Chapter 89 Chapter Eighty-Nine
Chapter 89 Chapter Eighty-Nine
Kaelan
“Do you think this will work?”
I exhaled, and turned sharply. Ryan was looking at me. “We just have to try.” I looked away, fixing my gaze on the motionless Liyana, I added, “Besides we don't have any reason to keep her alive when she's already confessed, dumping her in an open place is a declaration of war, one my opponent will immediately hold on to.”
“What a fucker he is, I can believe he's been attacking you from the shadows for years just to avenge his sister. Firstly, there was Cassandra playing the sister role, now, a brother.” He blew a breath. “Interesting.”
I chuckled. “I didn't know Liam Michael had any sister, neither did Ayana ever tell me she had siblings. Besides, Liyana had nothing to gain if she lied, she knew she wouldn't make it out of the castle alive.”
“I wasn't doubting her.” He muttered in defense.
“Sure sounded like you do.”
The fucker wasn’t trying to avenge Ayana. If that was the case, he would have attacked long ago. He knew I had something worth tossing his revenge aside. And since the only person who was likely among the closest to getting information about it was dead, it was only a matter of time until he came knocking. A matter of time before the official war starts.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips. A war I would emerge victorious.
“Dump her body in the alley close to fox realm.” I ordered. Facing Ryan, I said, “Let’s go.”
“We have to be prepared.”
“It’d be foolishness on our end to declare war when we are not prepared at all, all the men are well prepared and on standby. An order is what is left.”
I nodded. “Good.”
“You look exhausted.” Ryan stated the obvious right before we turned a corner leading to my study. “When last did you have a good rest?” He asked when I didn't utter a word.
“There is no use resting when I can't even get an hour long sleep.” I snapped angrily. As long as I close my eyes, the images will pop up. The only time I get to escape my nightmares was when I am asleep with Keira in my arms, or anytime I fantasized about fucking her.
“Right. I'm sorry.”
“Add extra shadow guards around Keira.” I instructed as I weaved my way towards my seat.
“Remember something?”
I shook my head as I tried to push down the worry slithering its way up my chest. “I told you Liyana said something disturbing right?”
“About killing anyone close to you.”
I nodded. “I can't take the risk, Keira is a skilled fighter who can protect herself, but she's currently healing, I can't take chances at all.
“She wasn't healing when you dispatched shadow guards all over her castle.” He said grinning from ear to ear.
“Get out.”
He chuckled. “I will after I am done reporting.” Without giving me the chance to ask what the report was all about, he continued. “Just as you speculated, Liam is working with Marienne.”
“Fuck.” I slammed my fists down hard against the study door pushing it open. “Has she made any moves yet?” I walked over to my seat. I didn't sit down immediately.
“No. She's quiet on her end.” Ryan said.
“Quiet huh.” Leaning forward, I crossed my arms, and placed them down on the huge table. “Lucian is Marienne and Damien's adopted son right?”
“And that means he doesn't have the Archibald blood in him,” Ryan murmured, stealing the words right off my mouth. “Damien wouldn't betray Alpha Keira for them, and Marienne isn't an Archibald either…”
“Liam is out of the story as well.”
“Yes,” Ryan moved away from where he had been leaning against the door, and walked up to me. He pulled the only chair aside mine, and sat down. “Alpha Keira was poisoned right the moment she stepped foot into the Mooncrest castle, she might have been on high alert and missed the first attempt, but she wasn't lucky enough to escape the second. Marienne knows she won't stand a chance if she were to openly attack Alpha Keira so she opted for poison.
“You think Marienne is behind this?” I cut him off. As much as I hated the bitch, I wasn't one to act without evidence. I wouldn't regret killing her, but it won’t be fun taking her life for a crime she had no hand in.
As if she was ever innocent.
He looked at me. “Don’t underestimate the bitch, she can do anything to get what she wants. You, and I know that.”
I stretched backwards. “Keira’s body fought the foxglove for three months, and that means she wasn't poisoned here.”
“Stop repeating what you already know.”
“Shut up.” I scowled. “Private investigator or not, I don't mind killing you.”
Ryan smiled. “You won't kill your friend then, I am so relieved to hear that.”
