Chapter 9 NINE
Chapter 9 NINE
THIRD PERSON POV
Lily didn’t really see the need for them to meet at the rooftop, but judging from whatever text he got, it seemed like he didn’t have even a minute to spare to hear her question.
“Well, time to kill the day.” She said under her breath, and got on with her work.
Hours passed smoothly until it was during break, and Lily walked out of her office space and began to head towards the rooftop when Claire called her. Then she swiped the green button to the right.
“Hey bestie!” Claire said excitedly. “How’s your first day at work?”
“Well, the typical experience every newbie has, I guess.”
“Hmmm. Well, it’s definitely going to get hotter.”
“What do you mean by that?” Lily asked, wondering what Claire was referring to.
“I’ve heard a lot of things about the CEO. Although, he’s withdrawn, but I heard he’s one of the top billionaires and he’s so handsome. Just imagine you both get into a love situation and…”
“Claire, I’ve got to go.” Lily suddenly spoke as she opened the door to the rooftop and saw Zayne, leaning on the rails and staring at other buildings from afar.
He had removed his suit jacket, and was looking so cool in just his white shirt. He looked just like a model; one they would pay a huge money for. Lily shook her head to end any further thoughts. As soon as she got to him, he turned to look at her, and she gasped before she knew it. His handsomeness was breathtaking. She didn’t understand how it was just now that she was realizing it, but she made sure to keep herself composed.
“Are you okay?” Zayne asked, acting like he was a little concerned.
Whereas, he sort of figured the reason she gasped, but held himself back from smiling.
“Yeah… yeah, I’m fine.”
“Alright, so I’m here. You got 5 minutes.”
Lily frowned, wondering what he was feeling like, to throw that at her, all of a sudden.
“I didn’t beg you to come here, you know. You could have just said you’re too busy on your first day of work.” Lily said, feeling a little riled up.
Zayne on the other hand took in a deep breath and let it out silently.
“And who does this girl think she is?” He said in his thoughts, still she was just too intriguing to him for him to reveal who he truly is and end the fun.
“By the way, I wanted to ask if you’ve seen the CEO since your first few hours here or during the interview?”
Zayne smirked and folded his arms.
“And why do you care to know?”
“I mean… I should know the person I’ll be working closely with, and what he is like. I just need to be certain I would not regret taking up this position of working as a secretary.”
Zayne smirked slightly, and then patted her back. “You won’t. Five minutes is over.” He said, and left.
Lily stood there for a moment after Zayne walked away. She blinked twice, then shook her head in disbelief.
“What was that?” she muttered under her breath.
The man had shown up like he owned the place, spoke like he was doing her a huge favor, and then just left after declaring that her five minutes were over. The pride in his tone annoyed her.
“I didn’t even invite you here,” she mumbled again.
She exhaled slowly and leaned back against the metal railings of the rooftop. The afternoon breeze brushed softly against her face, calming her slightly. From the rooftop, the city looked beautiful. Tall buildings stretched far into the distance, cars moved like tiny dots on the roads below, and the sky was painted in a soft shade of blue.
For a moment, Lily forgot about the strange man and the confusing start to her day. Instead, she simply enjoyed the view. Still, a small part of her mind kept replaying his face.
“Tch! Why act like he is on a high horse?” she wondered.
He talked like someone important. Yet he worked here just like her. Lily shook her head again, pushing the thought away.
“Not my business,” she murmured.
After a few more minutes, she returned downstairs and continued her work.
The rest of the afternoon passed quietly. She sorted documents, responded to emails, and organized several schedules she found in the system. Being a secretary required attention to detail, and Lily made sure she did everything carefully.
Before she realized it, evening had arrived.
Employees began packing their bags and heading home while Lily looked at the clock and stretched her arms slightly.
“Finally,” she sighed softly.
She shut down her computer, placed a few documents neatly on the desk, and grabbed her bag. As she stepped into the elevator and reached the lobby, her phone vibrated. Then she glanced at the screen.
Her heart skipped.
It was a message from Kyrian.
She hesitated for a second before opening it.
“Come to Freedom Park this evening. I have something to tell you… something you might want to hear.”
Lily stared at the message, and her heart began beating faster.
“Something I might want to hear. What could that mean?”
Her mind instantly filled with possibilities.
Was he going to apologize? Was he going to explain everything that happened at the hospital?
A small, hopeful smile formed on her lips. Despite everything, her heart still responded to him.
Lily walked out of the company building and stopped near the entrance. The sky had begun turning orange as the sun slowly set. She looked around, but there were no cabs in sight.
A few employees got into their cars and drove away while others walked towards the bus stop down the street.
Lily sighed.
“Gosh. I guess I’ll have to walk a bit,” she murmured.
She had barely taken a few steps when a sleek black car slowly pulled up in front of her, and the window rolled down smoothly.
