Just leave me alone
Just leave me alone
Hillary's POV
My heart cried out in many possible ways. I crawled from the side of the road to a safer part. Breathing heavily and drowning in shock. Mr Trent is definitely a psychopath. He just attempted murder. He's crazy. I continued to sob. What exactly have I done to deserve this? I picked up my feet and headed back to the booth. I dodged faces in order to take my bag from the bus and run away. I can't stand it anymore. If my life is at stake because of him, then I'll have to quit this job. I ran away, but caught a glimpse of Travis. He should probably hire another assistant.
I immediately took a cab back to my house. I walked in hopelessly and locked my door.
What's wrong with me?
What's wrong with everyone against Travis and I.
It's not just fair.
“This doesn't make sense!” I screamed, pushing the polished little table away.
I sat on the floor to think.
“Just quit. Stay far away from your boyfriend.” I repeated but then protested.
“Just tell him the truth. He'll understand. Tell him everything.”
I wanted to pick my phone to make my decision but considering those threats, I'm only putting my life in stake. I'm tired of everything. I'm scared, I'm lonely here, empty and bored without Travis. I wish I could spill everything out to Travis but on second thought, I'm still scared for Travis. His father was a man with power and money and packed humanity. Though, last I checked, Travis is way richer than his father but …..his father is my latest nightmare. For the past few days, I haven't slept well. I've been attacked by him even in my dreams.
I curled myself up on bed, hugging the pillows. I don't even care what role I'm supposed to play, the campaign shit, project overseer, but I can't handle all these anymore. I'm fed up.
My phone buzzed and I sat upright, it was Travis calling. I wiped my tears and answered.
“Hello, where are you? Did you go somewhere?” He was interrogative.
I sniffed, pursed my lips so I wouldn't cry more and then he'll turn it superman and fly here within the next one second.
“Hello, baby?”
Your baby is enduring bullshit, if only you knew. I wiped my tears again.
“Hello? Babe?”
“H..ey.” my voice was broken and I was shaking, still left in shock from earlier.
“Where are you? You just disappeared and now we need you …you can't…..” he stopped, I knew he was trying to talk to me to play my office role well without trying to sound too rude or hurt me.
“You can't just leave work just like that. It's um, becoming a habit…”
I stayed quiet but tears were still falling.
“Hey, what's up?”
“I'm sorry, I…..I had to leave. I'm not really good. I'm kinda sick. I'm sick.” I just came up with an excusable excuse.
“What? Really? What happened?”
I could already imagine how worried he would be right now. He'd go take me to a doctor or something.
“What happened to you?” Travis asked, for the second time.
“I had to run home, I'm very Ill.”
“I'm so sorry about that, Hey, you should have told me before leaving. I'll make sure you're safe and assign Marcus to take you home, ensure he takes you to a hospital.”
I sighed. Travis….he cared a lot about me.
“ I'm fine.”
“What exactly is wrong with you?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? Nothing happened and you left?”.
“No, something happened. But I'm just saying you don't need to worry about me. I'm safe.”
“What kind of a boyfriend does that make me, if I can't worry about you, don't interest myself in you…”
His words touched me deep.
“Just tell me, so immediately I'm done, I'll know the type of medicine to buy.”
“No, Travis. Don't come here.” I rushed. “I don't mean…don't come. I mean , I've already had something to take. I'm fine. So you shouldn't worry. Besides, I wanna ask for your permission. I need a break.”
The line went silent.
“Hello?, Hello?” I stared at the screen. Still there.
“Why do you mean you want a break? So this is it? You're ending us.” Travis had started ranting till I corrected him, he misquoted me.
“No, no. I don't mean relationship break. I meant, break from work. I feel so unstructured and down and tired and messed up but I swear I'm fine. Just a little break will do. You hire any other person to replace me. I don't mind.”
My chest heaved.
“Hold on, I'll be coming to your place later.”
“No, I don't want to stress you. Just stay where you are.”
“You're avoiding me?”
I shut my eyes, knowing it was the truth. “Never.” I replied.
“Listen ….”
He was about to say something but I heard Elena's voice from the line .
Come on. Leave whatever you're doing. This particular one is the fun part.
Right.
“You know, I know you're busy and occupied and stuff….I'll hang up now so you do your thing.”
“Hold up….”
I tapped on the hang up icon and muted my phone. Punching and taking out my anger on the pillow.
What if I loved Travis in secret? Can we work that way? No. His Dad would definitely find out.
I lay my head down to rest, hungry but not ready to eat anything. I just remained in the same position for about an hour before I slept off.
I woke up again to hear my name and thumping of knuckles on my door. I checked my phone.
20 missed calls.
Travis must have been outside for a while. If only I had unmuted my phone.
I stepped out to open the door and he marched in. He was still in his cooperate wear. Left without a suit, which made him sexier.
“What is going on with you?” His voice was loud and he sounded extremely worried.
