Chapter 56 – Rising Of The Witch

“Mate?” I groaned as I heard the familiar voice whispering in my ear. “Mate!” I tried to move my eyelids to see, tried to move myself to the owner of the voice. it was like my hands were tied to something. Despite how much I tried to unbind myself I can’t move.

“You have to open your eyes or you’ll fell to this darkness.” I heard another voice. this time it was of a woman. Again, the familiar one. It was not soothing and calming like the one before but stern and cold.

“Here.” I feel my hands free fr4om the binding and th3e warmth engulfing me, embracing me. my skin feel warm. I feel the light and opened my eyes finally. As I thought, the light cleared my thoughts. I recognized the voices. First one belonged to the only person I love. Reed. Second belongs to the one who’s responsible for sending me to this hell I don’t know where I am the first place.

Just where the hell I am? I asked aloud. No response. I tried to take in my surrounding, but it was no use. It was like a thick fog was covering all the surrounding.

It was like I was in the deep water. Unable to breath, unable to move, unable to call for help.

As of answering my previous question, the fog cleared and I turned to see a small village in front of me. A small, beautiful village on the bank of river. As if concentrating on the village I found myself moving closer to it. the scenery zoomed in and yes there was a girl running down the street, laughing, giggling, her sound resonating in the background.

She must be seven or eight max. her hair, the black jet hair flows with the wind. I don’t have to think twice to recognize who she was. I was looking at the past self of Ravenna. or maybe it’s her collection of memories.

She run and run and I found myself following her small footsteps until we were both standing in front of a small chapel alongside the church. The church of the village.

Kid Ravenna stopped finally and try to control her heavy breaths. Now that she stopped running, I noticed something in her small hands. she pushed the door and welcomed herself inside.

I closed my eyes and sighed before following her in. She was saying something, but I can’t comprehend what she was saying. She started running again as soon as she saw someone in front of her sight. Sister.

She run towards her and crashes into her. the face of the sister was blurred. I tried to concentrate on her face but the more I tried to look in her the more her face got blurred. I guess Ravenna wanted me to show her past but not everything.

Still, it is more than I could ask from her.

There was a strange warmth coming from the sister. Though I can’t see her. I could easily feel the gentleness and kindness her eyes must have held. She picked Ravenna up and Ravenna reach for her face and with a swift movement she placed a small handmade crown of flowers she probably made herself on her head.

The sister was surprised but soon she hugged her tight and swing her round. I could feel Ravenna giggling again. It was quiet. Ear deafening silence I can’t bear.

Soon everything melts in water, the water rises again and I panicked if I will drown again or at least I’ll feel it.

I closed my eyes and feel the water rising. I opened them a while after when I was sure it won’t rise. The scene was already changed, and I found myself sitting on the dining table. There was Ravenna sitting beside the sister. I turned my head and there were four children as well.

They all were of the same age of Ravenna if not less. With sister sitting in the middle they all eat.

“Why’re you still wearing it?” the voice of the girl sitting in front of sister asked. She was pointing towards the crown Ravenna made for her.

“Why? Because my dear Rev have made it for me.” I heard her voice and my heart as if hearing the voice of sister soothed on its own. how much a kind a person can be to have that much effect through her voice.

She kissed Ravenna and she smiled as if she won the world.

“Fine, I’ll make one for you then.” The girl announced and I could hear the pinge of jealousy in her voice.

“But it wouldn’t be as good as mine.” Ravenna stick her tongue out and all of them busted in laughter.

The scene changed very quickly again. This time it was Ravenna and sister sitting inside the dark room. sister’s face was covered in dark this time as well.

“Dear Rev., you have to be more cautious from the next time when playing around the village children.” She said kindly brushed her hair. She started brushing them softly.

Ravenna turned her head to look at her. “Why sissy? Why am I the one who has to think and play? I don’t see brother jack or sis Sofia doing it?”

Sister kissed her hair before started braiding them. “Because you’re very special.”

“Special?” Ravenna looked at her with her big violet eyes, she looked innocent. Those eyes were nothing like now.

