One of its eyebrows was raised upwards. The pupils moved to follow the owner's gaze. Starting from the bottom of the feet to the top of the head of the girl in front of him.
Was that the girl that this man who was going to be his was referring to? Indeed, she had a beautiful face, but she was deformed. That girl was not fit to stand beside this gallant man.
Her jaw hardened. The strong scent of alcohol invaded her sense of smell even though she was not very close to Kenward. Was this the meaning of her dream? Kenward would be threatened just because of this woman who flaunted her body.
Callista was speechless at the thought. Kenward was fine at the moment, but she was not. The anger in her chest burned like a fire that was difficult to extinguish.
"Stay away from her!"
Kenward suddenly sat up. The eyelids that were previously tightly closed were now wide open. Kenward who did so abruptly, made dizziness happily invade his head.
The woman frowned at the response of the man whose name she still didn't even know. She had painstakingly followed that man all the way here. She couldn't just leave like that. She had already fallen in love at first sight with that man.
The woman in the bikini walked up to Callista quickly. "You should have told yourself that. Stay away from this man, defective girl!" With a push that she gave with all her might, she managed to shake Callista's balance.
Splash!
Kenward, who heard the noise, immediately opened his eyes wide even though his head kept buzzing. He was shocked to see Callista being dropped into the pool by the unknown woman.
Putting his anger aside, Kenward threw himself into the water. The woman panicked because of Kenward's reckless action. Kenward was still not fully released from the effects of drinking large amounts of alcohol.
A few seconds later, Kenward with Callista in his arms, appeared on the surface of the water. Kenward hurriedly brought himself and Callista to the edge of the pool and immediately climbed to the top.
"Illis, wake up, Illis?" called Kenward as he lightly patted Callista's cheek. But the girl he called did not give any response.
Kenward hesitantly placed his palm on Callista's chest.
"Forgive me for being presumptuous, Illis. But this is for your sake," he said silently.
Kenward pressed Callista's chest repeatedly. Not with full force because he was afraid he would hurt his girl if he did that.
"Get up quickly!" said Kenward who continued to drip water from the ends of his hair.
Callista spewed water profusely. Kenward gently stroked Callista's back. The girl was coughing as a side effect.
"Thank goodness you opened your eyes again, Illis." Kenward took Callista into his arms. His heart was beating as fast as a broken alarm clock. But all his worries disappeared as soon as he saw Callista open her pair of delicate eyelids again.
"Thank you for coming back to me."
Callista smiled happily at Kenward's gratitude for her presence. That was enough for her. Now she knew that Kenward was serious about her. He was willing to wait for her uncertain arrival.
Callista turned to look at the strange woman. She would have to ask Kenward about her. Then everything turned dark. The pain and dizziness that hit her head disappeared.
The look of concern was printed on his face. The cold body was unconscious, leaning on his chest. Not wanting Callista to suffer, Kenward hurriedly got up. He carried Callista bridal style. With quick and wide footsteps, Kenward walked out of the pool area. Passing right by the unknown woman.
As soon as Kenward completely disappeared from her sight, the woman with brown hair stomped her foot. She felt very annoyed with the handicapped girl.
"What an ignorant woman. Pretending to faint to get his sympathy."
Her hand moved to brush her hair roughly. "Huh, even though I want that guy."
Kenward, who was so worried, hurriedly ran into his room on the ground floor. It was He couldn't useom upstairs the because it was so messy thanks to him.
Kenward gently laid Callista down on the bed. Panic came over him. He turned around and looked around. For some reason, his mind, which he always relied on in the business world, was now working slowly. Was it because of his anxiety?
Kenward walked back and forth by Callista's bedside. After figuring out what he should be doing right now, the man hurriedly walked towards the key telephone on the table. His hand reached out to put the thing to his ear, but just as his other hand was about to type in a number, his movement stopped.
Kenward chuckled in annoyance. He didn't remember the numbers of his doctors. But a second later, his fingers resumed their role. If he couldn't contact his main personal physician, then he could contact a doctor he knew. The doctor he knew would not refuse.
***
Fifteen minutes passed very slowly for the agitated Kenward. He repeatedly blew on Callista's hand to channel the heat out of him. Callista's body did not warm up. He who had never taken care of someone who was sick, could only wait next to Callista. He was used to letting his body ache as a child because over time the pain would disappear. Of course, Kenward could not equate himself with Callista. His girl was fragile and would break into pieces if he touched her just a little wrong.
The sound of the door creaking was heard, taking all of Kenward's attention. The person he had been waiting for had now arrived. Kenward scrambled to his feet. He needed to make room for his friend to check on Callista.
Kevin sighed at the sight of a worried Kenward. His fingers reached out to check Callista's breathing.
