Chapter 88 Chapter Eighty-Eight
Chapter 88 Chapter Eighty-Eight
Keira
Weird can't begin to describe how I felt. From the crazy dizziness that hit me numerous times, to the nauseous feeling swirling inside of me.
When I woke up, Kaelan wasn't with me. Rushing to the bathroom, I splashed water on my face. The cool liquid helped a deal.
Finding my way downstairs, I made for the kitchen. Maya flashed me a warm smile, and bowed. “Greetings Luna princess.”
I nodded. “Can you please make me coffee?”
“Right away.” She twirled round, and set to work.
“Just a cube of sugar.” I added.
In less than five minutes, she walked up to me with a cup in hand. I flashed her a grateful smile as I accepted the cup from her. “Thank you.”
I lifted the cup to my lips. The moment the smell reached my nose, I was already retching my stomach into the sink.
“Are you okay?” An alarmed Maya asked.
Geez. Do I fucking look okay?
I was confused. These symptoms could be likened to a pregnant woman, but not for me. I was on pills, every time Kaelan and I had sex, I made sure to take one.
So why on earth… could it be the poison acting up?
Realization hit me immediately, and I froze. Fuck…
Since I wasn't pregnant, then it has to be the poison. “Luna princess?”
I looked at Maya. “You look pale, it's as if… it's–” Through my blurry vision, I saw her reach out for me, holding me tight.
I blinked through what was left of my consciousness, but in the end, darkness engulfed me.
…
Waking up, I blinked through the bright light in the room.
It took me some minutes before I realized I fainted. Again.
I sighed. At this rate, I might die sooner than what was left of my twelve days.
With a hand propped against my banging head, I slowly forced myself in a sitting position, and glanced round the room.
It was empty.
That meant Kaelan was yet to know I lost consciousness, otherwise, he would be fussing all over me by now.
Not wanting to move an inch for fear of increasing the ache digging at my brains, I sat still with my eyes shut close.
Just as I was breathing through the pain, the door pushed open. My eyes snapped open.
Kaelan stood at the doorway, a worried expression on his face as he took me in.
Nervously, my tongue darts out to wet my lips. “I’m fine,” I murmured as he reached out for a hug burrowing as close to me as he could get. “It’s merely one of those fainting sessions.” I added.
“Fuck.” He simply cursed as he deepened the hug. “Are you okay?”
I nodded against his back.
Other than the banging migraine threatening to rip my head off, I felt okay.
When he finally let me go, he stared deep into my eyes. “Baby, I have some questions for you, and I really want you to answer truthfully.”
I nodded weakly. “Okay.”
He tilted his head to the side. “Come in.” He ordered.
Just as I faced the door, Ryan appeared. Oh, I didn't realize he was there all along. “Hello, Luna princess.”
“Keira would do.” I flashed him a weak smile.
He chuckled, and shook his head. “Someone might chop my head if I were to really do that.”
Turning serious, he asked, “Can you remember exactly when you started to lose consciousness?”
A slight frown formed on my forehead as I tried hard to recall the time it started happening.
“It’s okay baby,” Kaelan scooted closer, and took my hand into his, “Take it slow.” He said, his voice soft, and gentle.
I shook my head despite the heavy pain resting behind my head just a little beneath the middle. “I think I remember something.”
“What is it?” Ryan urged. I could almost taste the excitement in his voice.
“Well, I don't think it would be helpful though,” I licked my bottom lip. “I remember losing consciousness on the day we got married.”
“How many days did it last?” Ryan asked when I remained quiet
“Three.” I responded.
“After that, what else did you begin to experience?”
I was quiet for a long while, with a huge frown etched on my face. “That was when I started to suffer from a cold breakout, after that the collapse became frequent.”
“I can't believe even Damien dared not tell me about this.”
“I made him swear into secrecy.” It was my fault for hiding it away from him, I can't bear to have Damien suffer for my deeds.
