Chapter 54 - Witch’s Graveyard
Esma’s pov.
My mother taught me long ago how to interact with others as an alpha, how to read the room in worse case scenarios and hopefully coming with a good strategy to turn back the odds in our favor.
It is not some complex trial and error method, just a trick. One simple trick to know about someone. Simply, if you want to know about someone just piss them off.
“Emmy the best way to know about someone is what get them angry on the first place.” My mother’s words resonate in my numb ears.
I guess her words of wisdom have done the trick here as well. I have to thank her for sure later, If I made it alive from here. I hit the nail right on the spot. I can tell Ravenna is pissed when I mentioned Reed but she tried her best to conceal the truth that she is trying her best not to snap my neck.
The single thought is terrifying yet exciting. I am all in to push my luck.
“Tiring, isn’t it? After all of your hard work and still someone bossed you around?” she cracked her neck tiredly. I made sure trying to look my best to be nonchalant while talking to her. As if it doesn’t faze me that my very life is in her hands.
“Ask me. You were telling me your story or something?” Honestly what the hell he did to you?
I mean Reed told me about Hecate, he told me about Moona and Andrew and his mother too. He told me everything and last time I recall he didn’t mention her. Not even for once. Where did she fit in all this mess?
I didn’t hear her name until now. Hell, I am seeing her for the third time in my life. First one was when she give me the letter last year in the annual meeting. Second time I shake her hand in forest when I went to meet Hecate for the first time.
Well, I guess third time is a charm for her.
What kind of grudge does she hold against Reed? What did that idiot did to her? hopefully not some serious damage. I could just hope. Or maybe I am too late to make this comment.
“Don’t you want to know all your answers first? The answers you seek, even tried to knock the doors of heaven and still feels unsatisfied.”
The words hit my brain like a wreck and a smile soon make its way on her lips knowing she had turned the tables on her side. It only widens seeing my pupils dilating on mentioning it. how did she know? She guess? No. a vague guess out of nowhere? Impossible. Then what?
Does she have the same ability to foresee the future as Diana? That can’t be true. The timing didn’t match. She wouldn’t have waited for two days after I came in contact with Moona. The timing is too imperfect.
My tongue was numb and my throat was dry. The next words that spilled from my lips came from so deep within my gut that it nearly made all the things I have ever said feel like a lie. The curiosity took the better of me.
“Tell me.” I feel hypnotized by her violet eyes. They shine like sapphires.
The simple gesture of superiority was long gone from her face. Only left was the deep carnal yet fierce glow in her eyes.
“As expected from the blood of Rockwood’s.” She breathed. She lifted her fingers, tied the loose strands of black hair falling on her head behind her ear and whispered something. My eyes were set on her hands, I didn’t notice what she said until I feel the ropes on my legs freeing.
My eyes widened in surprise as she put her index finger on my lips to gesture me not to make a sound. She walked to the door of the dungeon and said something incoherently before opening the door. she opened it widely and stands at the corner, waiting patiently for me.
What the hell? One moment ago, she was threating me to kill me if I dare to move my body even a inch to escape and now she is the one who freed me from the ropes and now standing for me, opening the door to some other side I bet.
Witches. They are unpredictable and hard to understand. I had hard time understanding their ways of thinking. First Hecate, then Diana and now she. As far as I have met every witch. She is the most dangerous and mercurial in my opinion.
But. Still deep down my guts were telling me to trust her for once for some sick reason. Even if It will cost me my life. I care? Maybe but the answers I want were more important. Probably, they weighted more than my life now.
My feet don’t listen to me anymore. Yes, they were sore from how much tightened the ropes were but I could still stand. The bruises on my hands were already healed, leaving just faint scars.
I walked mindlessly towards her like a moth does to the flame, to feel the heat for itself, to burn. My brain is numb, I am sure the spell was broken, I was no more hypnotized by her gaze, or maybe I thought so. I walked towards the door she held open for me, not breaking the eye contact with Ravenna.
Her purple jewels she called for eyes shine in darkness, cry of death I bet anyone could hear just by seeing in her eyes for a second. She bends her neck towards the door and I closed my eyes before complying with her wish.
I moved forward and opened my eyes when the cold breeze hit my face. I found myself in the dark alley. I scrunched my nose in disgust as the wind brings the rotten smell of blood and dead.
It is still dark here but my eyes adjusted to the darkness pretty much quickly. Ravenna walked past me and a shudder passed through my spine. Her whole personality changed all of a sudden. She was emitting a cold- dark aura.
I contemplated to run back to the dungeon. At least that way I would be sure to be alive and my chances of running will be more. I turned my neck and regretted almost immediately. The door was long gone. I was standing in the middle of nowhere, in the dark alley.
“Make sure you are behind me or mist will devour you.” Her words were cold as ice and chills passed through my spine yet again.
We walked and walked in the mist through the darkness. Sometimes the ground was bumpy and rough and sometimes it was muddy, I made sure not to lose the sight of her as we walked deeper in the old ally.
At last, she finally stopped walking. I move my gaze from the ground to look above, my mouth wide open in shock, fear.
“Welcome to the witch’s graveyard.” Ravenna turned to look at me, her purple eyes shine yet again on the word ‘graveyard’.
