Chapter 16 — Secret

Victor's POV:

"Can you stop being fussy?" Alvin asked. It was now morning. Sophia had left my bed this morning before I woke up.

I found her taking a shower and getting ready for school. I fussed over her wet hair, making sure to dry it and style it for her. We might be an all-guys house, but I still learned how to do hair with the rest of the pack. I knew I'd have to know how to style my future baby's hair.

"I'm not fussy," I snapped at my brother. Sophia had kicked me out of her room so she could get dressed while I sat down in the kitchen, still in my pajamas.

"Really? You're fussy every time Soph even leaves your sight. Last night, you scared Sammy so much, he slept in my bed," Alvin said with a sigh.

Sammy, our youngest, wasn't the most dominant in our home. He was a bit sensitive, too. Me snapping at him last night—maybe that wasn't my best move. I just had to sit next to my mate. I wanted to mark my mate.

This whole crazy pull would calm down after she accepted me as her mate. We didn't have to do anything. She just needed to accept me as hers. I had already accepted her the second I saw her.

"Go get dressed, man. Maybe we should tell her and get it over with," my brother and beta said.

We were brothers. He was older than me, and he was my beta, so he got a free pass most of the time. With a sigh, I made it to my room and got dressed. I walked back down to see Sophia hugging Sammy. I wasn't thinking of anything when I pulled her toward me, my face buried in her neck.

"Daddy, what's wrong with you?" my baby snapped at me. She called me Daddy. Dear God, she called me Daddy.

I thought my eyes just made a heart shape. I couldn't help but smile. She could snap and yell for all I cared. She just called me Daddy.

"He's a lost cause, little sis," I heard Kyle say as Alvin hugged a now sobbing Sammy. I was his Alpha, and me snapping and scaring him twice in such a short time wasn't helping my case.

I snapped out of it and tried to talk to my brother, who just cowered away from me. My mate—she looked so mad. She turned to Adam, my twin.

"I'm riding with you guys," she said, and they nodded.

"You coming, Sammy? Or are you gonna spend the day in Alvin's lap?" Kyle teased.

Sammy lifted his head from Alvin's lap and left with the rest, not sparing me a second glance. I'd have to work this out soon. My mate left with my brothers, and Alvin held me back before I had the chance to run after her.

"You need to stop being fussy and tell Sophia," Alvin said.

"You want me to do a Twilight scene and tell her our ancestors' story over a bonfire?" I asked with fake enthusiasm.

"We don't have a story, you idiot. The Goddess just created us and what's ours," Alvin said in disbelief, not getting the joke.

"I know, you moron, but you want me to just go and say, 'Hey, baby, I'm a werewolf and so are you'?" I asked.

"Technically, she's only a quarter wolf, and no! Make it romantic," my brother said.

Make it romantic, my ass. I got my bike keys and left after them. If I were lucky, I'd get there before the bell and get to see Sophia before her classes. Sadly, even with breaking speed, I was late to class. Sophia was already in hers.

Kyle messaged me, saying he'd walk her to classes while I thought about ways to tell her our secret. I couldn't wait much longer. Her simply accepting to be my baby girl wasn't enough.

I was a beast on the inside. I needed to know she accepted me before I went crazy with need. I wasn't paying attention to any of my classes until an idea came to me: a way to tell Sophia that wasn't taken from Twilight.

I messaged Kyle and Adam, telling them to keep an eye on Sophia while I got my surprise ready. It was a way to show her how much she meant to me and my wolf.

I also asked them to drive her over once school was over. I could try to be a romantic guy, but this was the best I could come up with.

After school, Adam drove a very confused Sophia to the middle of the woods under a giant oak tree. A picnic was waiting for her.

"Good luck, sis," Adam said before leaving a very confused Sophia with me.

"Sophia," I said, my whole body tense. What if she refused me?

"A picnic?" she asked in a confused voice, and I took her hand and showed her to the blanket already spread out on the ground. We both sat down, and I couldn't help but tell her everything.

"Under an oak tree thousands of years ago, a Goddess sat. They say she was the Goddess of the moon. She loved the Earth. Her favorite place was one similar to this tree. Whenever she came and sat down here, a wolf would come to her. She loved the wolf. They became friends. The legend says they could understand each other," I started and saw I had Sophia's full attention. "When the wolf got too old and died, the Goddess missed him. In honor of their friendship, she created a new race: a mix of humans and her old friend. She didn't make them alone. Every wolf had a soulmate, one that they would die to protect," I continued, and Sophia nodded her head. "I'm one of the moon Goddess's creations, Sophia. And so are you. Well, a quarter of you," I said with a nervous smile.

"What? What are you talking about?" Sophia asked in confusion.

"It's just best I show you," I said and got to my feet. I closed my eyes and let my wolf side take over.

Once I was standing on four feet, I saw Sophia's eyes go wide before she whispered, "Beautiful."