Suddenly recalling something, I said, “The cold attack has never lasted for more than ten minutes. And…” I hesitated, but continued anyway.
“Right before I fainted, I woke up to heavy waves of dizziness, followed by body weakness, and a strong urge to puke. In summary, I experienced the early symptoms of pregnancies, but I am on pills, so I don't think I am pregnant. Could it also be the work of the poison?”
“I doubt so.” Ryan muttered. He looked quite confused. “However my research, and what you just told me doesn't tally at all. If you started to experience all these right from when you got married, it should be at least three months since you've been poisoned–” He sucked in a sharp breath, and glanced at Kaelan.
“She should be dead by now.” Kaelan said. His voice was dangerously low. “Does that mean–”
“Exactly. In most cases, if a pregnant woman is poised with foxglove, she won't die, rather the child will take the blow, while in few cases, only the person who possesses a white wolf, in other words a pure body can fight against the foxglove.”
“But she just said she is on pills.”
“Yes. Which means she has a pure body. Otherwise, I'm afraid she would long be dead by now.”
I blinked through my confusion. Pregnancy? Pure body? What the hell.
I have never changed to my wolf form, I tried once back at Stormfang pack, the extremely painful process made me not even want to think about it.
And back then, my wolf form wasn't pure white but a mixture of black and white. What the hell was Ryan going on about?
Speaking of pure body, could this have any meaning to what one of the kingmakers said about ‘beauty and purity?’
I was still lost in my thoughts when I felt a hand rubbing on my arm. “Hey, are you okay?”
Making a mental note to change to my wolf form later, I returned Kaelan's worried look with a small smile.
I swallowed hard. “Yeah. I think so, I just…” I pushed a lump down my throat. “It’s quite overwhelming to know I no longer have twelve days left.” I chuckled. “I know I should be happy, but the overwhelming feeling is making me have weird kinds of emotions.”
“I understand.” He pulled me into his chest. I let my eyes fall close, as I breathed his soothing smell in. “Now, it's time to put the bastards back into their places.” His voice was laced with steel.
“Of course, the twelve days that were supposed to be used to prepare for my funeral should be used to track their asses down.”
“Did you not promise not to leave me?” He was frowning when he let go of me. “You intended to break your promise in the first place, right?”
“I wouldn't dare...” I started saying. “But at some point, I decided it wasn't all that bad to see you wrestle with a grim reaper to bring me back.”
He brought his palm to my face. Instantly, a huge frown formed on my face. “Blood?” I asked the obvious.
“Oh,” He scratched at the back of his neck. “It’s not mine.” He murmured.
“I know it isn't.” I huffed rather annoyed that he didn't bother washing some bastard's blood off his hands before trying to touch me. “Whose blood is it?” I queried, unable to mask the irritation in my voice.
“Liyana.”
“Liyana? Is she dead?” I hoped she was.
To my dismay, Kaelan shook his head. “Not far from it though. Ryan and I were in the midst of torturing confession out of her when Maya came to report of your collapse.”
“Calling the doctor was supposed to be the first thought to come to her.”
“She was in the midst of conducting surgery for one of my sick men.” He explained.
“Speaking of confession, did you get anything useful from her?”
He grinned. “Quite a lot.” His gaze darkened as he continued talking. “And now, I think I have a rough idea who we are up against. I find it quite amusing that every single attack on me be it with the made on you after you came here were all distractions. Piecing everything together, I finally understand who the bastard I am up against is.”
“Since you've gotten all you wanted from her, are you not going to end her pathetic life already?”
He shook his head. “Soon, after she tells me one more thing.”
I wanted to ask another question, but the throbbing pain in my head made it hard to form any more words. As if
sensing my condition. Kaelan moved to me, and helped me lie down. He pressed a soft kiss to my lips. “Don’t worry about anything and rest up baby, I will be back once I am finished with Liyana.”
I nodded against the dizziness hovering over my head.
