"Am I really not dreaming?"
Lying on the bed, Scarlette held the marriage certificate above her head as she muttered to herself.
Her mind was in a total mess at that moment. She suddenly thought of the last sentence Marcellus had said to her when they were in the car.
He told her that he could give her anything she wished for, except his love.
In fact, to think about it, wasn't it the same for her as well?
Two years ago, after encountering that humiliating betrayal, she had lost her hopes in relationships and romance.
Scarlette even felt that she would never fall in love with anyone again.
Otherwise, she would not have gone on a blind date either.
The reason why they had gone on the blind date was that they were being honest about their needs. Neither of them had a wish for romance.
Marriage was only for outsiders to see and to prove that they were living a 'normal' life.
Thinking of this, Scarlette felt slightly relieved.
Although it wasn't within her expectations that she would get married to Marcellus, things were going according to her plans. There wouldn't be any feelings between them, only a partner to spend their lives with.
What was there for her to worry about then?
After comforting herself for a while, Scarlette pulled the quilt over her head and fell into a deep sleep.
It was already five o'clock in the evening when she woke up. Dusk had fallen, and the shimmers of golden sunlight fell on the top of her bed.
Scarlette rubbed her eyes groggily as she turned away from the light.
"You're Yeager, right? Come, drink some water and have some apples. I bought these fresh from the market this morning."
Just as Scarlette was still considering whether she should sleep a little while longer, Molly's enthusiastic voice sounded from outside and made Scarlette shiver.
Yeager? Drink water? Have some apples?
Was there a guest at their home?
Scarlette scratched her head and after a while, she abruptly remembered that Marcellus would be coming over for a visit.
The person Molly was talking to was Marcellus Yeager!
Scarlette dashed out of her room like a rocket. As soon as she stepped out of the room, she ran into Molly who was just about to knock on the door while holding a fruit tray.
Molly rolled her eyes at her uncourteous daughter. Then, she promptly changed her expression and put on a motherly smile as she spoke in a calm voice, "Scarlette, you came out at the right time. Yeager is here. Quickly go and talk to him."
Hearing her words, Scarlette's heart missed a beat. She subconsciously looked at the clock on the wall. It was pointing right at six.
He really did show up! And he was exceptionally punctual.
Scarlette smiled awkwardly and she had an urge to hide in her room. Nonetheless, Molly was quick-witted and she grabbed Scarlette's arm, dragging her to the living room to sit on the sofa before Marcellus.
"Both of you chat. I'm going to prepare dinner," Molly said with a smile and immediately stepped into the kitchen.
The atmosphere in the living room froze.
Scarlette sat stiffly. For a moment, she did not know what to do at all. She did not even know where to look. From time to time, she would glance at her toes and then at Marcellus.
Marcellus was dressed in a gray-white tracksuit, which made him appear calm and energetic. He looked more cordial in it than in the suit and tie he had worn during the day.
Did he purposely return home to change his clothes?
Scarlette's mind was distracted by her own thoughts again.
"Scarlette."
Marcellus opened his mouth and called her name, breaking the silence.
Scarlette raised her head and responded reflexively, "Mr. Yeager."
After that, Scarlette realized that it was somehow inappropriate. She had not told Marcellus that she was an employee of Yeager Group.
If she revealed her identity, would he find her to be scheming? Would he doubt that the blind date was part of her plans to get married to him?
In the blink of an eye, countless thoughts appeared in Scarlette's mind.
To her surprise, Marcellus did not pay any attention to her words at all and he continued to say, "Give me your hand."
Scarlette obediently reached out her right hand.
"Your left hand," Marcellus said.
Scarlette withdrew her right hand and extended her left hand with compliance.
Then, Marcellus took out a platinum ring and put it on her ring finger.
His movements were gentle and elegant.
Scarlette was startled and her heart started to pound wildly. She stared at the ring on her finger dazedly and could not speak.
When she peered at Marcellus, she noticed that he had a similar ring on his ring finger as well.
However, his fingers were long and smooth. The ring looked particularly beautiful on his finger.
"The size is just right." Marcellus nodded with satisfaction, feeling pleased with his good taste.
"I..." Scarlette was very agitated deep within her heart.
"I said that I will give you everything." He gazed at Scarlette as he clarified, "You can call me Marcellus from now on, and I will call you Scarlette."
He spoke in a gentle voice, but there was an undeniable firmness in his attitude.
"I..." Scarlette struggled to find her words. She tried to calm herself down and asked, "Isn't this too fast? We have just met and you don't know me well enough. Don't you think so?"
Her face flushed red as she finally said what she had been wanting to say.
In fact, she had nothing to worry about to be married to him. After all, she had nothing to lose.
But to Mr. Yeager, it was definitely a great loss!
The title of Mrs. Yeager was worth more than a truckload of diamonds. It was as if she had won the lottery!
"What do you mean?" Marcellus retorted as he raised his eyebrows slightly.
Scarlette pursed her lips and replied, "For example, you don't know my full name, my occupation, my university..."
"Your name is Scarlette Rowling. You're 24 years old and you graduated from the Management School of Julesburg University. You're currently working at Yeager Group. You had a boyfriend back in university who was from the School of Finance, and you both broke up after graduation..."
"Alright!" When she heard this, Scarlette hurriedly interrupted his words.
Upon hearing about her past relationship, Scarlette felt a little embarrassed and her face instantly turned red again.
However, Marcellus had answered her question calmly and solemnly.
Scarlette gulped silently. It seemed that he really knew her well.
But since he had known about this, would he be interested in knowing about her previous relationships? Would he misunderstand her?
After pondering about it for a while, Scarlette finally decided to give him an explanation. She took a deep breath before speaking softly, "He was my boyfriend in university. We both were quite innocent back then."
"We only held hands twice." Speaking of this, Scarlette was blushing furiously and even her ears went red.
Marcellus had never cared about this aspect. However, when he saw how serious Scarlette was when it came to this matter, he could not help but find that the young lady in front of him was adorable. With this newfound perception, the coldness he wore on his face diminished slightly.
