Chapter 31 31

Chapter 31 31
Lacey POV

“Seize the witch! She’s coming with us, “ I griped, a frown burning across my oval face.

Immediately the guards moved forward, binding the old hag to a carriage since she was too weak to walk.

Her tired and evil gaze wouldn’t leave mine but I didn’t care, I only cared about her gifts and what she’d meant earlier when she said she could help me defeat Laura.

How did she know my heart's desires? It was as if she could see into the future.

The mere thought of this made me so restless.

“I know you are interested, queen!” She said, as if she could read my mind, I tightened my grip on the bridle and turned away, “I’d deal with you when we return to the house but for now, i need to focus on my mission!”

“Aye!” My men chorused and I smiled, but it didn’t reach my eyes because my mind was also on one person, someone I dreaded and hated the most, my dearest sister, Chloe Blueblood.

It took ten minutes to arrive at the gates of the blue blood territory, my men flanked behind me as we hovered around the gate, no one was guarding the gates, that was weird. The gates was supposed to be heavily protected.

“I think it’s a trap, let’s take the back gate!” I commanded and at once we took a U-turn to the corner as we approached the back gate, I could smell the flowers wafting into my nostrils, there was a hundred percent chance I’d find Chloe there, after all, she’d always loved picking flowers since she was a child.

We burst the gates open with a huge wood and there she was standing right in front of me as if she was waiting for me.

She held a basket filled with baskets, her clothing was different, she wore a floral gown that made her seem peaceful, she wasn’t in her battle mood today, which was a good sign, I’d caught her off guard.

I raised her hand, telling my guards to halt until I said so.

Someone helped me down the horse and I smiled at her, “It’s nice to see you again sister, still picking flowers? You haven’t changed one bit,” I hissed, my tone laced with sarcasm.

She moved forward, unusually calm, “ And I’m glad to see you standing, the last time I saw you, you were in a deep slumber.”
I let out a small smile, “It was a trying time for me and my family, even though I never expected to make it out alive, I thought the moon goddess had finally called me home but she said my time wasn’t up, yet.”

She gave me a fleeting smile that disappeared as soon as it came, “Good!”
My smile died too, I was here for business not to exchange fake pleasantries.

“Let’s cut the chase, “ I said moving closer, my men positioned their hands on their swords protectively. “ I heard my husband and mate have been visiting often.”

She lifted a brow, “That’s really none of my business, I don’t care if he shows his face here or not!”

“Well, I don’t believe you,” I scowled, “Where is the Alpha? Your supposed father, I need to see him, he needs to know that the legitimate wife of Henry is here.”
But Chloe didn’t flinch, she stood her ground, she didn’t bulge, “I know that, Lacey, and I’m sure my father does too, he won’t be able to attend to you, he’s busy in a meeting but I would deliver your message, that’s if you have any.”
“I’m willing to wait till ‘this’ meeting ends!”
Suddenly her gaze landed on the old woman who sat on the carriage. I rolled my eyes. Why didn’t the old hag turn into a boy or something?

Chloe points at the woman, “And who is that?”
“Who?”

“The lanky woman behind you.”
I turned around and smiled, “Oh, she’s my maiden, is there a problem?”

Chloe’s eyes lingered on the woman for a few seconds before she shook her head, “No, there’s no problem, like I said, Alpha Cain won’t be able to attend to such… insignificant matters that don’t require urgency so I’d advise you to return to your house, to avoid bloodshed!”

I burst into loud uncontrollable laughter, and my guards joined me.

“Insignificant?” I repeated, “Give me one reason why and my men I shouldn’t slaughter the woman my husband can’t seem to stop visiting, after all, you’re completely unarmed, and you can’t outnumber us!”
Chloe remained rigid, “Then you’d only confirm my suspicions, that you were responsible for my accident, that you tried to kill me just because you wanted to have Henry all to yourself, an accusation you once denied!”

I swallowed hard, forcing a smile, I nodded, my lips slowly parted open but I had no words, so she was mad about Henry? That confirms my suspicions then, she still loves him, but she was right, if I killed her right now, I would only be confirming her suspicion. Just when I found my voice, a new voice cut in, making me go silent again.

“Aw, how sweet, the two estranged sisters reunite!”

Chloe and I turned at the same time, and a woman in her late twenties approached us, she was strangely dressed, and she had a wide smile on her heart-shaped face. I couldn’t even tell if it was genuine or fake.
“It feels nice to finally meet you, Queen Lacey,” she said Boeing curtly. “ I’m Juanita, biological daughter of Alpha Cain!”

Daughter? How come I’d never heard of her?

I forced a smile and extended my hand, “That’s nice, Juanita, I need to speak to your father.”
She took my hand, her grip strong almost making me wince in pain. “My father will speak to you soon, I’ve heard a lot about you, Luna, I heard how you stole your sister’s mate, that was badass!”

She snickered and I swallowed hard in shame, she then turned to Chloe and gave her a sign that indicated: My eyes are on you.

And just like that she stormed off into thin air.

Immediately I heard loud thuds of boots approaching me, my men and I brought our swords but Chloe remained rooted to where she stood.

Alpha Cain appeared, his men stood behind him, they were all armed, Chloe smiled in satisfaction but I didn’t back down even though I was the one outnumbered now.
“Alpha Cain, “I greeted, “I’m Luna Lacey.”
“I know who you are,” he said coldly.

“That’s good, this makes our conversation easy, I’m here for a serious matter!”
“Which is?”
“It’s about Alpha Henry, I’m sure you know him, he’s been acting strange lately, and I did some research,” I swallowed hard, faking a tear.
I cleaned the tear quickly,” He’s been chasing your daughter while still being married, you attend my child’s naming ceremony so you know he has a daughter,”
“What do you want?”
“All I ask is that my sister Laura stay far away from my husband!” I snarled.
His gaze hardened. “Firstly, there’s no Laura here, only Chloe, and it’s your husband who keeps coming back, pleading allegiance to the Blueblood territory, you should be speaking with him, not us.”
“I don’t care, all I know is that this is all Lau… Chloe’s fault!”
“How?” Chloe asked calmly.

“He can’t think for himself, that’s why he has me, his Luna, so I’m going to fight for what’s mine!”
“Really?”
“Yes, Chloe.”
“Then you also need to chain your dog firmer, I would never go back to my vomit so you can have my leftovers.”

“What did you just say?” I asked, my vision blurring for a second.

I didn’t wait for her to speak further immediately I pulled out my sword pointing it at her and she stepped back a little.

“How dare you?”

Alpha Cain and his men brought out their swords too, my men did the same.
“What are you waiting for? Strike me!” Chloe bellowed, but I didn’t move. I just stood there like a damn statue.
Of course, I wanted to stab her so bad, to finally win this battle we have fought since birth but something held me back.
Maybe it was fear of being killed by her people or maybe it was something else.

“Be careful what you wish for,” I snarled, my hands trembling as I held the sword.

“Isn’t that what you want? To kill me off, you’ve hated me my whole life, my death will make no difference to you!” Chloe whispered loud enough for me to hear.

I nod, smiling, “I don’t care what happens after killing you,”

“Maybe,” she purred, “but I doubt you can, look around you, archers are waiting for you to make a move.”

My jaw dropped, she was right, I was surrounded.

Suddenly a loud cry rang out from one of the guards in charge of securing the witch, he was stabbed, and he staggered backwards holding his chest, “The witch, she escaped!” he said before his body fell to the cold ground.
