Chapter 130 Mission's End
Chapter 130: Mission’s End
Sylvia's pov.
I struggled in their grip, finally breaking free from their arms and scrambling to my feet, an intense rage taking over as I tried to scan the surroundings desperately, sniffing the air for their scent, anything I could use to track that wolf down, but to no avail.
“What the hell is wrong with you?" I burst out. My pulse thundered in my ears as I glared at him.
It was none other than Isaac.
“I was trying to save you,” seeming a bit angry as well
Why the hell would he have to be angry, he just made me lose the one way we could get answers.
I chuckled mockingly, not helping the manner in which my nostrils twitched, “SAVE ME? FROM WHAT EXACTLY, BECAUSE THE ONLY THING I NEED SAVING FROM IS YOUR PRESENSE, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU EVEN HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE?” I was outright screaming now.
All I had wanted for the past few days was an answer to the numerous questions, and the little chance I could have gotten, he went ahead to swoop that away.
“Keep your voice down,” he threatened through gritted teeth, “You’ll draw attention to us.”
That's not my problem.
“If you weren't too busy betraying your pack with that bastard the entire night, you would have noticed the hunters in the woods, you're welcome.”
I scoffed, this was truly unbelievable, “I do know of the hunters, and who I am with is none of your business.”
We went back and forth, I didn't even notice Ezekiel was standing behind me a few distance away.
“Well it is my business because I AM YOUR ALPHA, and we are leaving this place right now,” he moved to grab my hand which I snatched away from him before he had the opportunity to.
Sadly.
Ezekiel moved to create distance between the both of us, “Look bro, this isn't the time nor the place for any of this,” Isaac grabbed Ezekiel's hands in that moment, disrupting the healing process from his earlier wounds which caused him to growl in pain.
Isaac tossed Ezekiel across the plaintiff.
It was my turn to step in between them, “What the hell is wrong with you?”
His presence here angered me to a level I didn't know I could reach.
Isaac glared at where Ezekiel laid before his eyes dropped to me, “He shouldn't interfere with what he does not understand, let's go.”
“Again, I am not going anywhere with you,” I reminded him and for the first time he seemed to be genuinely confused, perhaps finally clocking it that the alpha command didn't work on me but he didn't mention it.
“I'm not really surprised, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, does it?”
I clenched my jaw tight, glaring at him intently, “My father was not a traitor,” I wanted to say but it was no use, it's not like he hadn't heard that before.
His gaze shifted between Ezekiel and I, a blatant irritation written all over his face, “For your information, we are leaving the school.”
“What??” I jerked back in shock.
What did he mean by we were leaving the school?
“We are headed back to the pack house because our work here is done, so, if you insist on fraternizing with the enemy, be my guest.”
He cast one last look at the both of us before he disappeared into the night, leaving me with my unasked questions.
We were free to return to the pack.
I should have been happy about this news but for some reason, I wasn't. I felt not a shred of excitement, knowing this was what I prayed for for a while.
Ezekiel was behind me in no time, “We need to get out of here.”
“What about the wolf? We can get information from him, I know we can, something that would point us to what exactly was going on.”
“Ezekiel's expression tightened immediately, “Sylvia, no.”
“Yes.”
“He's gone.”
“You don't know that.”
I was already moving before he could argue further.
My heart pounded violently against my ribs as I pushed deeper into the trees, forcing myself to focus on the scents around me. The night air filled my lungs as I searched desperately for any trace of the wolf that had escaped.
“Sylvia.”
I ignored him.
“Sylvia, stop.”
I followed it through the underbrush, branches scraping against my clothes as frustration and desperation fueled every step.
Suddenly I stopped, “This is where it stops,” I crouched down, examining the disturbed ground beneath my feet.
There were signs of a struggle, multiple scents in the area. My jaw clenched, we are too late.
“Hunters,” I muttered bitterly under my breath. For some reason, they were always a step ahead of us, the one lead we had would disappear before we got any answers.
Ezekiel and I began our journey back to the school. For the first time since chasing the scent, I actually looked at him properly.
My eyes immediately landed on the blood staining his shirt.
The sight made my stomach twist, “Are you okay?”
Ezekiel glanced down at himself as though he had forgotten, “I'm fine, it's healed already, you don't have to worry.”
And so I didn't, my brain was occupied with everything and tonight was meant to make me forget.
Just for the night, and yet, it only added more questions to the mountain I had.
I knew Ezekiel wanted to talk about what Isaac said, but I wasn't in the mood at the moment, I was still trying to process it myself.
We arrived at the domes and Ezekiel slipped his hands into mine, “Don't think about it too much, we would find the answers we need, okay?”
I peered up at him through my lashes, losing hope but I didn't want him to see it, “Okay.”
He placed a chaste kiss on my forehead, wishing me goodnight and that was how what could have been a wonderful night ended terribly.
