Chapter 153 THE DOUBLE-PLAY

Chapter 153 THE DOUBLE-PLAY

LUCIEN

I know I have to follow Yvette, not because I want to talk to her, but because I know this is a way I might be able to negotiate Nirelle's and my way out of this madness.

"I did what?" I asked Frt to stall, and she scrunched her face at me with a headshake.

"Oh, really? Don't you think petty tricks like this are too small for your level?" You shouldn't be doing things like this," she added.

"This thing, like what?" You shrugged, and it made me look pretty childish, but I did not care at all. This was what they wanted, and maybe I was acting like this was going to get me what I wanted.

"I have to give it to you; the men really did underestimate what you could do," she added with a smirk. "In one moment, you managed to disarm two people."

"I have no idea what it is that you are talking about," I say and push past her, ready to leave. She follows after me and climbs into the car.

"Leave us," she commanded the driver who had been waiting in the car for us. He looks to me for confirmation, and I nod. He leaves the engine running and the air conditioner chilling the car.

"I want to help you; if you take away this, I will help you."

"You will help me? Why?" I ask, and she throws her head back, releases a fake laugh and then looks at me. "What are you going to help me with?" I stayed as serious as I could, and when she saw that I was not playing around, she cleared her throat and shifted in her chair.

"I will tell you where Nirelle is, and you can go take her, but I want out of this mess." She hurriedly tries to make a deal with me, forgetting that even if she is spared, she would have to get into the mess that Enoch has created for himself at the end of the day.

"You know where she is? And you'd be willing to go against your husband to make me take down the article about how you treat your ex-husband?"

"I can handle Enoch," she said, but I saw fear in her eyes, and her fingers trembled a bit. I do not even in the slightest bit care what Enoch was going to do to her, but I want to ask because it felt a bit fun.

"You can handle him? Are you sure?"

"You can have Nirelle back; I just want that article off the internet. One article would start it, and before the end of the day, everyone is talking about it, and I can't bear to be looked at in such a way."

"But it is the truth."

"You all do not know what I have gone through." She slammed her fist into the headrest of the chair. "All you see now are the scars, and I had to cut myself open to get those scars."

"What the hell do you think you are doing? Writing a poem?" I ask, and her face morphs to embarrassment. "Okay then, I will take down the article, but you have to do something for me in exchange," I say, and she frowns.

"But I already..."

"Oh no. Even if you did not give her up to me, I can assure you that I would have found her anyway, so you have to do something different." She gulped and then nodded. She was really ready to do anything just so she could paint the bad guy. How wonderful!

"Okay, what do you want?"

"You have to do all you can to call off the marriages," she gasped and shook her head.

"I have no control over that," she stammered with fear. "You can't ask me to do that; that is like asking me to stake my life for you," she adds.

"I guess you aren't ready for this then," I said as I opened the door and stepped down. I opened her side of the door, and she turned to me with shock and fear.

"What are you doing?"

"GET OFF!" My voice is firm, and my eyes do not waver. "You have nothing to offer, so how dare you try to start a bargain?"

"I will do it," she said before I could go on.

It was easier than I thought to convince her. I was almost so sure she was going to take a few days to think about it and then come to me later. I didn't have a few days, so it was a good thing that she agreed. "I will take you there right now," she adds as she tries to pull the door shut. I step back and allow her to close the door. I motion to the driver, who moves into the car.

"Where do we have to go?" I ask when I am done with the seatbelt.

"The psychiatric clinic that her father is in," she said as he looked away.

"What?" I act as if I were unaware of the fact that she was there up until yesterday and that we were going to meet an empty tomb. It was all part of my plan. She did not hand Nirelle over, which meant that I could take down the article. I knew very well that there was no way she would have been able to stop the weddings from happening.

We arrive shortly at the clinic, and the director of the clinic is confused as to who to attend to. "Take me to the room," Yvette commanded, and the man moved with so much grace. He had been recommended for the position here by Yvette, and she had used him to continue all the other illegal activities.

"How have they been?" Yvette asked as if she were picking up puppies.

"Pretty quiet as usual," the man responded, and he was acting well. I had told him that Yvette was going down, and if he wanted to remain at his position here, all he had to do was put on a little show for her. The key in his hand jingled as he turned it in the keyhole. The door opened, and two strange people sat on opposite beds.

Yvette stepped in, and her eyes darted around the room. "Is this the wrong room?" She turned to the man, who frantically checked the door with confusion.

"It is the right room," he said, and she looked at him with her eyebrows up.

"But these are not... what happened to them?" She screamed at him as he stood there, also looking as confused as he could be.

"Yvette, what is happening?" I ask as I step in. "Didn't you say you were bringing me to Nirelle? What is going on?"

"I did not do anything," she cried in desperation and turned to the man standing there. "Are you going to do nothing? "Find them." The man hurried out of the room as her voice followed him. "They must be safe and sound."

"Oh, were you trying to double-play me?" I ask as I step out of the room. "I can't believe you did this. Why did you?" I ask with my eyes narrowed at her.

"She is supposed to be here." She pointed to the bed fearfully as her entire body trembled.

"I can't believe I wasted precious time coming here with you only to be deceived like this," I say with a frown and am ready to leave.

"No, wait!" She rushed at me and held my arm so I could not move. "They must be here somewhere," she said, obviously losing her mind trying to understand what was happening. "Just wait, the director will be here soon with..."

"Forget it." I take my hand out of hers and walk off. "Level two accomplished," I murmur as I step out of the hospital and right into my car.
