Chapter 155 GATED TRAPS

Chapter 155 GATED TRAPS

YVETTE

"Why are you just getting home at this time?" I jumped back in fear as I narrowed my eyes into the dark room. I was tiptoeing into the house. My plan was to avoid meeting Enoch for as long as I could before I determined how Nirelle and Michael had disappeared.

Enoch was by the lamp and switched it on, and light shone on his face. I had delayed my time out even though I had nothing to do. The thought of having to face him was too scary.

"I was out with friends," I lie, hoping he will not press on it. I had to look for Nirelle and her father, but I had no idea where to start. Where could they be? Could Lucien have taken them and just wanted to play pranks on me?

"Which of them?" he asked. He had never been skeptical about where I had been before. I clear my throat as I think about who among my friends would lie for me.

"Ermm..." I stammer, and he gets up with a nod, walking towards me as if he were calculating my steps, ready to prey on me. "I was with..."

"No need; why don't we just go say hello to Nirelle?" he asked.

He had refused to let me know where she was earlier, but now he was ready to tell me? Was this not strange? I gulp, and he smiles.

"Come on, let's go." He was not giving me an option, so I just nodded, and like a sheep being led out, I followed him. Refusing was only going to lead me to more trouble; instead of worrying, I should just get there and accept whatever I get when I'm there.

The ride is out of town, and even though I had gone on this road before, it was the first time I felt the eeriness of the road. Enoch is just quietly staring at the window.

I suddenly remembered when we first met and how kind he had been to me, regardless of whatever everyone said. "A beautiful woman like you shouldn't be poor. Come to me and I'll take care of you." At first, I thought he was crazy to demand that of a married woman, but he showed me how much he cared, and after seeing something like that, I could not deny it.

I had always had dreams of being wealthy and swiping black or golden cards in malls and travelling wherever it was I wanted to be. Enoch could give me a life that Michael could not even dream of having.

If I were unmarried, it would have been easier, and he wanted things on his terms. Why didn't he seem dangerous when he suggested that I kidnap my children and ex-husband? Why did he suddenly seem dangerous now?

"We are here, sir." The car is still running, but we are at the front of something that looks more like a warehouse out front. The concept was wise and deceiving. The inside has rooms like a hotel, and none of them seems to be in the best shape.

"Get down." Enoch's command was enough to get him moving. He dropped right down from the car, leaving us alone. My heart was pounding in my chest while my breathing was louder than the engine.

"Do you want to confess anything before we go in?" he asked, and I turned to him.

"No," I say with a headshake. I knew this was a good time to confess, but I could not bring myself to tell the truth. His stare was burning a hole in the side of my face, and he didn't need any more words for me to hear the question loud and clear.

"I do not have anything to hide," I say again.

"That means that if I find anything suspicious, I can do what I want to, right?"

I could not tell if he already knew. I shook my head, and he turned from me to the door. The door clicked open. "Wait!" I say with my heart in my mouth. He closed the door and turned to me.

"I took Nirelle out." His face does not show any atom of shock, which means he already knew. I explain how I could not stand the thought of anything happening to her and how she was now missing from the psychiatric hospital I had taken her to.

"She is what?" His face this time showed that he hadn't known that. "What does that mean?"

"I made a deal with Lucien and went to get her, but by the time we got there, someone else had moved her from the room, and two other people were occupying the room."

"So you are telling me that you took her to the same room where her father was?" he asked, and without looking up at him, I nodded.

"What the fuck?" he screamed as he slammed his fist into the head of the chair in front of him. "Lucien, that bastard," he screamed and then turned to me.

"I knew Lucien was the one who did this," I murmured to myself. I knew I was to blame because if I had not taken her out of here, then he would still have her here.

"You did this," he said, his hand in my face as he leaned in as dangerously as he could be. "You!"

"I am sorry," I say when my back touches the door behind me in an attempt to get away from him. "I couldn't let you rape her again."

I had never been okay with him putting his hands on her. In fact, I was not okay with anything that happened, but I chose to turn a blind eye to it. I got what I wanted, so I could not complain about the conditions. Nirelle had gotten her salvation with Lucien; I just wish that he were a normal boy for once.

"Rape her? I wasn't raping her, and I had never done such a thing." He was so convincing that if I hadn't seen it myself, I would have been deceived.

"But you..."

"Be careful what you say before people believe it."

Of course, he cared about his image. He did not want anyone to think that he raped his daughter, even though it was the truth. He turned away from me and tapped on the window. The driver, who was just standing around waiting to be told what to do, opened the driver's seat and entered.

"To the Vexley Mansion," he commanded. The driver did not question and began driving without a word.

"How can we go there?" I ask. Maybe if they had known how dangerous it would be for them to talk about their houses online, they wouldn't have done it.

"Faster," Enoch said, even though we were already going fast enough. The driver managed to shorten the time of the journey by almost half. The gates open for us almost too easily, and maybe Lucien was waiting for us to come.

"This might be a trap. I think we should go home," I say as the car stops right in front of the door. A figure works in the far distance, and without thinking, Enoch gets down and charges towards him. He threw a punch at his face, tumbling over from the intensity of the punch.

Lucien, however, stood still, wiping off his mouth gently as Enoch rushed to him again, ready to throw another jab at him. I rushed down before anything more could happen.

"Enoch!" I scream. "What do you think you are doing?"
