Chapter 22 Deflecting the Tension
Genesis's POV
Did Eli have some kind of mental illness?
Running to my room in the middle of the night just to ask me a ridiculous question, then call me a coward?
I yanked the blanket up and lay back down.
Before I could even cover myself with the blanket, that magnetic voice drifted up again. "You're just going to sleep like that?"
I snapped my eyes open.
What the hell did he want?!
I turned my head and stared at him expressionlessly. Only then did Eli speak slowly. "You really have nothing to say to me? If I leave now and you beg me later, I won't help you."
After two rounds of this nonsense, my wounds were already starting to throb with pain. I had no desire to ask him for help with anything.
The only thing I wanted was for him to leave immediately.
So I waved my hand, indicating I had nothing to ask of him.
Eli snorted coldly and walked out, slamming the door hard behind him.
Hearing that loud bang, my only thought before falling asleep was that he must have been bored today and decided to come mess with me for entertainment.
Early the next morning, the family doctor came to change my bandages and give me an IV.
Susan watched my wounds from the side, quietly wiping away tears. "Don't worry, the master specifically ordered me to take care of you these few days. I'll make sure you recover quickly!"
After the family doctor left, she quietly leaned close to me. "I specially went to check the kitchen. Even your food has become fancy and rich! Things are finally looking up!"
All these years, Susan had always secretly saved some good food for me in the kitchen, afraid I would be treated too harshly.
Now seeing Jordan pay attention to me, she was happier than if she'd received benefits herself.
"Yes, thank you, Susan." I agreed with her, though I felt nothing but disdain inside.
Jordan had used my situation to swindle a diamond mine from Sofia's family. The mine reportedly had a high yield rate and very pure diamonds. The net income alone was around 500 million dollars.
But all I got was a hundred thousand dollars and a car.
So forget about improving food quality. Even if he gave me much more, I deserved it.
Watching Susan's delighted expression, I didn't tell her these depressing facts. It was nice to let her stay simply happy.
Originally Susan wanted to stay overnight to take care of me, but thinking of Eli's habit of randomly barging into my room, I refused her offer.
If she saw Eli enter my room, she'd probably die of fright.
After I went to sleep that night, I indeed felt that familiar patting sensation again.
I resignedly sat up and took out my phone: \[What exactly do you want to do? Why don't you just say it directly?\]
If this happened every night, I was afraid I wouldn't die from Sofia's bullying but from Eli's torment instead.
"Hurry up and get ready. Come out with me!" Eli commanded directly.
Honestly, I didn't want to go through another late-night adventure with Eli, especially with my wounds still hurting.
\[My injuries make it inconvenient to move around. How about we wait until I'm better?\] I typed tentatively, only to see Eli sneer and somehow produce a wheelchair from nowhere.
Great. I could see his determination to take me out.
I had no choice but to endure the pain and put on clothes, slowly moving to the edge of the bed.
"Why are you so troublesome?" Eli complained, then suddenly leaned down and scooped me up in a princess carry.
The feeling of being lifted made me instinctively wrap my arms around Eli's neck. For a moment we were extremely close, and I could even smell that familiar faint fragrance on him.
I blinked, and Eli had already placed me in the wheelchair.
He coughed lightly and quickly grabbed the wheelchair handles. "Only someone as useless as you would get yourself this beaten up trying to get revenge."
That strange emotion was instantly shattered, and I returned to my expressionless state.
After going downstairs, I discovered Walker was already waiting by the roadside with the car.
Eli skillfully lifted me into the back seat before getting in himself.
\[Where are we going?\] I asked curiously.
He wouldn't go through all this trouble in the middle of the night just for fun, would he?
Eli glanced at me. "That day when you begged me to let you go, didn't you promise to accompany me somewhere? You'll know when we get there."
Memories of that day when I almost got caught in his crossfire came flooding back, and my face flushed with heat. I didn't dare ask any more questions.
Only at this moment did I belatedly realize how dangerous it was to be with Eli, yet I seemed to lack the proper wariness I should have toward him.
This was a bad habit that needed changing.
Under cover of darkness, the car stopped in front of an abandoned factory.
Eli pushed my wheelchair into the factory. The moment the lights turned on, I instinctively squinted.
A series of muffled groans echoed through the space.
After my eyes adjusted to the light, I looked toward the source of the groaning and saw a huge spinning wheel!
A person was tied to the center of the wheel. They seemed very panicked and struggled even more violently when they saw us enter.
I hadn't expected Eli to bring me to see such a scene. I frowned in disgust.
I tried to turn the wheelchair wheels to back away, but Eli, positioned right behind me, blocked my path. He gripped my wheelchair handles tightly and pushed me forward.
\[I don't want to look!\] I frantically showed Eli my phone, but he ignored my refusal and continued pushing me forward.
"That day you promised you'd do anything," Eli whispered in my ear, blowing lightly. "Or would you rather leave here and let me finish what I couldn't complete that day?"
This was a blatant threat!
My hands finally released the wheels, and I pressed my lips together, allowing Eli to slowly push me toward the spinning wheel.
Only when I got close to the wheel did I realize that the person tied to its center was none other than Sofia!
Sofia no longer had her haughty rich girl demeanor. She was pathetically bound to the large wheel, spread out like a pancake.
Seeing me approach, her eyes filled with venomous hatred as she made muffled roaring sounds.
Unfortunately, her voice couldn't escape. Someone had stuffed a rag in her mouth, making her look utterly miserable.
I curiously looked back at Eli, surprised he would bring Sofia here.
Eli raised an eyebrow and had someone behind him bring forward a tray.
"Do you know how to play Russian roulette?" Eli casually picked up something from the tray and weighed it in his hand. Only then did I realize the tray was full of sharpened fruit knives!
I stared at Eli in shock.