I scowled at him again, which made him raise both hands up signaling his apology. Putting on a serious expression, he said, “Now we know Marienne is the culprit behind the poison in your wife's body. The only reason why is to kill her, but according to the law, only royalty can sit on the throne,” He blew out a tired breath. “There is absolutely no way on earth Marienne is trying to do that right?”
“Liam is the walking definition of greedy, he can do exactly that.” I affirmed with a slight frown etched on my face.
“That brings up the harming bullshit Liyana spoke of.”
I held up my hand. “Wait a moment. Something isn't right.”
“Obviously.” Ryan grumbled.
“Only royalty gets to sit on the throne, Keira, and Damien are both royalties–”
“Fuck.” Ryan cursed as realization sunk in. “I swear, l will fucking kill Liam with my barehands.”
“That makes the two of us.”
“Three, I think.” My head snapped in the direction of the voice. Keira stood at the study entrance, arms crossed, with a huge frown stretching across her face.
Here we go.
“Discussing how to kick asses without me?”
It wasn't a question but I nodded anyway. “I was going to tell you.”
She glared at me. “You could have invited me along and spare yourself the stress.” I took in her dress as she skittered towards me. She was dressed in a black sweatpants, with a black t-shirt on top. Her hair was packed up in a tight ponytail.
Is that make-up on her face? Geez, she looks so damn beautiful.
She stopped beside me, lifted to her toes, and pressed a kiss to my mouth. “How much did you hear?”
She scrunched her nose as if she was trying to think, then she shook her head slowly. “Maybe from Liam Michael.”
“Keira!”
“Fine. Everything.” She lowered herself down on my chair. “But no matter how hard I try to think about it, I don't think I know, or have offended Liam Michael. So why the fuck does he want my throne?”
“We are equally wondering why.” My tone was hard. “He is fighting the both of us at the same fucking time.”
“At least we know why he is after Keira.”Ryan murmured. “Coming against you is a real bad idea, he wouldn't take the risk unless you have something worth the risk.”
Yeah. Because indeed I have something worth the risk.
“Could it be–”
“Ryan,” I said, cutting her off. “Allow us some privacy.” He nodded but didn't move immediately until I snapped at him. “Go on.”
Keira had a scowl when I met her gaze. “He doesn't know about what you have stashed away.”
It wasn't a question but I nodded anyway. I dusted imaginary dust off the edge of the table, then sat down, and spread my legs open. Leaning forward, I grabbed at the chair Keira sat on, a little push to the side, and she was facing me directly. “Why did you not tell him, still hard on the trust issue stuff?” The soft tone to her voice did no justice to the frown on her face.
I sighed. “I can't go on telling everyone about it.”
She scoffed. “But you told me, should I be happy that you trust me?”
I said nothing, instead I leaned down, and pressed my hand down on either side of the chair armrest. “Why are you angry?” My eyes didn't look away as I waited for her response.
She seemed to be making a real unnecessary guess over this.
“I am not angry.” She bit out.
A chuckle rose up my throat. “Last I checked, scowling is quite the opposite of a happy face, care to explain why a happy person would prefer to have a huge scowl on her face?” I leaned further down until our faces were just inches apart. “Come on baby, tell me, what are you thinking?”
“I–I” She shut her eyes, and shifted uncomfortably on the chair. She opened her eyes as quickly as she closed them. “I am just worried–” She trailed off, and that had me frowning.
“What are you worried about?”
She tried to look away which had me saying, “Look at me baby, that way I will know if you try to lie your way out.”
She obliged. “I am just worried if it is truly as I am thinking.” Her tongue darted out, and wet her lips.
Realization sunk in almost immediately. “That I lied to you just so you would stay here with me?” My voice was low, dangerously low.
A growl tore through my throat when she nodded. “The fuck.” I hissed the same time I yanked her off the chair to my body.
She gasped at the sudden movement, but didn't try to free herself. Not like she would stand a chance.
“What the fuck were you thinking baby?” I breathed into her hair.
“That what I would help you find was all lies, but simply another tactic to keep me down with you.” Her words were barely above a whisper. “Because I don't see why Ryan, who is the closest thing to your best friend, wouldn't know about something that a lot of people are fighting over, trying to kill you even. Don't blame me.”
