CHAPTER 25. Who am I in your eyes?

Paula was still confused and did not understand the meaning behind Mark's words. "How are you going to get her to abandon the idea completely?" she asked.

Mark was amused by the question.

He rubbed his head and said it in a mocking tone. "An innocent little pigeon."

After speaking, he supported Paula on his lap with one hand while pushing the wheel of her wheelchair with the other, and he left.

Paula felt too embarrassed in that position, and she struggled to break free.

He touched her flushed cheeks. "Let me push your wheelchair."

The man sitting in the wheelchair said this with a casual smile. "You should get used to this kind of life. Your husband is disabled, so this is what intimacy looks like."

Perhaps feeling sleepy after eating was a common thing, so on the way to the Aliston Mansion, Paula leaned back on the leather seat of the car and fell asleep once again.

After a while, the ringtone of the phone woke her up. She sleepily picked up the phone.

"Hello..."

"Pau, this is Aunt Lucy."

Mayer's funny fake voice came from the other end of the line. "I'm at Lourith Hospital right now. Your first cousin got into a fight and was seriously injured. I don't have any money with me, can you...?"

"No," Paula cut in.

Then she exhaled deeply, and her voice became cold in an instant. "Aunty Licu, you should know that I'm still studying. I really don't have any money."

Lucy laughed on the other end of the line: "I know you have no money, but aren't you married now? The blind man in your house... No, no. Your husband..."

"The money is yours, not mine."

Paula was fully awakened by the woman's voice. She got up and realized that she was lying on the big bed in her bridal suite.

Could it be that she was sleeping in her room after falling asleep in the car?

"Paula?"

Lucy, who was on the other end of the line, stammered for a few moments before realizing that Paula wasn't answering. She shouted angrily,

"Paula, I rarely call you and I rarely beg you, and is this your attitude? Shouldn't we help each other as brothers? When you were in your hometown, we helped you, didn't we?"

Paula gripped her mobile phone tightly as her heart slowly cooled down.

It would still have been fine if Lucy hadn't mentioned the incident. After mentioning it, Paula didn't even feel sorry for her in the slightest.

When she was studying, she went to Funny's house to borrow Ken's textbooks because she wanted to save her uncle's money. In the end, she was humiliated by Lucy and even had to work in her fields for a week. Only then did Lucy agree to lend Ken her old books, which she no longer used.

He remembered clearly how Lucy had humiliated him back then. Now, Lucy was saying that relatives should help each other.

Stifling her anger, Paula quickly ended the call.

But how could Lucy just give up so easily? After a few phone calls, Paula couldn't sleep.

She just switched off her phone and went downstairs to warm up a glass of milk.

While heating the milk, she poured another glass, thinking Mark might still be awake.

Three minutes later, she put two glasses of milk on the tray and went upstairs. As she passed by the study room, she heard the conversation between Neo and Mark.

"Your skills have improved a lot, but your strength is not enough. Did you see how I did today?"

Neo's voice was still grim. "No, too fast."

"Of course you have to be fast. If others see you, how can you surprise them?"

"I'll get better."

Paula, holding the milk, was confused by the conversation.

She didn't know if Neo was here, so she only heated milk for herself and Mark.

While thinking about whether to heat another glass of milk, Robert's voice came from behind. "Mum."

His sudden voice startled Paula, and she almost spilled the milk.

Fortunately, she had experience working in a coffee shop, which prevented her from falling.

She came back to her senses. The study room door opened. Neo, who was in the room, looked at Paula carefully, asking, "Why are you here?"

Paula didn't know how to respond.

After a while, she said the half-truth. "I'm just here to offer you some milk."

She wasn't spying on them intentionally. In a sense, she didn't even understand a word of it.

"Bring it in immediately."

The man's indifferent voice could be heard from outside the room.

It was as if Paula had regained her freedom, and she quickly brought the milk into the room and placed the tray on the table. "I went downstairs to heat up the milk, and I thought you were still up, so..."

"Why did you get up?" The man sitting in the wheelchair had his back to her; he didn't seem interested in the reason why she had appeared.

Paula was stunned and coughed softly. "I just woke up suddenly."

"Your family called you, right?"

Ken had experienced such an incident, and based on how shameless his relatives were, it wasn't strange that they called him at that hour to ask for money.

Paula squeezed his hand silently and said nervously, "How did you know?"

"I haven't even told you if I received a call from my family."

"Not everyone is as stupid as you."

The man sighed and turned around.

Paula noticed that Mark had changed into loose, silky black clothes. It didn't look like pajamas. It was more like the martial arts uniform Charlotte had worn earlier.

Her face wrinkled slightly in surprise.

A blind person sitting in a wheelchair late at night, wearing a martial arts uniform

He could clearly feel her dumbfounded gaze, but Mark didn't plan to explain. "Do you agree to give them money?"

She moved her wheelchair and took a sip of her milk. "How much do they want?"

"No idea."

Paula pursed her lips. "I don't have any money to lend them, so I didn't ask how much they needed."

A faint smile appeared on Mark's lips. "But I have money."

"You have helped me pay for my mother's medical expenses, and I am very grateful."

Paula looked at him and said, Seriously." Actually, they treated me very badly. I don't want to be indebted to you just for helping them."

Mark's hand trembled slightly as he held his glass of milk. "Do you think you owe me a favor after I helped you?"

The petite woman, who was wearing her pajamas, nodded seriously. "I already owe you a lot of favors."

Mark looked up. Her deep eyes, looking at him through a piece of black silk.

"Who am I in your eyes?"

Paula pursed her lips and said, "You are my helper."

"Just a helper?"

"You are also my husband."

"Is there anything else?"

The woman moved her eyebrows to form a bridge and replied. "I don't remember."

She had known Mark for less than a month, and she was not very close to him. She couldn't remember what kind of relationship she had with him.

"Someone who will be with me for the rest of my life."

Mark, she interjected in a serious voice.
