Chapter 162

Serena’s POV.

As Graham's words washed over me, a warmth unlike any I had ever known spread through my veins, suffusing my entire being with a radiant glow. It was as though a veil had been lifted from my eyes, revealing the truth that had been obscured from me for so long. Graham didn't just want me – he needed me, he loved me with a depth and intensity that left me breathless.

Tears streamed down my cheeks unchecked as the weight of my realization bore down upon me, threatening to overwhelm me with its sheer magnitude. How could I have been so blind, so foolish, to doubt the depth of Graham's love for me? All this time, he had been by my side, silently sacrificing everything for the sake of our love.

Unable to contain the torrent of emotions coursing through me, I buried my face in Graham's chest, the sobs wracking my body as though they were tearing me apart from the inside out. And yet, even amidst the storm of my tears, I felt a sense of clarity, of peace, settling over me like a comforting blanket.

Graham tensed beneath my embrace, his concern palpable as he whispered my name, his voice laced with worry. "Serena, what's wrong? Please, talk to me."

Drawing back slightly, I gazed up at him through tear-blurred eyes, my heart overflowing with a love so profound it threatened to consume me whole. "I'm falling in love with you all over again, Graham," I confessed. "And this time, I know that you love me too."

A pained laugh escaped Graham's lips, mingling with the tears that stained his cheeks as he reached out to cup my face in his hands. "I'm sorry, Serena," he murmured. "I'm sorry for ever making you doubt that."

But before he could say another word, I silenced him with a kiss – a kiss born of love and gratitude, of forgiveness and redemption. In that moment, there was only us, lost in the sweet embrace of our love, unburdened by the weight of our past mistakes.

As our lips parted, I felt something pressing in my hands, against his backside, drawing my attention away from the dizzying whirlwind of emotions that threatened to consume me. Puzzled, I glanced down, my eyes widening.

"What's this?" I asked, my heart pounding in my chest.

As Graham's solemn expression met mine, a shiver of dread crept down my spine, mingling with the remnants of the overwhelming emotions that still coursed through me.

“I went inside Douglas’s room,” he said.

His words hung heavy in the air between us, casting a pall over the fragile bubble of joy that had enveloped us moments before.

"You went inside Douglas's room?" I whispered as the implications of his actions sank in.

Graham reached out to me, his touch gentle yet firm as he urged me to calm down, to listen to what he had to say. "Serena, please," he implored, his eyes pleading for understanding. "I found something in his room, something that might help us."

My fury gave way to a gnawing sense of unease as I watched him reach behind his back, retrieving a small, ancient relic from the depths of his shirt. My breath caught in my throat as he placed it gently in my hands, the weight of its age and significance sending a shiver down my spine.

I turned the artifact over in my hands, my fingers tracing the intricate carvings that adorned its surface, yet despite my efforts, I could glean little from its mysterious form. "What is this?"

Graham's gaze never wavered as he met my eyes. "I do," he replied, his voice steady despite the weight of the revelation he carried. "With the help of Neris's wisdom, I was able to decipher its meaning."

My heart pounded in my chest as I awaited his explanation, the anticipation building within me until it threatened to consume me whole. "What is it?" I asked again.

Graham took a deep breath, steeling himself for what he was about to reveal. "It's a key," he said softly. "A key to unlocking the power of Aerok, the dark god Douglas seeks to awaken."

As Graham confirmed my worst fears, a gasp escaped my lips, the weight of his revelation hitting me like a sledgehammer. Without Eliana's assistance, he had ventured into Douglas's lair and retrieved the artifact. It was a reckless move, one that could have catastrophic consequences.

A surge of anger coursed through me, fueled by the realization of the danger Graham had placed himself in. I couldn't fathom the sheer recklessness of his actions. In a heated outburst, I lashed out at him, my words sharp with frustration and fear.

"You foolish, reckless fool!" I seethed. "Douglas will undoubtedly track you down. He'll sense your presence and come for you, and then..."

My words trailed off, the horror of what could happen too painful to articulate. Graham's remorse was evident in his eyes, but there was no time for regrets. We needed to act swiftly to mitigate the damage.

Pushing aside my anger, I focused on the task at hand. We had to find Eliana, or Lucien—anyone who could keep Graham safe. With a sense of urgency gnawing at my insides, I issued instructions to Graham, directing him to hide in my room while I sought out help.

Before I could leave, Graham pulled me into a fierce embrace, his lips meeting mine in a desperate kiss. The love and fear that pulsed between us were palpable, driving home the gravity of our situation.

"Take care, Serena," he whispered against my lips.

With a heavy heart, I tore myself away from him, the weight of our predicament pressing down on me like a leaden blanket. But I couldn't afford to falter now. With determination burning in my veins, I set out to find help, knowing that I would stop at nothing to protect the man I loved.
