CHAPTER 25. Untitled
"Maybe not as planned, but it's a lead."
As she made her way to his quarters, she was stopped by some guards, but she resisted their force and tried to make her way in by force, but she was knocked down with her dish all over the ground, and she was dragged out on the floor into the corner of the quarter for other maids to take care of her.
Alpha Mykel was in his room relaxing; he was pleased to have seen Kitara and actually chatted with her. All his worries escalated until he smelled blood outside. Blood is a regular thing on the war front, but in his quarters it is not since he is not involved. He got out of his room and looked around, then in the distance he saw one of his guards dragging what seemed to be a lady figure. He walked towards them, and after careful consideration, he discovered it was Kitara. Kitara lay on the floor, her dish spilled all over, and her dress was stained with food and blood. Alpha Mykel quickly rushed to her side, asking the guards what happened. They explained that Kitara had tried to force her way into his quarters, and when they stopped her, she resisted and ended up falling and injuring herself.
Alpha Mykel was furious; he couldn't believe his guards would treat someone so badly, especially Kitara, who had done nothing wrong. He immediately ordered them to leave and called for a medic to come and attend to Kitara's injuries.
The medic arrived and checked Kitara's injuries; luckily, they were not too serious, but she still needed some time to rest and recover. Alpha Mykel decided to personally take care of her and had her moved to a guest room in his quarters where he could keep an eye on her and ensure she received the best treatment.
As Kitara lay in bed recovering, Alpha Mykel couldn't help but feel guilty for what had happened to her. He wants to go out to prepare something for her. Alpha Mykel returned to Kitara's room with the meal, and they had a pleasant conversation over dinner. He apologized for what happened to her and promised to ensure that she was treated with respect and dignity in the palace. Kitara was grateful for his kindness and understanding, and they developed a closer relationship. Kitara was pleased that they were getting close; although things didn't go as she had planned, she enjoyed the tide as she kept her revenge in her heart. It was bedtime. Kitara fears she might have her usual dream and that she might react to it because of her dream; she hopes she just doesn't mention her mother's name if she does.
She tried to stay awake all night, but she eventually drifted into her terrifying dream land. She started shaking from her dream. Mykel was in her room at the time, taking his time to see how she was fairing. He then noticed how she was behaving. He wanted to reach out for the medics, but that might disturb other people in the walls, so he decided to take care of her himself.
Kitara was tossing and turning in her sleep, her face contorted in fear and anxiety. Her dreams were always the same—a recurring nightmare that had haunted her since childhood. In the dream, she was back in her village, surrounded by the ruins of her burned home and her mother's lifeless body lying in front of her.
She woke up with a start, her heart racing, and her breathing ragged. She was sweating profusely, her nightgown drenched in sweat. She sat up in bed, trying to catch her breath, and that's when she noticed Alpha Mykel by her bedside. He was holding a glass of water in his hand and had a concerned look on his face.
"Are you alright, Kitara?" he asked, handing her the glass of water. "You were having a nightmare."
Kitara took the glass from him and drank the water, grateful for the cool liquid that soothed her parched throat. She looked at him and saw the concern in his eyes. For a moment, she forgot all her hatred towards him and felt a sense of gratitude towards him.
"Thank you," she whispered, handing him back the glass.
"You don't have to thank me. I couldn't just leave you here alone in this state," Alpha Mykel said, putting the glass down on the bedside table.
Kitara looked down at her hands, feeling ashamed of her vulnerability. She didn't like the idea of anyone seeing her like this, let alone Alpha Mykel.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like this," she said softly, avoiding his gaze.
"It's alright, Kitara. We all have our weaknesses and vulnerabilities," he replied, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
Kitara looked up at him, surprised at his words. She had always thought of him as a heartless man, but his concern and compassion towards her were making her think otherwise, but she knew he was only hiding his beast beneath.
"Thank you," she said again, this time with a small smile on her lips.
Alpha smiled and asked, "Will you like some coffee?" He said, "Yeah, where is it, please?" Kitara said as she tried to get out of bed.
Kitara watched as "the doctor" left the room, feeling a sense of unease wash over her. His response to her offer of making him coffee seemed a bit too defensive, and she couldn't help but wonder if there was something more to it. Was he really just a doctor, or could he be the killer they were all searching for?
As she mulled over these thoughts, Kitara couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about the whole situation. She knew she had to be careful around "the doctor", and keep a close eye on his movements and behavior.
With a deep breath, Kitara resolved to stay vigilant and do whatever it takes to uncover the truth. She wasn't going to let anyone else fall victim to the killer's wrath, and she was determined to bring them to justice, no matter what it takes.
Alpha Mykel returned with two mugs of coffee and handed one over to Kitara. Kitara sipped the hot coffee as Mykel was fixated on her, "Let i forget who is Evelyn, ...."
