Chapter 87 Chapter Eighty- Seven
Chapter 87 Chapter Eighty- Seven
Kaelan
“What the fuck?” Ryan's jaw dropped the moment I let him in on Keira's condition. “But so far, there hasn't been any signs to show she's been poisoned.” he pointed out.
“Right.” I took a casual sip from my whiskey. “Because the bastard infused foxglove into her.”
“Fuck.” His expression morphed from shock to horror. “Foxglove?”
I nodded before taking another sip.
“There is no cure for it, not any that I've heard of.” He said like I didn't know.
“Then we'd have to make one up.”
Ryan shook his head. “Not sorry to say, but are you crazy?”
I glared at him. “Killing you won't shake anything from my body.”
“Sadly, you love me more than you hate me so you won't. Listen,” He straightened, and leaned forward. His eyes searched mine for a moment before he continued, “Alpha Keira is your fated mate, emotionally, and romantically speaking, you can't bear to stay a day without her, scrap that… you'd do anything for her without hesitation.”
“I’m quite glad you know.” I muttered beneath my breath.”
He ignored me. “However, logically speaking, you can't just spring up one certain day, and decide to try and make up an antidote for poison when you don't even know anything about poison.”
“Did I say I was going to concoct one myself?” I snapped.
He kept quiet. “Since you've known me, I don't think you've ever seen me act rashly. I am ruthless, and dangerous but I am not irrational.” Tipping my head backwards, I emptied the last drop of alcohol down my throat.
“Change of plans, we are not going to stay back like some sitting ducks. We go all out. The sooner I get to bring these bastards down, the faster I can tend to my wife.”
Keira is my top priority. But there was no way she would have my full attention, care and support when these bastards kept threatening me, and now… her.
I shut my eyes tight, and tried to breathe down the jabs at my chest.
I didn't miss the teasing beneath his words when he said, “Just yesterday, I almost thought you were going to offer your head on a platter, you have no idea how excited I am about the change of plans.”
I snorted. “You are beginning to make the idea of replacing you grow stronger.”
He laughed. “Other than Alpha Keira, no one can take my place in your heart.”
“You wish.”
“Still on the topic about Alpha Keira, when did she tell you her cold breakout started, and did she tell you when she started to lose consciousness?”
I opened my eyes. Ryan was looking at me, his lips pursed together. He always did that when he realized something was amiss. “What, you figured something out?”
He shook his head. “Not really. Did she perhaps tell you anything.”
“Well, she only told me she fainted a total of seven times, as for the time she started to experience the cold,” I sighed. “She didn't say a word about it.
“A total of seven times…” He sucked a sharp breath. “That means she isn't in much of a danger–”
“Doctor Lustre said otherwise though.” I cut him off calmly. “She’s a doctor, your line of work differs, you kill deserving bastards , she saves the lives of the undeserving. Between the both of you, whose words should I go with?”
He shrugged. “I might not be a doctor, but I know stuff about poison… my secrets.” He quickly added when I narrowed my eyes at him.
He scratched the back of his head awkwardly, with a look of embarrassment, he said, “I just happen to do research about poisons during my free time, from all the attacks you suffered, ranging from hired assassins, staged accidents, sniper hitmen down to the very least but dangerous one… poison.” He smacked at his bottom lip. “I can't just sit back and do nothing, so I decided to start researching, and knowing their antidote beforehand, that way, if anyone were brazen enough to try and kill you through poison, much time won't be wasted before you are given the antidote.”
“That doesn't mean I won't fire your ass.” I chuckled. “Thanks for looking out for me.”
“Your grateful words don't mean you won't fire my ass.” He sent my joke back.
“Maybe,” I shook my head. “If your next words don't provoke me, I might just let you go.”
He chuckled and then a serious expression fell over his face. “If we are going all out, we need to arrange all the puzzles we've managed to pin together.”
I nodded in agreement. “And that means I need to have a chitchat with our lovely prisoner, her previous injuries must have healed by now.” I dropped the empty glass I didn't realize I was still holding onto then I stood up. “Will be back in an hour.” I muttered.
“You need help?” He asked halfway close to the door. I faced him. With a hopeful look, he added. “Like torturing the confessions out of her.”
“Yeah. I could do with some help, but allow me to prep her first.”
“Sure.” He answered.
He knew I hated torturing women. I prefer to pull the bullet straight in-between the eyes. However, in few cases where I tortured confessions from some female prisoners, I simply kept it straight by gouging off their eyes, cutting off their arms among the rest.
With him coming down with me, I wouldn't need to break much sweat.
“You might want to smile a little, darling Liyana.” I said as I slipped my hand down my pocket to pull out my phone. The smile on my face showed no effort to hide my hatred.
Liyana glared at me through her partially opened right eye. I was quite satisfied with her new look, just a few orders from Ryan and she was beaten beyond recognition. “Fuck you.” She spat.
“Unfortunately, I prefer to have my wife fuck me.” I said with a smirk.
Ryan chuckled.
Idiot.
Liyana sneered. “You could just kill me already, taking my photos won't help in your little boring search.”
“Who said so?” Signaling to a guard to bring me a chair, I turned my attention back on Liyana. She looked quite tough on the outside, but the exhaustion, and pain in her eyes told me all I needed to know… it was only a matter of time before I broke into her defense.
