CHAPTER 23. Dinner?

After a bit of joking around, they got into the car. Robert drove the car while Mark, Charlotte, and Paula were in the back.

They were so quiet that they could even hear each other's breathing.

Looking through the rear-view mirror at Neo, who was still standing at the back door of the university, Paula said, "Robert, is it okay to leave him alone there?"

Robert, driving calmly, replied. "It's fine. Neo has his own transportation. There's no reason to worry."

"Good." Paula nodded. Then she turned to look at Mark, who was leaning on the leather chair to her left.

She couldn't tell if he was asleep or not. Then she stepped back again to look at Charlotte, who was on her right and silent as a mouse.

After blinking her eyes and looking at Paula, Charlotte took a piece of paper and a pen from her bag. Then she scribbled something on the paper quickly before handing it to Paula.

Frowning, she took it and read it. Charlotte had written something on the paper in illegible handwriting: "Didn't you say your husband is only blind? He can't speak either."

Paula shuddered slightly. Involuntarily, she turned her head to look at Mark, who was sitting beside her.

She took a deep breath before picking up her pen and writing a reply to Charlotte. "Of course not stupid! She can talk!"

"Then why didn't she say anything?"

Paula looked at the words Charlotte had written on the paper and frowned again.

She thought. Why didn't her husband say anything?

Ever since Neo took him to the back door, Mark had said nothing.

She bit her lip and forced herself to think about it. After that, she sighed and wrote. "He's probably angry."

"Why would he be angry?"

"He probably thinks you have married as a burden."

When Mark married her, he didn't think Paula's family would become so complicated.

Not only did she have the type of aunt who asked her uncle for money as financial help, but she also had a shameless cousin like Ken.

"About expenses?"

Charlotte was very surprised by the words Paula used.

"Rich people don't like troublesome people. My relatives are very troublesome."

Paula let out a long breath. She suddenly felt a little uneasy.

After a while, she wrote down on paper the worst thought she had at that moment. "He might be planning to divorce me."

Women's imaginations are endless.

The man, whose eyes were covered by a piece of black silk, was leaning back in a chair. He shook his head slightly, revealing a small smile.

Soon the car came to an intersection near Charlotte's house.

"I'll get off first," Charlotte said.

Charlotte gently patted Paula's shoulder and advised, "Don't imagine the worst."

After Charlotte left, Paula leaned back on the seat alone and looked at the scenery through the window.

Don't imagine the worst of this incident, she thought. It's not that she imagined the worst, but the incident was really bad.

"Is that how your cousin has treated you all this time?"

While she was still in a daze, she heard a deep but soft male voice.

When she turned around, she saw Mark still in the same position and leaning back, with a tone of wanting to say something.

She pursed her lips. "I was thinking about what to eat for dinner."

A cold smile appeared on Mark's face. "Have you decided?"

She was nervous and wanted to avoid talking to him. "No, not yet."

"Then, let's go eat. It just so happens that today I want to change my diet," Mark replied.

"Let's go to Apex Greenery." Mark said to Robert.

"Are you sure?" asked Robert, somewhat confused.

"Yes. Ask Neo to organize it."

"Alright!"

The conversation between the master and the driver made Paula very confused. It was clear that they were going to dinner. But why did they make it sound like they were meeting someone else?

She even asked Neo to make the preparations.

After half an hour, when they arrived at Apex Greenery, only she knew the reason why Robert had reacted like that earlier.

The so-called Apex Greenery was not the name of a restaurant; it was the rooftop of a hotel.

There were more than thirty floors in the hotel, and it was neither tall nor short. It was almost perfect for enjoying the night view of Lourith City.

The rooftop security measures were great, and the rooftop was beautifully decorated. However, there was only one table there.

Robert pushed Mark to the table and sat opposite him. Paula also sat opposite him.

The waiter approached them, asking "Mr. Aliston, same dish?"

"As usual."

The waiter nodded and left.

Soon, all kinds of delicacies that Paula had never seen were served on the table.

She looked curiously at the food. Observing it,

Mark said lightly, "Let's eat."

Paula nodded. Then she picked up the chopsticks to start eating.

She hadn't eaten lunch because of the incident at her grandmother's house that morning, and now she was starving after a long time.

When she was almost done eating, she thought of something. Then she looked at Mark and said, "Where's Neo?"

Didn't he ask Neo to organize it? he thought.

"Why is Neo nowhere to be seen?" he kept wondering.

Standing on one side of the table, Robert glanced at the time. 'He's late. It'll probably be here in a minute."

Paula answered lightly, and she didn't think much afterwards either. Then she bowed her head to continue eating.

She thought Neo would be here soon. But, unexpectedly, he did not come alone.

The young man in the white tracksuit walked slowly up the stairs, dragging a long iron chain in his hand.

Another man's hands were tied tightly to the other side of the chain.

The man behind Neo was covered in blood and could barely stand. His trousers were torn, and even his skin and flesh were visibly torn.

In shock, Paula dropped her chopsticks to the floor. The scene in front of her shocked her so much that she was speechless.

The man in front of her, graceful and agile, picked up another set of chopsticks and placed them in her hand.

"Are you satisfied?" asked Mark.

Stunned, Paula picked up her chopsticks. She had no way to look away from the man behind Neo.

"There's a lot of traffic." Neo pulled the chain hard, and the man behind him fell forward. "Noisy!"

Only then did Paula clearly see the face of the man who was dragged by Neo.

She felt like she was struck by lightning.

"Ken?!"

Ken looked up. With a face dirty from his wounds. He looked at Paula, and with his hoarse voice, he could barely say, "I know I was wrong. From now on, I will definitely not bother you."

"I'm begging you. Please let me go."

Paula gritted her teeth. For a moment, she didn't know if she should beg for mercy on Ken's behalf.

On the one hand, she hated Ken with a passion and was disappointed with all the things he had done to her over the years. But on the other hand, he was the nephew of his mother and uncle. Could it be that he didn't want to save her?

"You shouldn't have begged him," Mark interrupted.

The wheelchair-bound man stretched out his large, thin hands to hold his chopsticks. Slowly, he ate the celery with the lily bulbs in front of him.

"I sent someone to teach you a lesson, and I also asked them to bring you here."

"He can't control my mind, let alone decide your fate. So don't beg him!"
