CHAPTER 24. You don't hate it?
Ken gritted his teeth. The pain was already unbearable.
"Sir, I know that the words I said earlier offended you, but you're not vindictive, are you?"
"Who said that? I'm even very vindictive!"
Mark chuckled. Then he held a glass of red wine, took a sip, and said "I heard that you still think about my wife a lot."
"Your wife?" exclaimed Ken.
"Paula."
Ken looked terrified and couldn't move.
Paula was so wrinkled and thin. Besides, she was just a farmer! How can I marry someone with such an identity?
He had even become a woman for such a person. Subconsciously, Ken had a crush on the man whose eyes were covered in silk. "You..."
"According to ancient times, I should call you my cousin." A cold smile appeared on Mark's face. "But I don't want to!"
Ken, who was suffering from the cold, immediately shook his head. "There's no need. I can't match you as my brother-in-law."
"You're too great for me to call you brother-in-law!"
The man held a glass of red wine, took a sip, and said "Tell me. What have you done to Paula?"
Ken was stunned. Subconsciously, he glanced at Paula, who was standing at the side, and began to say, "I..."
Standing in place, Paula clasped her hands together roughly. "I... I,"
"Enough!"
Before Ken could continue speaking, Paula cut him off harshly.
She turned around and looked at Mark. "What exactly are you trying to do?"
It seemed like she was seeking "justice" for her cousin. She even asked Ken to explain directly how he harassed him back then.
"It seems like that incident hurt you a lot."
Mark yawned and waved his hand at Neo. "No need to continue now."
Neo nodded. Then he pulled the iron chain and dragged Ken to the other side of the roof.
It was then that Paula realized she wasn't safe at the other end of the roof.
Neo had dragged Ken to this place without any security measures.
"Knowing Neo's temperament, he'll kick him out of the building any minute now," Mark commented.
Mark continued to act as if nothing had happened as he raised his red wine glass and took a sip. "If they harass you in the future, you must tell me."
Paula only felt her blood run cold.
She glanced at Mark before looking at Neo, who was dragging Ken to the end of the roof. Seeing that, Paula shouted, "I never wanted Ken to die!"
Having said that, she ran towards Neo with big steps and didn't care at all. She pulled the iron chain in Neo's hand in the opposite direction and protested while shouting.
"You have no right to decide someone's life and death! This place is over thirty floors high. No one can survive if they fall from such a high place!"
Sitting in a wheelchair, the man's voice was still light. "Don't you hate it?"
Earlier, at the back door of the campus, her hatred for Ken was evident.
He once said that he would never let her suffer injustice again, by which he meant that he would not let Paula suffer even a single mistake.
"I hate him, but that doesn't mean I want him dead!"
Paula pursed her lips and turned to face the man behind her. "He is my aunt's son, no matter what. Even though I hate him, I won't let him die!"
Ken, seeing Paula asking for her life, began to speak in her defense. "I'll definitely be on my best behavior from now on," he pleaded.
Mark frowned slightly. He lowered his wine glass and turned to Neo, slightly annoyed. "Neo, put it down."
Having said that, he waved his hand towards Robert. Robert immediately stepped forward to push him away, walking with him.
When the door closed, only Paula, Neo, and Ken were left on the roof.
Neo looked disappointed. He then left the iron chain used to bind Ken. Claiming it was boring, he quickly left.
Then Ken crawled frantically to the center of the roof before looking at Paula, who looked dazed to the side. "Why are you still standing there? Come and help me untie myself!"
As Mark left, his tone instantly changed to that of the person who had abused Paula in the past.
Paula still couldn't overcome the shock and fear that someone would be killed. When Ken shouted at her, only then did she reach out to obediently untie her bonds.
Unexpectedly, the moment the chains were released, Ken spun around and threw Paula to the ground, strangling her neck. He shouted loudly.
"Look what you've done! Evil woman! Did you really find someone to deal with me?"
How could Paula have foreseen that? The person she saved at all costs, offending Mark. Turned out to have turned around and pinned her to the ground.
She was being strangled heavily. She wanted to fight, but she couldn't force herself, no matter what.
Ken sounded angrier the more he spoke, so she squeezed harder.
He couldn't even scream for help.
Finally, she began to see blurry.
She could only think that if she died like this, would she be considered to have been indirectly harmed and killed by Mark? Or did he himself cause it with his actions?
Originally, she wanted to let Ken go just because they were brothers. But, unexpectedly, it turned out like the fable of the farmer and the viper.
Just when he thought he was going to die, a dark blue arrow cruelly pierced Ken's hand.
Within seconds, a whip struck Ken several times until he fell to the ground, wailing.
Breaking free from Ken's control, Paula rolled over and grabbed her throat, coughing incessantly.
Her throat felt like it was being squeezed and crushed by something.
"Are you alright?"
After a while, a large, thin hand stretched out towards her, appearing in front of her. She was slightly confused and raised her head.
The light of the setting sun came into view from the left side, coloring half of his face gold.
At that moment, Mark's face, which was covered in black silk, radiated a dazzling light.
Paula looked at him, and she forgot to cough. "Why did you come back?" asked Paula in a very hoarse voice.
Mark grabbed her arm and pulled her toward him. His cold aura enveloped her, making her feel a little dizzy.
"Of course I wouldn't leave you here alone."
Paula was stunned. "So, did you predict that he would do something to me?"
"Not really." The man glanced at Ken, who was tied up by Neo once again.
"Because you wanted to try it so badly, I left you to prove your decision. But in fact, your prophecy was wrong."
After saying that, they turned their heads to look at Neo, who kicked Ken hard again.
Lying on the ground, Ken wailed before passing out.
"Weak." Neo kicked Ken several times. Seeing that it didn't really move, he casually used his foot to test it.
"He has passed out."
Paula pursed her lips. She stared at her cousin, who was so evil. She thought, Did she really faint?
Still, she couldn't help but ask Mark. "What will happen to Ken now? Do you still want to kill him?"
"I won't go that far."
Reaching out his hand, he gently brushed her lips. "But since he dared to defy you, I will make him surrender completely from now on."
