Chapter 21 You need to be careful…
Vivian
“I’m almost there,” I said over the phone to Ally.
That was like the fifth time she was calling me in only ten minutes. Times like this make me wonder if she has the same time sense as the rest of the world.
We were supposed to meet and have lunch together, and I left the house on time but there was some traffic on the highway and I was held up. It isn’t like I’m late though, but Ally doesn’t have that patience.
If you’re meeting, and she gets there first, it doesn’t matter if your a second out, she gets anxious.
The first time she called me, I told her I was ten minutes away, so tell me why she has been calling me every two minutes since then.
As soon as the car stopped, I hurried out and then made my way inside the restaurant. I found her at our usual table and I dashed over to her.
“Took you long enough,” she let out while I rolled my eyes.
“Maybe if you weren’t harassing me with calls, I would have gotten here sooner.” I replied while she scoffed.
“Tell that to me when you’re the one driving. That reminds me, when are you getting your car from the mechanic shop?” She asked and my eyes immediately started wandering, looking for answers.
“One would think you don’t know what’s happening in my life right now? I can’t afford the repair so it’s just going to have to stay there for a while.” I chimed in.
“Come on, Viv, why are you being this way? You know you could ask me for help and I’d be so happy to do so. Why would you leave your car there when I can just settle the bill? I don’t like it at all. That’s why we are friends, we are meant to bell each other. That gets forfeited when we decide to move differently. I don’t care what you say, I’m paying for the repair and that’s it. You’re not going to change my mind.” She said firmly.
“I get you, Ally. I really do but this is my journey and I have to go through it alone. I promise I’ll sort it out soon, huh? But you can’t help me. I have to do it myself.” I chimed in.
“Are you sure?” She asked and I nodded.
“I’ve never been more sure my whole life.” I said firmly.
We went ahead and ordered food and drinks after which we went back to our small talks.
“So tell me, how is it going with you? How’s life with your roommate? Is he what we hope he is?” She asked while I smiled.
“Honestly, I’m not so round saying this because I was really rooting for him to turn out badly. Well, he proved me wrong in all way. I’ve never had a roommate before cut if I did, he would be the best one. That’s how good he is.” I stopped when I saw her rolling her eyes and I wondered why.
“Ohh really, you’re saying he’s better than me then because we used to live together.” She let out and I burst into laughter.
“Oh my goodness, you’re so unbelievable. Are you seriously comparing yourself to him right now? You’re like my sister and no one can ever take your place in my life. I never saw you as a roommate, maybe that’s why it didn’t occur to me. To me, I was living with my sister.” I let out and I saw her cheeks turn pink.
“So Brad is that good?” She asked and I nodded.
“He is. Can you believe he even makes me breakfast?” I retorted and she curved her brows.
“Really?”
“Yes really. And last night, I came home soaked from the rain on my way back from my worst nightmare of an interview.” I let out.
“Oh my, what happened? I didn’t know you’ve even started looking out fur job interviews.”
“Well, I have and…” I stopped when I realized I don’t even know the name of my masked man. He never mentioned it and I never asked.
“Wow, I can’t believe I don’t even know his name.” I finally said.
“Who?” Ally asked.
“Remember the other night that we went to that masked party. I told you I made out with a man but I ran off. Well, he found me and we’ve been talking for a while now.” I explained while her eyes got big.
“You two having been doing what now? How did he manage to find you when you didn’t give him any details about yourself?” She exclaimed and I knew how I would sound when I tell her that he refused to tell me based on the saying that a magician doesn’t reveal his tricks. She’s going to look at me like I’m crazy because that’s the only explanation for such response.
“I can’t believe this. Who are you and what have you done to my friend? You mean he told you that and you believed him. Please tell me you are not dating him already.” She let out and finally, I was happy I didn’t say yes to him. Ally would probably have my head right now.
“Come on, we are not. He asked me out though but I told him I’m not ready. It’s nothing serious, trust me. He’s just keeping my company and I love it. Besides, he got me that job interview even though it ended in a chaos. You’d scream if I told you what happened.” I replied while she sighed.
“Well, I believe you know what you’re doing, just be careful huh? You can’t dive into another heartbreak please.” She said with much concern.
“I won’t. I promise.” I affirmed.
“So back to the chef, I’m glad you two are getting along well.” She said and I nodded.
“I know right and he’s so intelligent too. Last night after I got home so disoriented, he calmed me down and that’s how we got talking. You know I used to think my breakup was the worse but when he told me about his experience. I immediately stopped feeling sorry for myself and then started feeling for him. He has gotten his heart broken several times and yet, he still believes in love and even on a quest to find true love.” I explained.
“Hmmmn… is that a love story I’m smelling in the air?” Ally taunted and I immediately got what she meant.
“You’re a clown for even thinking that’s possible. Brad and I are roommates, nothing is ever going to happen between us. And besides, we don’t even love each other.” I let out and she chuckled.
“And you know this because you’ve been inside him? How are you sure he doesn’t love you?” She quizzed and at first I tried to give it a second thought but I shook the thought off.
“I don’t need to be in his heart to know. He doesn’t and that’s it. I’m not going to let you out ideas in my head. Brad can fall in love but the masked guy can’t? Is that hypocrisy I smell in the air?” I teased too and she laughed.
“You know it’s different. I know Brad and you just testified how good of a man he is. You don’t even know the name of the other guy and you want me to root for him. Nah, I’m not doing that.” She replied and then said some more funny stuff about the guy that had us laughing so hard.
“Well, before I forget, Brad and I came up with an idea last night.” I let out and then proceeded to give her the full details.
“See, even heavens know you need him in your life!” She exclaimed.
“He said the same thing!” I exclaimed too.
“Am I surprised? Absolutely not! You really can’t make this things up!” She chimed in…
