Chapter 3 You Are Not Ladylike At All

"Madam, Mr. Yeager will be here at 6 o'clock sharp."

After Scarlette got out of the car, Ethan informed her.

Scarlette lived in a shabby staff unit. When she got out of the luxurious car, she instantly attracted the attention of countless people.

Scarlette didn't have time to think too much about how Ethan knew that she lived here. She nodded at Ethan and then quickly ran away from the scene.

Scarlette went all the way up to the sixth floor in a flash. When she arrived at the door of her house, she was drained and breathless.

She was about to knock on the door when her mother, Molly Lanes, appeared behind her while holding a grocery basket.

"Scarlette, why are you in such a messy state? Can't you behave like a lady?" Molly opened the door and chided in displeasure.

Scarlette stuck out her tongue at Molly and quickly entered after the door was opened. As soon as she took off her shoes, she rushed into the living room and picked up a glass of water to quench her thirst.

Molly shook her head in disapproval and continued reproachfully, "Oh, how unmannerly of you. You are not ladylike at all!"

As Molly rambled on, she placed the basket in the kitchen and then came out while muttering, "When I was on my way back, I heard Helen say that she saw a young lady in our area getting out of a luxurious car! I wonder which family's daughter was that. What a lucky girl!"

With a guilty conscience, Scarlette replied in a whisper, "It was me."

"You? Please, do you think a rich man will fall for you?" Molly smiled disdainfully and added, "Only a noble lady matches a wealthy man. Scarlette, take a look at yourself in the mirror and you will know what kind of man you deserve."

Molly's disbelief and hurtful words rendered Scarlette speechless.

Molly Lanes and Marco Rowling were both university lecturers. As their daughter, Scarlette was considered to have been born into a family of scholars.

As for the matter of finding a partner for Scarlette, the Rowling family only wanted her to be with a man from a background similar to theirs. They had never thought about forcing her to marry a rich man and entering a wealthy family.

Besides, they didn't want it to happen to Scarlette either. After all, it was not easy to be the madam of a rich and powerful family.

Scarlette also understood her parents' thoughts. If she told Molly that she had married into a rich family and that the family aforementioned was the richest among the rich, Molly would faint from the shocking news.

"By the way, how was your date today?" Molly came over and sat down on the sofa, looking like she was going to judge Scarlette.

Molly was a retiree. Apart from attending dancing classes, she would also go to the hospital to do some volunteer jobs.

It was Molly who had asked Scarlette to go out on a blind date with the grandson of Carol Lewis, an old lady whom she had met at the hospital.

"Mom, where did you get to know this person?" Scarlette questioned as she sat down on the sofa next to Molly.

"He's Carol's grandson. I heard that he's already 30 years old yet he doesn't have a girlfriend because he is always busy with work. I've seen his photos and he looks quite decent," Molly talked about Marcellus with a slight smile on her face. Apparently, she was very satisfied with that man.

Scarlette bit her lip and observed her mother's expression. She could tell that Molly was unaware of his real identity.

"I'm asking you a question. How did it go?" Molly rolled her eyes at Scarlette, who was in a daze.

Scarlette bit her lip and nodded as she answered perfunctorily, "H-He's quite decent."

She was thinking about whether she should tell Molly about her marriage.

"Well, good to hear. You can give it a shot. You'll get to know him after a while." After saying that, Molly stood up and went to the kitchen, ready to wash the vegetables she had just bought.

When Molly was about to enter the kitchen, Scarlette rushed over and tugged at Molly's sleeve, asking, "Mom, where is Dad? Is he coming back for dinner tonight?"

"Yes. What's the matter?" Molly asked.

Scarlette shook her head, then nodded again. Finally, she whispered, "Well, he's coming over for dinner later."

She hesitantly decided she should inform Molly that Marcellus was coming over that night. As for her marriage, she would wait for Marco to return so that she would have him to protect her if things were to take a bad turn.

"He?" Molly didn't understand who Scarlette was referring to at first, but when she saw her daughter's blushing face, realization instantly dawned on her.

"That's great!" Molly took a glance at the vegetables in the basket and immediately walked to the porch. She changed her shoes and said, "I'll go buy some fish and meat then."

Before Scarlette could react, the door was opened and then closed again. Molly had already gone out.

After Molly left, Scarlette finally breathed a sigh of relief. She returned to her room, closed the door, and carefully took out the marriage certificate from her pocket.