Bugh!
Spontaneously one hand gently stroked the back of her head which was throbbing. She turned her head and shot him a glare.
"What are you doing, Kenward? I'm checking on your lover."
Hearing the word 'lover' comes from someone else's lips made Kenward freeze for a moment. He shook his head to shake off his reverie. He turned to stare at Kevin who he wanted to split right now.
"You took so long just to come here. Did you forget that you're also one of my doctors? The income I give you is four times more than the specialists you employ at the hospital, don't you remember that?"
Kevin was shocked to hear Kenward say something at length for the first time with an intonation other than intimidating, flat, and snapping. Kevin resumed his pending work. Love can indeed change a person's attitude.
"The trip here took a lot of time because of traffic. Are you satisfied?" Kevin refocused on his patient.
"Stop nagging me. I'm going to check on my patient."
Kenward wanted to boil the man in front of him if only he wasn't his friend. Exactly how could he be friends with a man like this? He was so materialistic that he could do three jobs at once: hospital owner, specialist, and Kenward's physician.
Just a few seconds later, Kevin had removed the object that had been lodged in his ear. He turned around to face the guardian directly.
"You're not only torturing her physically but also torturing her mentally."
Kenward paused. "You're not going to make up a diagnosis like a few weeks ago, are you?"
The seriousness on Kevin's face instantly faded at that. It was already in the past, a dark past for him. He was misdiagnosed just because of a small factor that he forgot. Of course, that mistake hurt his pride as a doctor.
"Why did I pick up this child in the first place?" Kevin grumbled softly. It was so quiet that Kenward couldn't hear it.
"I won't do it again. Once is enough, no second time." Kevin stopped what he was saying as Kenward flashed that dismissive smile.
"Do you still want to hear about your girlfriend or not?"
Suddenly Kenward silenced his lips. He put his flat face back on. "Say it!"
"She didn't faint from drowning in the pool. She fainted because her body was exhausted. She was physically and mentally exhausted and the exhaustion attacked her weak body simultaneously."
"Then? The cure?"
Kevin shook his head. "There is no cure. Your beloved just needs to fulfill the nutrients her body needs and not think too much. She needs to keep feeling happy to heal her mental exhaustion right now."
Kenward's gaze did not move from Callista. It turned out that Callista had fainted because of him. He had made his girl this way.
Kevin caught the regret on Kenward's face. His best friend was slowly changing for the better just because of a girl. Who would have thought this would happen? He had repeatedly worried about the condition of his friend with personality disorder. However, now it seemed like it was time to stop worrying.
"I will prescribe vitamins to quickly restore your girlfriend's energy. You should buy them at the nearest pharmacy." Kevin's fingers quickly moved over the sheet of paper. He placed the thin sheet on the table.
"You have to know when to step forward and when to step back. You're not going to make this girl leave you, are you?"
One word that instantly provoked Kenward's cruel side to wake up. A word that came from the root word of stay. He hated the fact that Callista had almost left him. The fact that Callista looked at him sharply and angrily.
Kevin was a little surprised when Kenward suddenly tugged on his shirt collar. His breath caught as Kenward moved to choke his neck with all his might. Kevin felt his collarbone would shift if it was any more than this.
His hands threw repeated powerless punches at Kenward's forearms. The distance between their bodies' strength was huge because Kevin had been sickly since childhood.
Instead of letting go, Kenward lifted Kevin so high that the man's feet were no longer on the ground.
"You've awakened the tiger that was sound asleep."
Kenward threw Kevin so that his body slammed into the wall. Kevin slumped to the ground as he sucked in greedy gulps of air. He was made to cough by the man who was his friend.
Kevin got back to his feet. It was Kenward's ruthless side that he had always feared and respected. Of course, he couldn't fight against such a powerful force. Kenward was an unequal opponent for him. Therefore, he had to rectify the current situation.
Kevin corrected his slightly messy tie. "The point is, your girlfriend is fine. There's nothing to worry about. She just needs some time to rest."
Kevin looked from bottom to top. It was Kenward who saved his girlfriend by looking at his clothes that were still not completely dry. It seemed natural for them to be dating like everyone else. But that was certainly an exception for Kenward.
"I'll be back at the hospital soon. Practice controlling your emotions so that your lover will continue to feel at home with you." Kevin resumed his delayed steps. Carrying himself out of the white room. Slowly his presence was obscured by the dashing door.
Kenward walked around, lying down beside Callista. Silently embracing Callista's body. He wanted to channel his warmth as well as fill an empty box called longing in his heart. As his embrace tightened, Kenward deliberately closed his eyes. There was no way he would be able to survive if he lost the little girl in his arms. He also couldn't lose the only medicine that could solve his insomnia.
