Chapter 67
ARCHER
I used the lavender that I packed to make the little dove fall asleep. She needs to rest; her power is more potent than before.
I can feel it run through her, and it is stronger when she's restless. I wonder what will happen when she gets angry.
“I don’t want to be around when she is,” says Drack with a smirk. “Both little one and little wolf are flat out.”
I stare into the distance but come back when Luke speaks.
“You had to use that,” says Luke quietly as he looks at the little sleeping dove in the mirror.
I looked at him with a smile, “She needs to rest; her mind is everywhere,” I said to him.
“I could feel it,” he says, looking back to the road and staring ahead.
“I know,” I said. “We need to find someone who will help her control the power, or Aria will sense her magic and come for her before we can surprise her.”
Luke stays quiet, but after a few moments, “I know of three sisters, witches,” he says, “I ask if they could be willing to help us, but I will have to tell them who she is and you are.”
I could feel Drack move in my head, but I frowned. “Why would they want to know who I am?” I ask him.
Luke sighs, “The three sisters have had people declaring they are something but never were; they like to see who they are dealing with, including their shifters.”
“I don’t like the sound of that,” says Drack. I couldn't agree more with him.
“Well, I have some reservations about them knowing what I am. If word gets out that a dragon is here, Aria will have a field day, and Mila,” I said but sighed, “We will have to figure it out later. We need to find somewhere so we can all put our heads down and make sure we can disguise both Mila and me.”
Luke looks over at me with a smirk. “You mean you will change your look,” he says, “You haven’t changed since I've known you.”
I look straight ahead and sigh, “I guess I have to. Also, we need to get Mila a disguise. Maybe dye her hair or something.”
I turned around and looked at Luke; he smiled. “I think she will make one hell of a red-haired or a gorgeous blonde; what do you think?” He says.
I grinned. “I think her brown hair is sweet, but I think you are right; her mate would be jealous,” I say as I remember what her mate was like when he saw what little dove and I were like together.
I love her as my own child, and there is nothing romantic between us. I feel for her, and it's a parent thing. She has half of our heart, and she means more to us than anything.
I stare ahead, letting Luke get back to his singing.
My mind wonders about Lucas; everything he told me makes me worry about him. I fear that I won’t be able to get my brother back. If Aria is draining Fargo’s blood, he will be too far gone by the time we get to him and feral.
Anna will be devastated, but so will I, as we are one close family. I just need to find him soon, or there will be a big dragon battle to see who wins between Fargo and Drack; I know who I have my money on.
“We are here,” says Luke, pulling me back from my thoughts. I stare back at the tall, dark building in front of me.
“This place used to be an old mining building,” he says as he looks at it, “It's abandoned. Also, I can drive further up the road to the nearest store for some food and essentials for everyone, including hair dye.”
I smile and look at him.
“You grab the bags; I will grab little dove,” I said.
He nods. He climbs out of the car and heads towards the side entrance.
I climbed out and opened the little dove's door; she looked so peaceful sleeping. I pick her up and place my hand around her waist and under her legs. I left her up as Luke came back outside. He grabs the last of the bags, and I follow him inside.
Luke guides me through a narrow corridor through the building, and he opens the first door he sees.
As I look inside, the room is pitch black and only has a worn mattress on the floor. I place my little sleeping dove down, and Luke places a blanket over her.
I sit next to her and lean back against the wall, and Luke sits next to me.
“I’m waiting for a text from a friend; he knows of Aria's dealings. She has been very busy,” Luke says as he looks at me.
I look at him, but he groans. “Aria has been moving around by the look of it, she has many places she goes, but if we can find a few of them, maybe we can find at least the children,” he says.
“We see what your friend comes back with,” I say; I start to feel tired once again.
I can feel my eyes getting heavy, “I think you will have to get some food for us,” I say as my eyes close.
“Both of you sleep, I won’t be long, and Archer,” he says. I open one of my eyes to look at him, and he is now standing up.
“I believe in everything about the legend of her,” he says as he looks towards the little dove. “I would die for her, she is special and everything you have said about her, I think there may be some people who would follow her if they knew she was here.”
I smile, “I think you're right, but we are not here for followers, we are here to get the children and kill Aria, but we need more information about who she has used as her mates to breed with.”
He nods.
But his face becomes serious slightly. “What about her true mate? Do you think she has one?” He asks. “And if so, would he stand by and let her do all this?”
That’s a good point. Does she have a true mate?
I sigh, “I will try to contact Lucas again soon, but I'm having trouble connecting to him,” I say.
“You think Fargo has gone feral,” he asks, slightly concerned.
“I hope not, but I can’t be certain either,” I say.
Luke looks at me once more, but he speaks once again. “Archer, we will get through all this,” he says. “I will leave now; you need to sleep.”
I nod.
Luke leaves the room but closes the door behind him.
I turn to look at little dove once more. She has the blanket wrapped up high over her shoulders and silently snoring.
I leaned back on the wall, and I could hear Drack snore in my head. I place a block up and close my eyes.
I know we have to get through all this; I just hope we can destroy Aria and her plan.
My eyes get heavy, and I'm in complete darkness as my slumber takes me away.
