Chapter 150 Strangers

Chapter 150 Strangers

Calhoun's POV
Seven months later.
"He's a rogue, got kicked out of his pack three months ago. Ever since, no one wants him in their pack because of his looks," Bruce makes this known to
me.
And true to Bruce's words, the young man's face is a bit too good-looking for my liking, and I feel a little bit threatened. He's shabbily dressed and his shoes are worn out and muddy, making his toes stick out of the holes. Beside him is an equally poorly dressed young girl, who's holding onto an aid stick for support.
It was past Midnight when an alarm was raised on my premises, and my men ran around, screaming that there was an intruder.
As the head of the house, I went out to see, only to find my men trampling on a young man, while the girl was held
aside.
The young man claimed he wasn't an intruder, and he was trying to get his starved sister some food.
"What's your name?" I ask, after
letting these thoughts slide.
"Theodore," he lowers his head to the
floor.
"Release him," I command the bodyguards authoritatively, and they quickly oblige and step backward.
Leaving my side, I walk until I am near him. While he maintains his standing position as I sniff on him.
Truly, he does have the rogue smell. Something which gives out that he told the truth earlier.
"Age?" I question Theodore when he rises to his feet.
"Twenty-seven, sir," he clasps his
trembling hands in front of him before
maintaining my gaze.
"And your sister?" I inquire.
"She's just fourteen," Theodore informs me.
"Is she blind?" My face squeezes into a slight frown because I am confused.
"Yes, she was born this way. They said it's a curse from birth," Theodore explains this to me, not even blinking or winking.
And I exchange a look with Bruce who seems as perplexed as I am.
"What exactly happened that you got kicked out?" I return my attention to the boy in front of me.
"Our late father was indebted to our
Alpha, and because he was unable to pay back before dying, our Alpha seized everything we had. Including our home, and then he kicked us out."
I pause as I observe the pitiful boy in front of me. He seems heavily built, but his eyes, they hold so much pain in them.
It makes me rather unsettled, as I didn't plan on pitying anyone until came here.
"What and what can you do?" I ask Theodore after a full minute of silence.
"Anything, sir. As long as you'll accept me into your pack, and provide food and shelter for my blind sister, then I am willing to serve you until my days
are over.
"A minute," I excuse myself just to mind-link with my beta.
'What do you think about him?' My eyes are connected to my Beta's.
'He seems to be honest, the signs of suffering are evident on his face. But as you know, no one is to be trusted
these days. Everyone is an enemy until they prove themselves wrong.' Bruce gives a little shrug.
'So you want me to accept him?' I blink.
'That's up to you, Calhoun,' The expression on Bruce's face is readless.
And I shift my gaze to the blind teenager who keeps swaying her head in different directions. Her eyes are lacking pupils, and she looks way too malnourished.
They came to me for help, I can't just
turn them away. Even though I don't feel settled around this Theodore guy. Why in the hell does he have such a
face? It's hard to turn him away and still hard not to feel threatened by his looks. Damnit.
"Our Luna doesn't have any bodyguard since Janette retired last month, after marrying her mate," Bruce points out with a thoughtful look on his face. He already putting an end to our mindlink because he wants everyone to hear him
out.
And this immediately irks me. What the fuck is he implying?
"You want me to make him Kristen's
bodyguard?" My voice is low with anger and jealousy.
"If you want. Theodore looks big
enough and powerful. He was able to
fight some of the guards and only got weak when they surrounded and attacked him," Bruce shrugs as if it's not a big deal.
And for a second, all I can think about
is pinning him against a nearby wall. What the fuck is he thinking? Asking
me to make this Theodore guy my wife's bodyguard? Over my dead fucking body.
"It's obvious Theodore has been
through a whole lot these last months, My beta continues talking, making my seeth in ten shades of red, "With his father gone and everything taken away from him. And his sister is blind
too. I'm sure Theodore will be devoted
to guarding our Luna,"
"Bruce?" I call quietly. "Yes?" Bruce casts me an innocent
look.
"Shut up," I growl, ignoring everyone
around.
"Yes, Alpha Calhoun. I won't say a
word until we're out of here!" Bruce
upon sensing my rising anger, moves backward.
"Alpha Calhoun?" Theodore attempts
to walk towards me, but the guards stop him, upon thinking he's out to attack me. Their paranoia towards him is still the same.
"Yes?" I raise a brow at him, after signaling the guards to let go of him.
"1
"Please don't turn me away, Theodore implores and bows his head, "No one wants to take me into their
pack. They fear I will wreak havoc. When it's just the wrong perception they have of me," the tremble in his voice gives out how broken he is.
There's a pause as I stare into the pleading gray eyes of Theodore. It's hard to say no to him.
And his sister starts sobbing as she
clutches her aid stick even tighter. This is way too much for me to take, as
I am starting to already feel bad for them.
"Just give me a benefit of doubt, Alpha Calhoun. If not for me but for my sister," Theodore implores, his voice suppressing his sister's sobs and
sniffles.
"Fine, you're in." I agree at last.
