Chapter 151 Alpha's Wife Has Another Mate?
Kristen's POV
"Did you hear about the intruder last night?"
"Yes, he's a rogue from another pack.
"Some say he's got the face of a devil."
"No, he's way too good-looking. But his sister is a blind, scrawny little thing whose bone I can break into two. They arrived looking like beggars, with no car or anything. Alpha Calhoun took pity on them and let them in. I saw it with my very eyes." The first maid pauses from wiping dust off the staircase.
I came right on time to overhear their gossip.
I have been standing outside, listening to the maids gossip as they set to work this evening.
And then, I decide it's time I make my presence known.
"My Luna," they flinch upon seeing me, clearly not expecting my presence at such an hour.
"What's going on here?" Propping Aiden on my hip, I scan the faces of the maids.
"It's about the man from last night," the tall maid blurts out.
"A man?" My eyes lower into a squint as I pull Aiden's hand away from
tugging my hair.
"Yes, a Rogue," replies the second,
with a much more serious look on her
face.
And this is rather confusing to me because Calhoun never mentioned any rogue to me. He left and returned, only
to tell me it was a wild animal that broke in, and his men took it away.
"I overheard someone mention Calhoun helping someone. Is it this same rogue?" I question as I pop my head from one maid to the other.
And they both nod at once.
"Yes, my Luna. Alpha Calhoun accepted him and his sister into our pack. And offered them shelter."
"I see," Upon settling Aiden properly on my hip, I stare thoughtfully into the air, trying to put my thoughts together to align what happened right under my nose without my knowledge.
Why didn't Calhoun mention this rogue to me? What is he trying to hide?
Something doesn't seem right at all and it's very unsettling.
"Where did Calhoun give them shelter?
"I draw the attention of the maids
back to me.
"I think here for the meantime," the
first responds,
It seems like Calhoun is still contemplating what to do with them.
The gurgling sound coming from my son swiftly draw my attention to him. And it's not close to stopping.
Amusingly, he's enjoying it all. Giggling and rewarding me with a two- toothed grin.
"You just pooped, didn't you?" I tease,
poking the sides of his stomach. And Aiden throws his head backwards and lets out a harsh bark of laughter, and pooping at the same time.
He'll be eight months in two weeks
and it's just insane how big he's grown over the months. He's like the miniature version of Calhoun, bearing so much resemblance with his father
and it's annoying at times that he didn't take after me.
When Aiden gets done pooping in his
diapers, I cautiously hold him and take him out to clean him up.
And in the midst of it all, I figure he's run out of diapers.
"Shit," I curse inwardly as I leave him to soak in his bath basin.
A naked, clueless Aiden stares at me
with his blue eyes basking in curiosity. And I know I cannot leave him like this.
"Cynthia!" I yell the name of Aiden's favorite person, apart from me and his father.
And she comes rushing in like she's been waiting to be called by me.
"My Luna," the seventeen-year-old put her hand behind her as she holds
my gaze.
"Stay and watch over Aiden, I need to
get his pack of diapers," I instruct as I hurry up to pick my car keys. "But I could go for you, my Luna," the
girl offers quietly.
"No, there's this specific diaper for my son and there's a lot of replicas out there, you could get the fake one. So, I
need to go by myself." I tell her, which isn't even a lie.
"Sure," the girl leaves the door and
approaches Aiden, calling him pet
names.
And Aiden is already euphoric to see
her at his side. He grabs ahold of his
bath basin with his left, manages to rise to his feet, and beckons her with his right hand.
A small smile tilts at the corners of my mouth as I head out.
Fifteen minutes later, I pull up in front
of the nearest mall to get Aiden's diapers.
I am in a hurry as I hop out of the car,
but then my eyes capture a young man
sitting on the bare floor, playing a guitar, and people are hanging around him, putting some cash in the empty plastic coffee cup in front of him. And as if sensing being watched, he
shifts his head in my direction and captures my gaze. Time holds still, and my heart slams
against my ribcage when we lock eyes.
No!
This is not happening.
This isn't real!
How can I have another mate when I
am already mated to Calhoun, I am his wife and his Luna.
"Where are you going, Theodore? You need to round it up!" A middle-aged scrawny-looking man yells after him. Because he immediately abandons his guitar, jumps to his feet, and starts taking long, quick strides in my direction.
His long, wavy brown hair gets blown across his face by the harsh wind.
Theodore. His name is Theodore.
And he seems to know we're mated as
well because he's as surprised as I am. No. I can't stay here and stand this.
If the moon goddess is playing games
with me, then she has to stop this instant, or I'll lose all sanity. Turning around, I start sprinting in the other direction, but suddenly my arm gets caught by a large hand,
and
before I can grasp anything else, I am pinned to a wall.
"Don't run away please," his deep and distinct voice rings out.
"Let go," I voice out, trying to pull
away. But he's stronger because his grip on my arm is firm.
"Only if you promise not to run off, I
know you feel the mate bond as well." He says, as examines my face. "No," I lie, badly in need of getting
away from this man because it's frigging wrong.
"Don't be in denial, miss," Theodore
holds my arm up so I can stare directly into his gray eyes. It's stupid and frustrating at the same time because
I'm close enough to get lost in them. "Something isn't right somewhere," I rasp out, feeling a cold surge through
me.
"We're mates," Theodore lets his tongue touch his button lip. "Fucking stop," why isn't my frigging voice audible like I want?
"But it's the truth, now it's obvious
why my feet were directed to this place,
"Unlike me, Theodore seems calm and collected.
Oh, god, no.
I am not supposed to be attracted to
this man in front of me. His gray eyes are boring into my eyes, wordlessly giving out his sudden attraction for
me. And he's resilient in letting me go.
"Where have you been all my life?" He asks this incredulous question. And I want to think there's a witch somewhere, using dark magic to make
us fool ourselves.
I was on my way to get Aiden's diapers
and now I got this?
"Believe me when I say you're with the
wrong woman," I try to tell him in a calm manner.
"I know what I felt and I know you felt
it too. We were made mates for a
reason." Theodore looks way too
determined about this.
Dear me, he's not using the same
words Calhoun used on me the night
we first fucked in the Cabin.
Theodore loosens his grip from my
wrist and I take this opportunity to get
away from him.
I'm not running, no. Just walking really fast because I feel flushed, and
upset, and lastly, I need to hurry home
to Aiden.
"Don't walk away from me like that,"
He yells, walking even faster to catch
up with me.
"Just stay away, you hear me?" Because my heart is thudding in my
chest, my growl ends up sounding like
a frigging cat's whine.
"Why are you so upset that we're
mates? Is it because I look poor?" Theodore has sadness in his eyes as he lets out a small pout like a toddler. the least of the situation right now," I grit out, pulling some strands
"That's
of hair away from my face and pushing
them at the back of my ear. "You know we could get to know ourselves before anything," Theodore seizes my wrist once more. "I don't want to know you, and I...Ow!"
A sharp piercing cry erupts from my
mouth. Because in the process of
trying to wiggle free from his grip, I
stepped on the wrong path and twisted
my ankle.
And Theodore is quick to hook his
arms around my waist, so I won't fall
off.
Our gazes meet and lock.
And time holds still.
