Chapter 55 - Fear, anger, and resentments
What the hell was this place? This was beyond creepy. My heart was one minute away from busting through my rib cage. This place was scary as it gets. And darker.
I looked up to see the moon but it was nowhere to be found. Strange. I remembered seeing the moonlight falling through the window back in dungeon where I was kept hostage. Hostage? I wonder what am I in this situation? I found myself out of breath as my mind started thinking of the worst scenarios.
Here, standing in this place, breathing with my nose was getting difficult with every breath. My throat was burning from the intense awful smell of dead and it was only getting stronger. It was suffocating me.
We both walked through the alley and soon find ourselves in front of a big rusty gate of the graveyard. Wait was she really serious about the witch’s graveyard? I gulped loudly readying myself for whatever the fate throws in my way.
This is not a place I would ever like to visit alone, not particularly in night hour. I know this place is cursed. I could feel it in my bones. Even the moon didn’t grace this place with its light.
Moon is the definition of pure and serenity. Nothing stands to next when compared to moon’s beauty.
“You wish to have a dialogue with a witch.” She whispered as she walked past through the numerous gravestones. My eyes wandered across their names and the others countless graves as well. Some of them were new, some of them were older. Judging by the stones I can tell most of them were more than ten years give or take.
Some graves were nameless as the name fades away with the age. Some were untouched for decades and still were in perfect condition. something was not right about the ones which were only a decade older, for some reason I can’t shrugged that feeling off.
There was something seriously wrong about this place. Ravenna’s hair flows in air as a short cold breeze passes through us. She didn’t give a damn to look back to see if I was following her.
She knew there was no way for me to run now. I don’t know where I was. I don’t have an idea what she is going to do with me. I am completely helpless. Only hope for me are my friends and family. Reed, Diana, August, Dumeny. The ere feeling of dread was making its way deep inside my heart as we walked further in the graveyard.
We walked further through countless graves. Some were destroyed, probably due to natural detrition. Some looked older than hundred years now.
“Now you want to know what I have against your mate?” she spits the last word with anger and hatred. It was the first time she was showing some kind of emotion and they were all bad. This whole situation is bad.
We walked past the graves until we were in the middle of the ground. “Look around yourself. What did you see?”
I can’t answer her. Deep down I know what she meant by looking around myself. I fear what she was going to say next. I know where the whole conversation was going.
My mate had seriously something to do with all these graves I was surrounded by.
“There are many things given to us in this life, for all the wrong reasons. What we do with such blessings, that is the true test of us.” She finally turned and her eyes were not like I have ever seen before.
They burn. They burn like scarlet coals, in hatred and anger, in malice and pain. I flinched back from the intensity of her eyes and immediately tripped on my foot before my butt hit the ground.
“That pathetic man killed them all. All of them, he slaughtered all of them. And you still wish to protect him. You all are blinded by the gods.”
“You don’t have the slightest of the idea how much a necromancer suffered. Why we are the only ones who get to hear these constant painful howls of the dead?” her eyes were on the brink of tears, from pain? Or maybe its anger. In dark it was impossible to get to see her face. The wavering sound of her voice was the only clue.
What should I say to that? Should I console her? Did she mean she is haunted by the dead? then how did Reed fit into it?
“You want to know why I brought you here. I see the same scene every time I close my eyes. I see the smiling faces of my friends, my sisters, my comrades, my precious family and then…” she stopped for a second to regain her strength.
“I see their lives claimed by that filthy wolf. Their lives leaving from their eyes, their blood spilling on the floor like it means nothing. Even after fifty years, I am still haunted by those painful memories.”
“Like father like son, the apple won’t fall far from the tree.” she spits in disgust. My legs were paralyzed now. I couldn’t gather courage to stand on my feet in front of her.
“First Andrew, then him. if only I know before he shares the same filthy blood with him…”
I coughed as it gets difficult for me to breath.
“Death is too easy for you, daughter of Rockwood. let me show what true agony look like.” She raise her hands in air and closed her eyes. I looked around to see if she had some backup or if she is calling someone to attack me.
No one. Both of us are the only living souls here. Why the sudden change of tracks? She was fine moment ago and now she is talking about death?
She was calm, then angry, sad and now she’s talking about killing me with the same tone.
“I have been tormented countless nights listening to their cries. Tell me you didn’t?” she finally took a first step towards me. I was too terrified to move by now. everything about her screams danger.
She took another step, the distance between us shortened to three feet. Now I could see her face more clearly. The unshed tears almost on the brink to spill from her eyes. Her cheeks red from the cold breeze, her pale skin glowing in the utter darkness.
I don’t know if it was her doing or fear but I was unable to move a single inch.
In the next second, she holds my face in her hands, her fingers brushing my ears. I was too scared to move. She was way too fast for me to comprehend. Her hands were cold as ice as I thought.
“You wanted to know why I killed Derek? You wanted to know why the goddess chose you for him?” her words hits my heart straight. She looked though my eyes, gaze into my soul.
“This all starts way before you were born.”
She pressed her index fingers to the either side of my forehead, right skyward my eyes.
“Good luck.” she muttered and before I knew it I was knocked out in second.