I lessened my grip on her, and pushed her backwards, just enough for her to look at me. “I didn't lie baby.” I paused, and took my time to think my decision over. Should I really tell her about it now?
“Is that all?” She blinked through her lashes. “Are you done talking?” She asked again when I remained silent.
I let out a sharp breath.
Fuck it.
I was still going to tell her at the end of the day. It didn't matter the time, better now or never.
“Liam is also after it.”
“You once said it is something powerful. I can't quite remember your exact words though, that should explain why Liam is also after it.”
“Well,” I let her go, and ran a quick finger through my hair. “Maybe I lied about that part. Not quite though.”
“At this point,” She pinned me with a glare. “Other than the fact that Marienne who is vying for the throne poisoned me, and is working with this Liam bastard who is also trying to destroy you, I don't even know what's real and what's not.”
“Hey,” I moved my hand up to the side of her neck. “Look at me.” I demanded.
“No. I don't want to.”
I smiled. “You either do as I requested, or I swear baby, I will bend you over, and fuck you raw, and hard as your punishment.”
I didn't miss the red spreading on her cheeks. She looked up quickly. I swiped my thumb against her skin. “Good girl.”
“You need to work on your patience baby, you didn't even let me finish talking.”
“It’s not like you are going to say something nice, you just–”
She was still talking, when I dragged her forward, and pressed my lips down to her parted mouth. She stilled as if it was our first kiss together.
I let go of her neck, and cupped the sides of her jaw holding her in place as I ran a quick line on her bottom lip. She refused to reciprocate the kiss.
Proving stubborn huh... let's see how long you can hold it up.
Reaching down for the swell of her breasts, I rubbed at both mounds gently giving her time to get used to my touch. A gasp rose up her throat when I gave both breasts a squeeze. I nodded with pure satisfaction.
Just what I needed.
I thrust my tongue into her mouth delving as far as I could. I gave her breast another squeeze as I devoured her mouth without mercy, kissing away every negative thought growing inside her little head.
By the time I pulled away, we were both breathless, and gasping for air.
My hand moved around her waist pulling her closer. “I don't mind getting us naked, and fucking you all day long, but I think I should rather explain, and clear things out. I don't like how you are thinking such negative bullshit.”
She nodded breathlessly. “Sounds okay.”
“What I have in my possession–”
“Wait, In your possession?” She was almost shouting.
“Patience Keira.”
“It is the key to making the true heir of Mooncrest pack last longer on the throne.”
“So…” Keira rubbed at the side of her neck. “Are you trying to say if I have it with me, no one will dare go against me?” She was now smiling.
I nodded. “You can say so. Liam is after it to destroy it.”
Her lips thinned into a straight line, making way for an angry scowl. “I really want to strangle this man into tiny bits.”
I chuckled and tightened my hold around her waist. “You will baby, that's after I am done torturing the thoughts of trying to take over my woman's kingdom away from his faulty shitty brain.”
“Great.”
“Does this mean we are good?” I murmured.
“Yeah.” She shrugged. “I wasn't angry anyway, I was rather ready to kick your ass.”
I laughed. “It would have been so much fun, who knows…” I winked at her while she rolled her eyes.
“Don’t fucking say that.”
“It’s a nice thing my dick can't talk, i would be in a great position to explain how your pussy walls clench tight right become you
come hard on my dick.”
She slapped my chest while trying hard with little success to hide her burning cheeks from me. “Shut up.”
“Kiss me then.”
She ignored me. “Are you not going to tell Ryan about it, cut the crap he's your damn friend.” Her expression turned serious. “He deserves to know.” She added.
“Yeah, I just didn't want to bother him with my problems.”
“That is a funny excuse, Alpha king.” Ryan walked in, a calm expression marred his features. “I’m hurt though,” He pressed a palm to his chest feigning hurt.
“I didn't call you in.” I didn't want him to hear about it in this manner. I wanted to tell him about it in my own time, he knew there was something I was hiding from him but he had never for once probed me into telling him.
But unfortunately… he found out, and it was just in the manner I didn't anticipate.
“Right. My apologies for interrupting, but we have a problem.”
I frowned. “What problem?”
