Chapter 146: A New Perspective

Chapter 146: A New Perspective
Sophia’s POV

There was something infuriatingly perfect about watching Travis get ready in the morning.

The way he rolled up the sleeves of his crisp white dress shirt, the way he adjusted his watch with that effortless confidence, the way he ran a hand through his already-perfectly-messy hair, making it worse—

It was unfair.

And fuck—

It made it very hard to focus on getting myself ready.

"Sweetheart, you keep staring at me like that, and you’re never making it to work," he smirked, glancing at me from the mirror.

"Oh, shut up," I muttered, shoving my earrings in and pretending like I wasn’t completely mesmerized by him.

"Not my fault you’re obsessed with me."

"Travis."

"Sophia."

I rolled my eyes, grabbing my heels and avoiding the way he was looking at me—like he was one second away from ditching whatever plans he had and pinning me against the nearest wall.

"Aren’t you supposed to have things to do today?" I asked, sliding into my heels.

"I do."

"And yet, you’re still here."

"Told you, sweetheart. I’m obsessed with you."

And fuck—

He wasn’t even joking.

By the time I made it to the office, Leah was already waiting with her usual coffee and judgment.

"I don’t know why you even bother coming in anymore," she said casually, taking a sip of her latte.

I frowned, hanging my bag on the chair. "Excuse me?"

"Soph, you’ve been here for two hours a day, max, for weeks," she pointed out. "And everything runs perfectly fine even when you’re not here. Maybe it’s time you… you know, live a little?"

I stared at her. "I do live."

She gave me a look. "Do you?"

"Yes?"

"Really?"

"Leah—"

"All I’m saying is," she sighed, "you spent years building this company, and you did an amazing job. But now? Maybe it’s time you trust that it’s in good hands. Maybe it’s time you let yourself breathe. Maybe it’s time you—" She paused.

And then, with a devious little smirk—

"Maybe it’s time you start planning that wedding."

I nearly choked on my coffee. "What?"

"Oh, please," she rolled her eyes. "You’re engaged to Travis fucking Cole. You don’t think that man already has plans?"

I blinked, my brain still trying to process the shift in conversation. "I—"

"You love him," she said simply. "And if I know you—if I know him—you want this. So what’s stopping you?"

And fuck—

I didn’t have an answer.

The rest of the day was a blur.

I barely got any actual work done.

Because fuck—

Leah had planted a thought in my head that wouldn’t go away.

Maybe she was right.

Maybe I had spent so long running myself into the ground that I forgot how to just… live.

Maybe I needed to stop seeing the office as my entire world.

Maybe I needed to start letting myself have a life outside of it.

And when the afternoon finally rolled around—

Travis was waiting for me.

He was leaning against his car, his arms crossed, his sunglasses in place, looking infuriatingly attractive as he watched me step out of the building.

And fuck—

It didn’t matter that we had woken up together, had breakfast together, kissed each other goodbye just hours ago—

Because seeing him standing there, waiting for me like he had nowhere else he’d rather be?

It did something to me.

Something dangerous.

Something undeniable.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, raising a brow as I approached him.

"Waiting for my fiancée," he smirked.

I ignored the way my stomach flipped at that word.

"And where exactly are we going?"

He opened the passenger door, gesturing for me to get in. "You’ll see."

"Travis—"

"Sweetheart, do I ever disappoint?"

I huffed out a sigh, sliding into the car. "You’re impossible."

"And yet, you love me anyway."

And fuck—

I really, really did.
