Chapter 128 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT

Chapter 128 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-EIGHT
AIDEN
The cool evening air blew against my face as I sat outside a restaurant surrounded by my men.
I like places like this.
Expensive, not loud, and very secure.
A glass of wine which I barely touched sat on the table.
I couldn’t concentrate because my mind was else where.
Chloe.
She has been discharged and she is currently at home counting the days till she puts to bed.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy that she is well.
I’m happy that she and the baby are both doing okay.
Is just that things have been super awkward between us since we got back from the hospital.
We have been living like strangers.
She was mad at me I could tell so I tried on several occasions to initiate a conversation between us but she wasn’t having it.
It was always…
‘Aiden….I don’t have anything to tell you’
‘Aiden……I don’t have time for this’
I have tried. I have given her enough space to clear her mind and stop hating me.
It didn’t work though, giving her time kind of made everything worse.
I hate feeling powerless, I hate that I don’t know how to get her to talk to me.
Our child would come soon and I still don’t know how I’m going to protect her from blood hounding monsters that would want to leap on her as soon as she arrives.
My precious little one.
It still feels like a big dream. Soon, I’m going to have someone who will depend on me for survival.
Gosh…..it was a huge responsibility.
I gasped and reached for the glass of wine.
‘What about Shirley? What am I going to do with her?’ I asked myself.
I have been ignoring her numerous calls and messages because I wanted to focus solely on Chloe now.
Then there was that son of a bitch Lucien. He is the reason all this is happening, he is the reason why Chloe was taken to the hospital.
His coming made everything worse.
I’m sure you all will agree me with me on this, when situations doesn’t really favor us we always find who to blame.
In this case, the scape goat was Lucien.
Since I wanted to teach him a huge lesson, I attacked his warehouse, burnt his shipments to the ground and killed his men that were on site.
It was satisfying to watch everything go up in flames.
Since he thinks he can go around and run his mouth, I have to teach him to remember who he is dealing with.
One of my men approached me holding a box.
I looked up ‘What is it?’
He held the box up ‘This was left for you, Boss’
I blinked ‘By who?’
‘No idea Boss. The sender didn’t leave any details, and it was one of the waiters that gave it to me saying that someone told her to give it to you.’
I eyed the box curiously.
Opening it was a bad idea, it might have a bomb or something incriminating.
‘I shouldn’t open it’ I told myself and yet I was too curious to know what’s inside that I grabbed the box from him.
I untied the ribbon and pushed the lid aside.
Everything stopped as soon as I saw what was inside the box.
It was a shoe, a shoe I remember so well because I got it for my unborn child.
It was covered in blood…..fresh blood.
I gulped.
There was a note covered partially in blood that read ‘You can’t save them both. You don’t know what you are up against. I will make your life a living hell’
I froze.
Read the note over and over again and was terrified.
Whoever sent this over to me got into my house, slipped through my guards and maids, got into the nursery and took my baby’s shoe to threaten me.
The house isn’t safe.
Chloe isn’t safe.
This has to be Lucien’s doing, he is pissed that I destroyed his shipments and this is just a retaliation.
Or am I wrong?
Lucien can be quite inhuman but if he wants to threaten me, he would do it to my face and not by sending a box.
Maybe he is just toying with me, there is no other explanation.
I scanned the restaurant quickly to see if I would see something or someone that looked out of place but no everything looked normal.
I turned to my men ‘Find out who sent this. Ask the waiters, they must have the description of the person who left this box’
‘Okay Boss’
I grabbed my phone and quickly dialed Chloe’s number.
It rang a couple of times.
‘Just pick up Chloe’ I murmured impatiently.
She picked after the fifth ring ‘Hello’
I sighed in relief ‘Hey, where are you?’
‘At home. Why?’
‘Are you alone?’
‘What kind of question is that?’ she snapped.
‘Just answer the question!!!’
‘Not when you are talking to me like that’ she fired back.
‘You know what, just stay in your room and lock your door firmly. I’m coming home’
Her breath hitched ‘Why? What’s going on?’
‘I will explain when I get home. For now, just do as I say.’
