Chapter 12
Anabel's POV
For a moment, I thought I had hearing problems until Jasper repeated himself again.
“What? You fell in love with this piece of shit?” Alec's voice was calm, but couldn't be more alarming.
“You heard me right, Alec. I love her, and I'm here to save her.”
I heard him more clearly this time, and could bet I wasn't dreaming or hallucinating.
“Well, that's none of my business. If you want to save her, you have to pay off her debts.”
“How much is it?”
“Just a penny of $800.” A smirk played on his lips as he spoke.
“No!” I cried out, and all eyes fell on me. “I'm only owing you $500.” I snapped.
Alec walked to me and slapped me hard across the face, pointing a finger at me.
“Watch it, tiny girl. You are two months overdue, and you suddenly forgot about what is called interest?”
“Hey, Alec. That was wrong of you to lay your hand on a woman.”
“This is a debtor and until you pay for her freedom, I can do whatever I want with her.” He turned to him.
Jasper dipped his hand in the inner pocket of his suit and handed one of Alec's men a sum of $1000.
“Let her go now!” Jasper roared as his face turned red.
“You didn't have to do that.” I said as Jasper and I walked together toward my house.
“You're welcome?” He raised a brow.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. Of course, thank you for what you did. I really appreciate it.” I said in a low tone as I thought about Alpha Kaye.
He walked me to the front of my house and made to leave when I stopped him.
“Beta Jasper?”
“Yes?” He answered and turned to me.
“Did Alpha Kaye send you to help me?”
“No, I did that on my will.” He responded with a smile.
“Okay!” I swallowed hard. “And about what you said back there, is that true?” I asked slowly with my gaze halfway to the floor.
“About loving you?” He asked and I nodded.
“Yes, I mean all I said back there. It might be a charm you used on me.” He smiled shyly and left without looking back.
A smile played on my lips subconsciously as I stood there and watched him walk away.
I walked into the house, shut the door and walked to the window. Opened the window and looked up at Alpha Kaye's room, but there seemed to be no traces of him.
This broke my heart; I thought he was in love with me and was slowly falling for him too.
Alpha Kaye's POV.
Her screams still echoes in my head and regardless of how much I tried to shake it off, it kept coming. I wished I could help her, but I would rather not get myself involved with Alec; he's quite dangerous.
“Maybe if I can send her some money later, that should be able to solve whatever problem she has with Alec.”
I walked out of the study and went to my room, my heart was clouded with sadness each time I thought about her.
Tired and exhausted from the day's work, I laid on my bed and tried to get a nap, but I went way beyond the nap. I nodded off into a deep sleep.
The next morning, I woke up, feeling a sharp ache in my back. I got out of bed and was fast to got to the window, I thought of seeing her first. But she was still not there.
A frustrated huff escaped my lips as I turned my gaze away from the window. It's a new day and I better get back to work.
I grabbed my phone from the table beside the bed and dialed Jasper's number, he picked on the second attempt.
“Hey, Jasper. How are you doing this morning?”
“I'm fine, Alpha Kaye. How was your night?” He asked formally.
“I would like to ask a favor of you.”
“Anything you want, Kaye. Always at your service.”
“There's this girl who lives behind the mansion, she was taken by Alec's men yesterday. I want you to go there and settle whatever debt she's owing him.”
“You didn't hear?” He asked, his voice very alarming.
“Hear what?” Curiosity and fear of something bad happening to her crept into my voice.
“She had been released since yesterday. I guess she found a way to pay him off.”
“Oh! That's such a relief, then.”
“If I may ask, why are you so worried about her?”
“It's nothing, Jasper.”
“Okay, Alpha Kaye. I'm on my way to the human world now. I'll feed you back on the outcome.”
“Hey, Jasper. Why are you being like this? Fine! I apologize for the way I reacted yesterday. I didn't mean to, and you know it.”
“What is it you want?” His tone, more like a friend.
“There! That's what I want. I want you to talk to me as your friend, not as your Alpha.”
“Then, you should also learn how to talk to a friend.”
“Of course I will.” I chuckled.
“And be careful out there.”
“I'll be counting on you to come save my ass when I get caught, buddy.” He responded and we both chuckled.
I ended the call.
I looked at the time across the top left of my phone; it was almost 9:30 am. Time for the council meeting.
I dashed into the bathroom, hurried my dressing and retreated from the room. Guards and maids bowed in respect as I walked toward the conference room.
The conference has always been a noise one that ended with arguments and issues yet to unfold. Thinking about another day with them, gives me goosebumps.
As I approached the door, it was unusually quiet, and no guards were seen around. I flung open the door, but what I was shocked me, even as the Alpha of the Pack.
Killing all my council members was no way to approach me!