“From what you just said, I gather that you have never sent a message to your boss directly before, and that means for you to send a message to your boss, you need to pass it through several of your accomplices before it gets to the top, right?”
She didn't respond, but I caught a light shudder from her right before she snorted. “Just kill me and get this done, and over with already.”
Tilting my head to the side, I handed my phone to Ryan. “Second time you are requesting me to kill you, it's hard to believe you are this desperate to die by my hands.” Once I was seated, I pressed my hands on my thighs, leaned closer to the prisoner, and looked straight into her eyes. “You ready to talk yet?”
She managed to raise her head up, her dark brown hair a miserable reddish colour; courtesy of the blood from her broken head. I have to hand it over to Ryan boys; they are damn good at their job.
“Fuck…you.” She spat.
Letting out a sigh, I shook my head. At the pace things were going, it's likely I won't get anything from her. She's obviously a loyal hound. Very well then, let's see how long you'd last.
Standing up, I lunged forward, my foot connecting with her stomach. Her body tensed, and she tried so hard to keep from crying hard, but could only manage to hold two kicks. The third had her releasing a frustrated painful yelp.
With her wrists, and ankles cuffed, she couldn't curl to soothe the pain in her stomach and that gave me enough space to hit her till I was half satisfied… or at least till when Ryan held me back.
“She’d really die if you don't slow down.” He warned.
I released a heavy breath, before taking a step back. “Now, I will start asking my questions. You have two options, answer truthfully, or I force you to answer.”
She spat out a mouthful of blood. “Go. Fuck. Yourself.”
“If I am to advise you,” I continued calmly. “I will tell you to pick the former. My question is simple. You were among the three kingmakers, and according to Shadowmoon pack history, they have lived for centuries long. Amelia, Lucy, Liyana,” I paused to see if I had her attention. Satisfied to see her looking at me, a shocked expression on her face, I continued talking. “What exactly happened to the real Liyana?”
Everywhere went dead silent.
No one was expecting that question, the fake Liyana included. She might have succeeded in fooling us all back then, however, now that we know she was against me, the story has changed.
“I don't know what you are talking about.” She hissed once she recovered from her shock.
I flashed her a cold smile. “Does it look like I am joking around?” I sent a kick straight to her stomach. “I won't ask for the third time…”
“What…” Punch. “Did…” Punch. “You…” Punch. “Do…” Punch. “To…” Punch. “The…” Punch. “Real…” Punch. “Liyana?”
She let out a painful groan, her eyes glistened with impending tears, the pain threatened to overwhelm her yet she didn't look like she was about to give in—I expected this much.
Retreating two steps, I stalked towards a large table at the other end of the room. I swiped a knife from the bunch of scattered torturing tools.
I raised the knife up, and examined it then I nodded with satisfaction. Perfect for a slash.
I walked back to the prisoner, while it was unnecessary, I still said, “The sooner you decide to start talking, the faster I will put your misery to an end.”
My steps were slow as I stalked around her, “Between the three kingmakers, A blood oath was done, it isn't an ordinary blood oath but one that binds the three of you together. The door in the castle with three palm prints, do you remember it?” I stopped walking once I was standing in front of her again.
It was quick… I would have missed it if I glanced at her face a second later. The horrified look on her face. As quick as it came, she covered it up.
I smirked. “Did I jolt a memory?”
She was quiet.
With a straight flick of my hand forward, I sent the knife digging deep into her thigh. Her painful cry filled the air leaving the stale taste of blood on the back of my tongue. “You are not the real Liyana, how can you activate the palm?”
No response.
I shook my head. “Seems I've been going too soft on you.”
“Alpha Kaelan!”
I turned to my friend. “Allow me.” He requested, his voice devoid of emotions. Without hesitation, I nodded and returned to my seat.
Maybe Ryan might do a better job than me. Not maybe… he will.
“You see, unlike Alpha Kaelan, I am brutal when torturing someone, for your sake, behave, or I'd render you completely useless–”
“Whatever.” She cut him off.
Ryan chuckled. Reaching for the knife still stuck deep inside her thigh, he dragged it out. “I know more than a few spots on the human body once attacked can make a full grown man weep… much less a lady.”
Moving to the back, he leaned down, and held the slightly loosen cuff up with his other hand, then he pressed the bloodied knife to her Achilles tendon. I watched as he painstakingly sliced into her flesh.
At first, everywhere was quiet, the only sound from the cuff Ryan was holding in place, then her painful howls came echoing through the room.
A smile touched my lips. Torturing a woman might be a little too hard for me, the case was different with Ryan.
“Uncuff her ankles, and leave us.” He ordered the only guard in the room before coming to join me. “Allow her to dangle in the air a little, she will confess soon.” He said.
With furrowed brows, I watched Liyana dangle back and forth. I don't understand how this was going to make her confess.
She was simply moving front and back, if she was strung up, it would have been a whole different case.
“P-please.” A rather weak Liyana gasped .
Ryan exchanged glances with me,and chuckled softly.
“Ready to talk now?” he asked. His voice was cold, and unfeeling.
“I will.” She broke into a sob. “Please.”
