CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

Alex POV

I waited patiently for Jericho’s call.

The call to which he was telling me that he had told both Alexis and Cassandra the whole story.

All the sordid details and everything.

He hadn’t called yet and it had been 5 hours.

I was getting a bit anxious.

It shouldn’t take this long to tell them.

Something must have happened.

Maybe they didn’t get the full jist of everything.

Or they didn’t like what they were hearing, so Jericho had to do some major damage control.

That made me even more anxious.

There was nothing for it.

I had to know what was happening.

I grab my cell.

And ring Jericho.

“What Alex.”

He wasn’t impressed.

“You were supposed to call me when you had told the girls the situation.”

I was annoyed.

It was just one call that’s all.

Why was he so annoyed.

“Dude, it’s been five hours.”

“You can’t still be telling them.”

I just wanted to be kept in the loop was that too much to ask.

“Jesus Alex, it isn’t exactly something I can just speed up.”

“There’s a lot to go through.”

Pfft.

I really didn’t care for his excuses.

“Whatever Jericho, are the girls, ok?”

I could hear his breathing becoming deep.

He knew who I meant.

“She’s fine Alex.”

“Well, as fine as one can be given the unexpected information she has just been given in one full, swoop.”

I can hear the resentment in his voice as he was telling me this.

“Alright, well, let me know if I can do anything to help.”

No confirmation or anything Jericho just hung up the phone.

I don’t think he was happy.

Well, I couldn’t blame him he thought I was making the moves on his girl.

I was, but that wasn’t the issue here.

I was generally worried.

Strangely enough about both Cassandra and Alexis.

It was a crazy time.

I sit at my desk answering emails.

You know the boring side of owning a construction company when I receive a text from a number I don’t recognise.

“Can’t wait for our catchup on Saturday it’s been way too long Alex.”

And after I read it, I knew exactly who had sent it.

And the hairs on the back of my next stood up.

Just something about the way, the text sounded.

I could be reading way too much into it but I just felt like there was something I was missing.

I don’t reply.

I sit back in my chair debating whether or not to inform Jericho of our little situation and how it’s progressing.

On second thought…

Fuck Jericho.

I’ll handle this myself.

I’ll just go and talk to Dennis find out what’s what.

See why Sarah’s making her presence known all of a sudden.

After work I’ll head down there.

On my way I’ll call Jericho let him know what’s been happening and see if he will make an appearance.

Some back up if you will.

Cassie POV

I Just couldn’t believe it.

All of it.

Everything.

The feeling I have towards what had happened was the most terrifying feeling I had ever felt in my whole life.

Not just for Sarah.

But for Alex and Jericho and what happened afterwards.

I couldn’t even be angry about the actions they took in justification for Sarah.

I would have wanted the same justice also.

The pain she must have felt in that moment.

I just couldn’t bare to think of it.

I felt dirty.

I needed a moment to breathe.

I head outside into the garden.

I felt him behind me when I was just standing there looking towards the sky.

“I’m sorry Cassandra.”

“I know it’s a lot.”

“But I had to tell you.”

I turn towards him.

“Why Jericho.”

“I know Alex started all this but why did you want me to know all of this.”

“Now.”

He strokes my face.

“Because Cassandra, now we know she’s back.”

“We don’t know why she’s back.”

“And what state she’s in.”

“Mentally that is.”

“When she left, she wasn’t in a good place.”

“And I know it’s been over 20 years, but we don’t know how she has been for them.”

I move out of his grasp.

“I know Jericho, I know.”

“I just want to know the full situation so I can grasp everything.”

I walk back into the kitchen where Alexis is still seated.

Her face as white as a sheet.

Everything Jericho has told us is haunting her.

I’m pretty good when it comes to stuff like this.

I’ve had a lot of shock in my life.

Nothing shocks me anymore.

But Alexis…

She’s pretty new to it.

I guess that’s what life’s like when you don’t have to worry about anything and think everything is rainbows and kittens.

Rainbows and kittens maybe not but you get my jist.

“Cassandra…”

“Can we just have a moment and talk about this please.”

I abruptly turn to him.

“What could you possibly say to make this any better.”

“Let me explain.”

“Well, try to explain.”

I throw my hands in the air.

“Honestly, what more is there to explain.”

“The girl you were once seeing, who you stole from your brother who then got back with her was raped at a party you were both at with so called friends and then when you found out who they were you and Alex both dealt with the situation violently.”

“How am I doing so far.”

“Do I need to go on.”

He looks at me with sadness in his eyes.

I don’t understand it though.

“Jeez Cass what’s gotten into you.”

Alexis has come out of her head.

“I’m just so sick of this.”

“Of what.”

She asks me kindly.

“Of all of this.”

“I didn’t want any of this.”

“It’s like every time we try and start something with each other something pops up.”

“We’re never going to get started, are we?”

“This is all just a joke.”

“A big fat fucking joke.”

I turn and storm out.

A little childish I know but I needed them both to know I was serious about this.
