Chapter 154 CHILD WORTHY

Chapter 154 CHILD WORTHY

NIRELLE

"Congratulations! You are three weeks pregnant." Mae's declaration shocked me a bit. I blink rapidly; maybe my ears would pick up what she meant, but no matter how much time passed, it did not change.

"Are you perhaps unhappy about it?" Mae asked with worry on her face. It was only normal that she thought that way.

I had known that she suspected something like this when she demanded extra tests. She has taken my samples and left with them. Hearing that the first thing in the morning did feel weird.

I raise my hand to my mouth and gently shake my head. "Pregnant?" I should have known the results of tumbling in bed with Lucien multiple times would be a baby, so why was I so shocked about it?

Was it because I did not plan for it? "I just don't know what to feel. I think it's a good thing, but still..." I trail off as my mind feels cluttered, and I try to piece my way through it.

"It's normal to feel that way." She didn't mean that. She was comforting me. It was not normal to want it and not at the same time.

"You do not have to lie to me," I add, and she shakes her head. She looks at me with a smile.

"I can understand very well what you mean. It's always a confusing feeling to know you are growing a life." She waits for me to react, and when I don't, she continues. "If you don't want it, we can take it..."

"What do you mean by that?" My hand instinctively clutches my stomach as my eyes narrow at her as if she were the enemy.

It hadn't been up to ten minutes, and yet I was already feeling so attached to the baby. I guess this was the joy of motherhood.

She smiled and then took up her phone. It would only be normal that she wanted to call Lucien and give him the good news.

"Do you think I can tell him myself?" It is not a request, but it sounds like it. "Things right now are a bit..."

"Of course. I am sure he would like the news better if it were coming from you."

"In the meantime, can you at least keep it a secret?" I add, and she nods.

"You have to come in for a prenatal checkup. I am going to hand you over to a very good OB/GYN." She looked happier than I felt.

"Congratulations," she said once again, and I nodded.

She left me alone in the room after she was done making sure that I was fine. "If you feel any way, make sure you let me know," she said as she left the room.

I lay on the bed with my hand gently on my stomach as if I was scared that any random movement might change reality. Was I worthy to have a child? I had always detested the idea of having a baby.

And at the time, I did not know the depths of the evil Yvette had done, but now that I was growing a baby, I was aware of the fact that I wanted it more than anything else in the world.

"Nirelle?" Zane called from the other side of the door.

"Come in." The door handle presses down, and then I am met with him standing in the middle of my room at once.

"What did the doctor say? Is everything okay with you? Do we need to go to the hospital?" He had been worried since I told him that I had to take extra tests.

"If I have to go to the hospital, what are you going to do?" I am teasing, but the tension does not seem to let him be aware of that fact.

"I will not care about anyone; I will make sure you get the best treatment possible."

I had never experienced the love of a sibling, and seeing it firsthand gave me some kind of weird feeling. It was warm and cold at the same time.

"You do not have to exaggerate; I am good," I say dismissively.

"Okay, is everything good?" He asked again, and I stared at him, wondering if I should tell him about the pregnancy.

"You can't tell anyone this," I warn, and he moves closer to the bed, just stopping with enough space for someone else to go in between us. I knew he could also feel the awkwardness of this moment.

"What is it about?" He asked, trying to be as calm as he could be. He must be thinking a thousand different things.

"You can't tell Lucien either." I smack my lips as his eyebrows furrow. "Not a single soul," I add firmly, trying to hide the joy that wanted to erupt from my face.

"Okay, now you are scaring me."

"I'm pregnant." My voice does not carry any emotions because I want to see what he thinks about it.

"What?" His eyes widened with shock as his mouth stayed open. "You... are... You are... What?" He stuttered as I sat there, and then my smile grew.

"Oh my goodness! Some much-needed good news," he pulled me out of bed and hugged me tightly. "This is wonderful, great! Oh my goodness," he continued, exclaiming as he held me.

He pulled away from the hug and held me by the shoulders. "Are you happy about this?" He asked, realising that he hadn't asked me that and had gone off celebrating on his own.

"Of course," I was happy about it, even with the second thought in my mind.

"I have to call..." He paused and looked at me. "Oh, you said not to tell Lucien." He did not ask, but I could tell that he wanted to know why.

"I want to be the one to break the news to him."

"This is really good news," he said as he lowered me gently to the bed. "Do you want to eat anything at all? Just name it and you will get it."

I did not know him well enough to get this side of him from just a glance. He was already ready to make a big deal.

"You don't have to act this way."

"I have to act this way," he said as if I was being ridiculous for suggesting he calm down. "I am going to be an uncle."

"I think you'd make a fantastic uncle," I murmured. "I mean, I don't know you that well because all memories of you seem faded, but you are taking such good care of me, and I know you'd take care of him too." I rub my stomach.

"Him? You can't possibly already know the gender, can you?" He asked, wondering if I was so far along and had kept it a secret the entire time.

"Of course not, I just know it's a boy."

"Whether it's a boy or a girl does not matter. I am going to spoil them silly."