“Yes, you’re blessed my child and it is up to you what you do with such a blessing. But people won’t understand it. we intend to fear the unknown.”

She braided her hair and kissed her forehead before she scouted her back to her bed kissing her again.

“Goodnight my dear Ravenna. may the god have the divine blessing over you as always.” The scene changes again in the split second.

I blink twice to adjust my eyesight. It was not a dim room but the time of afternoon most probably.

“Sister!” Sophia hollered- cried as she run in the house not before locking the door behind her. she was holding Ravenna’s hand tightly while she was crying nonstop.

Sister was in front of us in the next second. She was quick on her heels to take Ravenna from her. Maybe she has heard Sophia’s distressed voice for the first time.

She ushered Ravenna from Sophia and hugged her while cajoling her. she whispered something in Ravenna’s ear, and she tried to stop crying. To stop her tears from falling. My heart pings at the sight of her innocent eyes tearing. She had such beautiful eyes.

“What happened?” this was all sister could speak in between Ravenna’s crying.

“She does MAGIC!” Sophia said in exclamation as she pointed her little finger towards Ravenna. Ravenna buried her head in sister’s neck as if she doesn’t want Sophia to see. With that Sophia also started crying.

Sister picked both of them and hugged them until they both stop crying.

“I- I didn’t do anything.” Ravenna hiccupped.

“I know my dear Rev can’t harm anyone.” Sister kissed Ravenna’s head and turned her gaze towards Sophia. She made Ravenna’s bed and after ensuring she was asleep she closed the door before coming back to Sophia.

“Now dear, tell me from the beginning.” she cajoled Sophia.

“We were playing together, and Dani got her leg bruised. Dani is Rev’s best friend and Rev also started crying and out of blue there was a blue light from Rev’s hands and the injuries of Dani started to get healed in front of us.”

Sophia hugged sister and she hugged her back. “Were you scared of Rev’s powers?” Sister whispered lowly. Sophia shook her head in denial.

“I wove her.” she said and tried to breathe. “Yes my dear you love her, and you know what we do when we love someone. We protect them.” She traced her cheeks, rubbing the stains of long dried tears and kissed her head.

Sophia hugged her again and the scene changed once more.

My head hurt my heart couldn’t take anymore. What was this I was seeing? How was Reed related to all of this?

I opened my eyes once again but this time I felt the sudden rise in temperature. I didn’t know how but it was not something I had ever felt before.

My first instinct was to step back but I couldn’t. I was in someone else consciousness and I am not allowed to do anything.

The first thing I saw was flames. Red- blue majestic flames engulfing everything that comes in its way.

“DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY. SHE IS A WITCH.”

“A WITCH!”

“KILL THE WITCH. KILL THE WITCH.”

“IT’S ALL HAPPENEING BECAUSE OF THAT WITCH.” I heard several voices in the background most probably coming from the outside.

I moved in the direction from where the voices were coming. Before I could reach for the door opened itself and there she stood in the middle of the hellfire.

“Ravenna means no harm to anyone and anybody. She is just a kid, the god’s blessing and I won’t let anyone harm a single hair of her head.”

“SHE IS A WITCH! KILL THE WITCH. SHE IS THE DEVIL IN DISGUISE.”

“WHERE GOD BUILT A CHURCH, THE DEVIL BUILDS A CHAPEL NEXT TO IT.” with that all of it was consumes in the fire.

My body burns alongside my heart. It was like someone lit me on fore deliberately and forget to see.

I heard Ravenna crying but couldn’t make from which direction it’s coming from. I could feel the shallowness of her heart. And why she purposefully hates the humankind.

I saw her crying in the middle of nowhere. I don’t know where I was. where this place was. but for some reason it felt familiar. As if I have visited this pace before.

“I’ll kill of them. every one of them. I’ll not only curse their lives but their children and their children and their children. They wanted a witch so badly. They’ll now have it.” behind her was another walking figure covered in dark cloak, I recognized it right away. it was none other than Hecate.

“You want revenge my child. You’ll have it. come with me and you shall get your revenge.” She whispered dead in the cold and her voice give me chills to the bones.

The scene melts again in the water and I found myself fighting for air again.
