CHAPTER EIGHTY

CHAPTER EIGHTY

Amy POV

I hadn’t heard anything from Alex or Jericho.

I thought I would have heard something by now.

God, I hoped Alex didn’t go through with his sinister plan.

I was more shocked than anybody when he told me about Jericho’s feelings for Cassandra.

But nobody deserves being humiliated.

Especially not Cassie.

She was the sweetest person in the world.

And she was nothing but always kind to me.

I don’t care how badly Alex wanted to give Jericho a knock down.

Cassie shouldn’t be the collateral damage.

I’m behind my desk at my new job.

No, I’m not the secretary anymore, I have a secretary now.

You wouldn’t believe how many dicks I had to suck to get to where I am either.

And I’m not being sarcastic either I mean that literally.

I did think at one point that me being with Jericho would take me places, but I should have known better.

Jericho Dean doesn’t do relationships.

They’re more or less an inconvenience to him.

He said as much when we were…

Doing what we were doing.

I knew as soon as he said that that our fucking was a limited thing.

But a girl like me doesn’t really worry too much about it.

We always bounce back.

On to the next one.

That’s why I was so shocked to hear that little Cassandra had captivated his heart in such a way.

I had never seen her or Jericho exchange more than greetings to each other in the mornings.

And I knew they never met each other outside of the workplace.

9 times out of 10 Cassie was always reading something.

She always had her head in a book.

I was sure she never saw the world circling because of it.

But then that best friend of hers…

Alexis Winters.

She was another specimen of human.

I always wondered how those two became friends.

They’re not exactly compatible, if you will.

Alexis was rich, beautiful and loved to party.

I mean don’t get me wrong Cassandra was a rare beauty but the partying and being rich were never her thing.

I guess that’s what drew them together.

Alexis’s ying to Cassandra’s yang.

They do say opposites attract.

Guess that’s what Jericho’s infatuation is with her.

Something new and foreign.

I needed to stop dwelling on this crap.

Jericho and I were over.

Plus, there wasn’t a chance of running into him here.

Mr McCormick was the best boss.

I was now an editor, and I had a major raise.

Things were looking up for me.

But I still couldn’t shake this guilty feeling I had deep in my gut.

I didn’t want to see Cassie hurt.

But then, on the other hand I didn’t care enough to call and see if she was ok either.

Wow what kind of person does that make me.

A pretty horrible one, I guess.

As I sit behind my desk contemplating this Mr McCormick walks into my office.

“Good morning, sir.”

I get up to greet him.

He looks up from his cell.

“Morning.”

“So, let me make this quick.”

I wait in anticipation for his next words.

“We have a new employee starting Monday and I want you to show her the ropes.”

“Get her settled in if you will.”

New employee.

But they just hired me.

That was fast.

“Sir I’d be more than delighted to.”

Can you say kiss ass.

“What’s her name.”

His eyes glued to his cell again.

“Sorry, what was that?”

I move closer so he can hear me more clearly.

“Her name Sir.”

He tries focusing on me for a moment.

“Ah indeed.”

“Her name is Cassandra Knox.”

And in that moment, it felt like all the air in the room had evaporated.

I couldn’t breathe.

He didn’t say what I just think he said did he.

“Amy is everything alright, you’ve gone as white as a ghost.”

I grab for the glass of water on my desk.

For some reason all of a sudden, I was really thirsty.

“Yes… yes sir.”

“I must have heard you say the wrong name.”

“Did you say Cassandra Knox?”

He looks at me like I’m stupid.

“Yes, that is what I said.”

“Is there a problem?”

“Do you know her?”

He waits for me to answer him.

Let’s not leave him waiting shall we.

“As a matter of fact, we used to work together.”

“That’s great.”

“There shouldn’t be any problems then.”

He says as he starts to walk away.

“She’ll be here 9am sharp.”

No problems.

Yeah right.

If Alex has had his way Cassandra knows about me and Jericho, and I can only imagine she is not too pleased about it.

I grab my cell to call the one person who can clarify a few things for me.

Hopefully he didn’t have the balls to do what he was going to do and I’m in the clear.

But that’s me wishful thinking.

Alex has definitely got the balls to do what he wanted to do to Jericho.

Which means I’m screwed, and my new job might be over before it’s even begun.

Great.

Thanks Alex.

This was all I needed.

And I couldn’t tell Mr McCormick that I couldn’t show Cassie the ropes because I was fucking her boyfriend.

He already thinks the only reason I got this job is because I slept my way to the top.

Which is true but he doesn’t need to know that.

He owns the company.

And you probably thought I slept with him.

Nope, one of his investors.

It was by sheer coincidence actually.

We were at this dinner party my parents like to drag me to.

They do it on occasion when they feel like I’m not using my full potential.

And when I told them I was going to quit Jericho’s company they couldn’t have me being a lay about.

So, we ended up here.

Practically a meet and greet for wealthy snobs who think that only money and status can buy you happiness.

But it was a good place to meet to climb the ladder if you were looking to do that.

I wasn’t but my parents made it abundantly clear that if I was still going to receive an allowance I needed to be in another job by the end of the week.

Hence the snob fest.

I wasn’t into it.

I just sat at the bar drinking my feelings while my parents smooched their way around.

I watched as they laughed at all the right things.

And agreed with all the wrong ones.

I didn’t want to be here, but there was no way I’d survive without their financial assistance, so I allowed them to carry on.

I was about 4 tequila shots in and feeling it when this guy sat by me.

Dressed to the nines a little older than me and fucking gorgeous.

He ordered a whiskey on the rocks.

I asked for another shot.

The best thing about these kinds of events.

Open bars.

I guess even the rich snobs have to be drunk when conducting business.

They only way they can survive themselves.

The waiter brings over both our drinks.

I down mine within seconds.

I hear a chuckle.

“Easy there.”

This heavenly voice sounds.

I look to the right of me.

It was the gorgeous man.

“Easy yourself.”

Pathetic I know but I was drunk, and I didn’t care much for him ruining my buzz.

“I’m sorry I just meant you don’t want to injure yourself.”

Ha injure, myself.

This guy clearly didn’t know I could hold my liquor.

“I don’t remember asking for your permission.”

I tap the bar indicating to the barman I want another shot.

He nods in acknowledgement.

The gorgeous guy holds his empty glass up.

Another barman nods his head.

The guy moves closer.

“No, I imagine you never ask for permission.”

And as his drink arrives, he grabs it and leaves.

I don’t know what it was.

The liquid courage or the way he just said that to me.

I had to get up and know this man.

So, I followed him.

He was heading towards the men’s toilets.

And in that moment, I said fuck it.

I followed him inside locked the door behind me strolled up to him pulls his trousers down and went to town on his dick.

Right there in the men’s bathroom.

Within minutes he came undone.

And after I was done, I wiped my mouth licked my lips turned and walked right back out the door.
