Chapter 32 32

Chapter 32 32
Chloe POV

We all stood still, Lacey’s army and mine, each side patiently waiting for the other to make the first move.

Lacey stood before me, her eyes wide and glimmering with anger. Beads of sweat formed on her forehead as her chest heaved. Then, in a jiffy, she slid her sword back into its sheath, and the rest of her men did the same. My people retreated, also.

“The game is over, Lacey,” I said. “You’ve lost this round.”

A smirk played on her lips, an angry one I recognized. “That’s a lie. I’d be back for you,” she said, pointing a finger at me. " Next time you won’t be so lucky, Chloe. I'd make sure of that.”

“Oh really?”

“Yes,” she growled. “This is not the end, sister, you’re only alive because this is a warning, I didn’t come here to fight!”

I scoffed, “You’re just afraid, if not you’d have attacked me, you’re not bold enough, Lacey, you’d never be, and that’s okay, we both know who’d win this fight.”

Her smirk faded instantly, and I could tell she was triggered by my words, I’d struck a nerve.

“Go home, it’s over!” I urged.

“It’s not, it’s far from over, dear sister,” I snarled, she looked around her once again before her gaze returned to mine. “Stay far away from Henry, we don’t want you in our lives any longer, he chose me, not you, it’s high time you respect that!”

“Then hold on to your leash tightly, because I don’t want him, and make sure you tell him not to show his face here or I fear you might be a widow soon,”

Lacey giggled in anger. “We’dsee about that!” With a quick signal to her men, she turned and rode off, her men followed suit and the only thing left was the dust rising off the ground, a reminder that she’d been here.
Lacey, the twin who made my life a living hell! The one who stole my mate!
I should be the one threatening her, not the other way around.
“Are you alright?” Antonio said, hurrying over to me, “I shouldn’t have let you walk away alone.”
“Nah, I’m hold, I was just picking some flowers, and besides, none of this isn’t any of your fault,” I said grabbing the basket filled with daisies and buttercup, he nods, gazing at the basket, then he plucks one putting it at the side of my hair, I almost blushed.
“This suits you so well,” he said with a smirk playing on his lips, and I rolled my eyes taking it off.
“Well, it’s not my style!”

“What do you think about Lacey showing up unannounced?” He asked
“I have no idea, but I think this is beyond what we think it is, yet, I don’t care, she knows I’d always win a fight.”

We began to walk towards where Alpha Cain stood giving instructions to his soldiers.
I felt Antonio glare at me, I can imagine his honey brown eyes scanning me, I hope he saw the confidence emanating from me. “You shouldn’t underestimate your sister, she seems desperate, and desperate people can be dangerous.”

“I don’t care,” I purred, facing him, “Let her be dangerous or fearful, I’d still defeat her, she knows that.”
“If you say so, princess.”
“Don’t you trust me?”

“I don’t think so,”
“I’m just trying to weigh the pros and cons,”
Pros and cons? I should be used to Antonio being rational yet I still felt I had so much power in my hands, I was the one treated with cruelty all my life, she shouldn’t have a say now.

Finally, we reached where Alpha Cain stood, he was alone now, his gaze filled with affection as he pulled me in a tight embrace.

He pulled away just enough to look at my face, “Chloe,”
“Alpha, I’m sorry I walked out on you, that was disrespectful!”
“No, it’s totally understandable, you had every right to walk out, Juanita was being annoying as always.”
I nodded, “So, did you agree with her?”

Cain paused for a few seconds before staring down at me, “Yes, I have her an option, she was free to visit occasionally if only she ended things with her human boyfriend.”
“And?”
“She refused.”
I scoffed, I could barely help myself, “She’d never change.”
He shook his head, pressing his lips together in a thin line. “I was a fool to think she’d ever come to her senses, I mean, I gave her a chance but she threw it away for a human, but you know this, Chloe, I’m glad I found you.”
He held my hands, looking into my eyes. He added, “No one can ever take that spot, the one you’ve filled, not even Juanita.”
“But she keeps planting seeds of doubt in your heart…”
“It’s not working.” He assured me and his words, which warmed me, made me feel a lot better, for once I felt seen, chosen, and loved.

Of all the people in my life, Alpha Cain had always been steady, only his influence was more than a hundred and I was glad to be chosen by him even though it made me a threat to the enemies.
I smiled weakly and he placed a hand on my shoulder, “ Get some rest, daughter," With that he walked away but Antonio remained.
“I’m okay Antonio, it’s fine you can leave, I’m not a child who needs babysitting!”

“Of course not, “ he said, circling me, his eyes on mine, and I smiled. I couldn’t understand what he was doing, he moved closer and I stiffened. He then pulled a flower from my ears inserting it at the side of my hair. “It suits you, you look pretty!”
“Thank you, Antonio, maybe I look pretty but then I was almost killed because I wasn’t wearing my battle clothes, I’d rather be ugly and alive, and trust me I’ve been there.”

A chuckle rolled off his soft and pink lips. “If you say so,”

Instantly my mind drifted to something I shouldn’t even be thinking about, someone, as I stared at the gates, there was a pool of blood formed on the ground almost clotting, it was the guard’s blood who had been stabbed by the old lady who’d escaped earlier. She was the one who stopped the fight from happening, she was a distraction.

“What’s on your mind?” Antonio asked as if he could read my mind.
“I feel there’s more to that old lady,” I mumbled under my breath, “The one who magically disappeared."

“What’s it about her?”
“She looks so familiar, it’s like I knew her!”
“Maybe you do, but it’s better you forget about her, she’s Lacey’s.”
“I know, but that even makes me more interested in her, still you are right, I don’t want more problems with Lacey, at least not yet.”
“That sounds wise.”
I smiled, yet the thought wouldn’t fade from my memory.
I’d find you, whoever you are.

The next morning I woke up in high spirits, I sat across Alpha Cain in the grand hall, staring at the fresh roasted lamb meat on my plate letting it cool down a little before taking a bite. Antonio was busy feasting on his, no one said a word.

All of a sudden, we heard a deep blare of horn from afar, I froze instantly, urgency surging through me, this only meant trouble ahead a sign to get prepared.
Suddenly the door burst wide open and two guards rushed in, their faces filled with fear, “My lord! It’s the witches! They’re at the main gate, they’re causing chaos!”

Alpha Cain rose immediately, “How many are they?”

“There are too many to count sir, they seem angry and powerful, they’re summoning a whirlwind that’s almost pushing open the main gates.”
“ Send word to our allies with a raven, we need their help now more than ever,” Alpha Cain stared at me, "Especially Henry Sander.”
I nodded, I understood the urgency.

It was getting closer, at the looks of things the witches had broken in, and for the first time, my heart began to race.

I stood, “This is my time, I just defend my people and lead this battle,”
“You will not face them alone, Antonio will assist you.”

Antonio sprang to his feet, his hand already on his sword, “As always, my lord!”
I rolled my eyes, “Father, I don’t need help.”
“I’m sure you do, child.”

We rushed into the courtyard where armies of the Blueblood were assembled all already, I walked around, observing every one of them.

“This is the battle we’ve awaited for so long, so prepare, we have a war to win!” I griped and they roared in unison, I smiled.

Antonio nodded in approval, “ This is no time to be scared, we only have to be angry, these witches have evaded our lands, but their magic can't work on us!”
“Aye!” The men roared back.

“Good, so, are you ready?”
“Aye!”
“Show no mercy!”
“Aye!”
I looked up at Alpha Cain who watched from the balcony with a proud smile on his face.

“For Blueblood!” I yelled.
“For Blueblood!” The warriors chorused.
