Chapter 21 Solitary Confinement
Genesis's POV
When I woke up again, I was back in my own room.
I looked down to check my condition. All my wounds had been properly treated. The family doctor had clearly been here.
I felt thirsty and saw water on the nightstand. I instinctively reached for it.
But the moment I moved, my whole body felt like it was being stabbed by hundreds of needles. The pain was excruciating.
I sucked in a sharp breath, unable even to cry out in pain.
Just then, Susan pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing me awake, she was overjoyed. "Thank God, you're finally awake!"
She hurried forward and helped me with the water glass on the table. "Did you want water? Jordan and the others are all worried about you. They told me to notify them as soon as you woke up."
I lowered my eyes and obediently drank a glass of water.
They probably weren't worried about me, but about the relationship between the Martinez and Nelson families.
"I'll go call them in right now." Susan took back the glass and walked out happily.
She might be happy that I was finally getting attention from the family, but I knew it wasn't that simple.
Soon, Jordan and Christian came in, followed by Savannah with a dark expression. Seeing my battered appearance, a flash of schadenfreude crossed Savannah's eyes.
I tried to sit up despite the pain. Jordan waved his hand. "No need, just stay lying down."
I shook my head and looked to Susan for help.
Susan immediately came forward to help me sit up against the soft pillows.
"Sofia's family sent a hundred thousand dollars as compensation and promised she would transfer to another school and never appear in front of you again." Jordan pushed a check toward me. "They're downstairs wanting to apologize to you in person. Do you want to see them?"
I shook my head and typed on my phone: \[No need, I'll follow your opinion.\]
I lowered my head, hiding the mockery in my eyes.
If Jordan really wanted to get revenge for me, he would never have specifically brought my adoptive parents here, much less let those people into the Martinez mansion.
In his view, this result should be the best for me, and it showed his tolerance and magnanimity.
I should comply with his wishes and obediently accept this compensation.
"Don't worry, if you're not satisfied, I'll definitely get justice for you." Jordan added.
I shook my head and took the check.
Sure enough, after seeing me accept the check, Jordan smiled with satisfaction. "You really are a kind and sensible child. Don't worry, I'll have them compensate you with an additional car, so you'll be more convenient getting to and from school."
I naturally agreed.
Jordan's suggestion wasn't bad either. Previously, the family driver only drove Maria. Even though we went to the same school, she wouldn't allow him to pick us both up.
Now with a car, I would indeed be more free.
After Jordan left, Christian also came forward to show concern. "You did well. Having a reputation for kindness in our circle will benefit you in the future."
My expression grew slightly tense. It seemed he hadn't given up on the idea of sending me into an arranged marriage.
I nodded casually and gave a few perfunctory responses.
Savannah crossed her arms and sneered mockingly. "You really are just like your bitch mother, only knowing how to play pitiful to gain others' sympathy. A hundred thousand dollars is enough to shut you up. You're just as cheap as your mother."
I lowered my eyes and didn't respond to her words.
If I would have gotten angry at what she said in the beginning, now I was completely numb.
Seeing no reaction from me, Savannah pursed her lips in boredom and turned to leave.
The room finally quieted down.
In the short ten minutes since I'd woken up, I felt more exhausted than when I was injured.
It seemed like many people cared about me, but all of them combined might not be as genuine as one maid's concern for me.
How ironic.
I closed my eyes wearily and dozed off again.
I don't know how much time passed, but in my half-asleep state, I suddenly felt someone patting my face.
I opened my eyes groggily and was shocked to discover someone standing at my bedside with a gun!
I opened my mouth in terror, but before I could make a sound, someone covered it tightly.
"Don't scream! It's me." A low male voice spoke. My tense heart suddenly relaxed, and I collapsed weakly on the bed. Only then did I realize many of my wounds had reopened and hurt even more.
Eli, this lunatic! What did he want to do in the middle of the night instead of sleeping!
I wasn't killed by Sofia and her gang, but I was going to be scared to death by him!
I blinked and nodded at him. Only then did Eli slowly release me.
\[I'm just mute, I won't scream.\] I irritably handed my phone to Eli, indicating that everything he'd just done was pointless.
Eli looked embarrassed for a moment.
I reached for the bedside lamp, planning to turn it on, but Eli grabbed my wrist. "No need for lights. I'm just here to ask you a few things."
"Did you willingly let Sofia go?" In the darkness, Eli's voice carried a hint of hoarseness, with a bewitching quality.
So he came just to ask this question? Was he too bored?!
I pressed my lips together and nodded.
Eli scoffed. "You went through all this trouble to create such a big incident, even calculating the principal into it, just for this hundred thousand dollars?"
He reached out and poked my wound, making me shiver slightly from the pain.
"Suffering so many injuries, just to drive Sofia out of school? Was it worth it?"
Worth it?
Of course it was worth it.
I wasn't surprised that Eli knew I had orchestrated all of this. After all, from what I knew of him, he wasn't just the playboy the outside world thought he was. His scheming and cunning ran much deeper than people imagined.
Even Christian hadn't gotten the better of him.
But he'd been the Martinez family's precious youngest son since childhood. How could he understand the feeling of being bullied everywhere and having to calculate everything?
A hundred thousand dollars was already the best outcome. At least Sofia couldn't appear to bully me anymore, and others would think twice about the consequences before trying to hurt me.
That was enough.
Seeing no reaction from me, Eli laughed mockingly. "What a coward."
With that, he turned and left my room.
