Her breath caught in her throat. Her hand pressed the button on the elevator until it sped away. Her fingers kept tapping on her bag. She was impatient and worried that something would happen to Kenward.
She didn't know exactly what feelings were lodged in her heart. But she knew for sure that she was missing him right now. Maybe it was too rash for her to want to escape Kenward's grasp, but she didn't want to lose him forever. The frightening dream felt so real that she couldn't help but be anxious.
Callista rushed out of the elevator and ran as fast as she could. Of course, her running was not as fast as normal people. Her legs were still not used to it and it was painful if she pushed herself too hard to move fast.
The maids who were there were stunned by the scene. Their missus was running without any tools? With her own two feet? Was this a miracle that came out of nowhere?
Ignoring the shouts of her maids offering her breakfast, Callista got into the car that was always stationed in front of the main door. Callista frowned in surprise that the driver had changed. Well, never mind that.
"Hurry up, sir!"
There was no way to explain how important Kenward was in her life. So important that hearing of his death would bring disaster upon her. That man occupied a separate room in her heart. Although he did not fully control her heart, it was Kenward's patent.
It was the circumstances that were wrong from the start. She didn't know why Kenward, who only tortured people who annoyed or betrayed him, would suddenly kidnap her who was the daughter of a conglomerate. It couldn't have been for money as the man had tons of personal assets.
Callista shrugged her shoulders. The most important point was that their first meeting was very bad. If only she had met Kenward under good circumstances, they could have become lovers without any tears to shed.
Everyone has a past that sometimes still ensnares that person into a downward spiral or their mental health becomes compromised. And it seems like Kenward is experiencing the second point. The proof is that the man can stop torturing her and promises not to hurt her. He could stop as long as there was a strong will.
Callista nodded her head. Just like anyone who had trauma in their past. Kenward must have had a very bad past to make him like this. The man looked lonely, but he tried to cover that up with his psychopathic mask.
Why? Why was she so sure of her assumptions that were not necessarily true? Why was she taking such a heavy step by being by Kenward's side?
She knew it all too well. The unpleasant feeling that always came when she wanted to rest her body. The trauma completely disrupted her daily life to the point that she had repeatedly thought of suicide.
"Please hurry up, sir."
The tiny hands squeezed the sweater she was wearing tightly. She bit her lower lip to cover up the worry that shook her heart so much. Hopefully, she would not be too late. She didn't want anything to happen to that man.
What should have been a slow trip became a short one.
"Go back to the mansion without coming here again. I'll take a taxi home."
Of course, she did not know when she would return. She was not sure Kenward would accept her wishy-washy presence again.
Callista shook her head. She patted her cheeks with her hands. "Wake up, Illis, this is no time for negative thinking."
Callista opened the door of the car beside her. As she was about to step onto the road, Callista immediately remembered Kenward's message not to use this pair of tools every day. Her gaze shifted to the pair of crutches that were intentionally kept in her car as backup crutches.
Her attention turned to her pair of legs. "Kenward wouldn't like it if he saw me still using the tools he gave me until now."
Her slender hand moved to remove Kenward's tool from her leg. She reached out to grab the walking stick and lowered it slowly. It was true, her legs felt a little harder than usual.
The sound of the tip of her crutch colliding with the marble filled the room. Callista frowned in surprise when she realized that none of the maids and other staff were hanging around. Shouldn't they be preparing breakfast right now?
Realizing the irregularity, Callista placed Kenward's gift on the sofa and quickly resumed her walk.
"Kenward, are you on the ground floor?" Callista said with a little shout. And her shouting was still fruitless.
In search of Kenward's whereabouts in the first place she believed, Callista then entered and let her body be carried by the elevator. She soon resumed her delayed journey when the elevator doors opened.
One of Callista's eyebrows was drawn upwards. The room was still the same as she had left it. And of course, no one was there. The room that was illuminated by the sun every morning now looked very gloomy.
"Then where is Kenward? Is he outside the mansion?" Callista wondered as she walked down the hallway. In the one-room hallway, there was not a single person in sight. Where exactly did they all go?
Callista snapped her fingers in the air. "Maybe Kenward is in the kitchen," Callista muttered softly.
Since he hadn't hired anyone today, it was inevitable that he would go to the kitchen and quickly prepare his breakfast.
Callista nodded slowly. Well, nothing is impossible in this world.
Back inside the box, Callista became aware of something. She realized that her face was very pale. It was visible from the elevator's reflection.
"Kenward? Kenward?" Callista shouted once again. But in every hallway, she passed through to get to the kitchen, she never found Kenward's whereabouts.
Her footsteps stopped. Callista tipped her head to the side in case there was a possibility that Kenward was sitting on the floor. However, there was no one there.
Callista let out a long sigh. Why was Kenward, who had such a big body, so hard to find?
Not getting what she wanted in the second place she went to, Callista then turned her body around. Unintentionally, her eyes caught the presence of someone who was lying down on a chair around the pool.
The man's peaceful face was visible even from behind the glass. Callista unconsciously published a smile. Thee. Her worries for Kenward today were too much.
She took a step towards where Kenward was. One of her hands settled on the handle and immediately opened the door. She carried her feet towards Kenward's place which turned out to be quite far from what he thought.
Her smile faded. Her footsteps stopped when a woman in a very sexy bikini, put the drink she was carrying on the table and immediately wrapped her arms around Kenward.
The woman smiled slyly at Callista who was frozen in place because of her actions.
"Who is that woman?"
