Chapter 127 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN
ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN
TESS
My heart didn’t stop pounding as Shirley stood up to inspect the place where the sound was coming from.
I laughed nervously and stepped in front of her ‘What are you doing?’
She looked at me in confusion ‘What do you think? I’m trying to find the rat and kill it before it destroys your things and multiply’
I scoffed ‘I didn’t know you can kill rats now. Just ignore the pest, I will deal with it later.’
Shirley glanced at the spot again ‘But….’
‘No buts Shirl….common lets continue our conversation. It’s a very interesting one, we can deal with rats later.’
She sighed ‘You are right’
I dragged her to the couch, we sat down and I was very relieved.
‘So, you guys kissed?’ I asked, my mouth tasting bitter all of a sudden.
She blushed ‘Yeah, we kissed. It was….unexpected’
I saw the red color on her cheeks, she is still in love with him that's the only explanation to the blush I could see on her cheeks.
But why? Why is she still in love with a tramp like Jack?
‘Girl….you still like him’ I announced, forcing a smile.
She frowned ‘Hell to the fuck no…..’
‘Then why are you blushing very hard?
She shrugged ‘Nothing….my brain is just messing with me besides things got pretty awkward between us’
I moved closer ‘What do you mean?’
‘We were both uneasy after the kiss so the conversation ended almost immediately.’
‘Oh’ I said.
Maybe the conversation ended because Jack felt guilty, maybe he thought about me and decided he wasn't going to hurt me.
Don’t blame me for thinking this way.
I know you lot will say I’m delusional, but try being in my shoes first and then you can judge me.
‘I’m meeting him again tomorrow, we need to clear things out’
My breath hitched ‘Why are you meeting with him? Don’t tell me you still want him?’
She sighed ‘That’s not what I’m saying. I don’t know how I feel anymore, all I want is closure.’
How did I manage to get myself into such a big mess?
I looked at my friends confused face and didn’t know what to tell her.
Imagine telling her that her wonderful ex is in my apartment hiding in a corner after he kissed me…..how would she even react?
Betrayal can come in different phases but the one that hurts more is when is done by someone you trust.
I sniffed ‘I understand how you feel. If you really think you need to get closure then, I suggest you meet with him to clear the air between you two. It would help you get a clear mind’
She smiled gratefully ‘Thank you Tess. You are the best of the best.’
She pulled me into a tight hug and I hugged her back while still fighting with the guilt inside of me.
She pulled away and told me she has to leave now that she needs to get rest and do some other things.
I followed her out still praying in my mind that she doesn’t stop midway to ask me for anything like using the bathroom or for water.
I just wanted her to leave.
I opened the door for her.
‘Bye bye’ I said, smiling faintly.
She waved at me and walked away.
I closed the door quickly, leaned my back against it as I struggled to catch my breath.
Gosh this is the worst thing I have ever gone through.
I’m the worst person in the entire planet.
Tears gathered in my eyes as Jack approached me cautiously.
I looked at him fiercely, wishing to smack him across the face ‘Look who we have here, the kisser of the century’
Jack halted, raising his hand up defensively ‘Listen Tess, I can explain. Its not what it seems like’
I gritted my teeth ‘Oh, is not? Then start talking, because you are going to continue explaining for a long time.’
‘Tess...’
My head snapped up ‘Huh?’
‘Please calm down’
I snapped ‘Don’t you ever in your fucking life tell me to calm down again you pathetic tramp’
‘Tess…’
‘Shut the fuck up you bastard. You kissed my friend after which you came here and kissed me too, what kind of a man are you?’
‘Let me explain’
‘Explain what? Explain shoving your tongue down our throats or do you want to explain how you almost announced your presence to Shirley?’
‘It wasn’t my fault, I told you that spot was quite uncomfortable. I shifted and some things fell’
I laughed bitterly ‘Nothing is ever your fault, is always the toothfairies fault or the reapers fault. I told you not to make a fucking sound’
‘I’m sorry…’
‘You are going to be more than sorry, I really want to hit you so bad and throw you out of my window’
His eyes widened ‘Do you want to kill me? You live on the fourth floor for Christ sake!!!’
‘You think I care if you survive. You fucking kissed Shirley…’
‘No….she kissed me’
I scoffed ‘You think you are such a smart ass, right?’
Jack shook his head ‘No, I’m not a smart ass Tess, that’s exactly what happened. I was confused and shocked when the kiss happened’
‘You were shocked? Oh my God, I feel so sorry for you that you had to go through that’ I said sarcastically.
‘Thank you’ he said before looking at my face and understanding.
‘Oh, you were being sarcastic’
Silence.
He walked up to me and grabbed my arm ‘Listen Tess, I promise you that the kiss wasn’t real. It just happened and I pulled away from it. I can never hurt you Tess, I don’t even what to hurt you. I told you that I have never met someone as fascinating and beautiful as you are and that’s the truth’
Silence.
‘Tess…’
‘Hmm’ I responded.
‘Look at me’
He lifted my chin up so that he could see my eyes ‘I’m sorry you had to find out this way about what happened between me and Shirley. I really wanted to tell you when I came here, but I got distracted and started talking about something else. I promise you, there is nothing going on between us. Whatever emotions we have is in the past, you are the only thing that matters to me now’
The anger in me evaporated instantly as I looked at his eyes. He wasn’t lying, he meant every word he said.
I believe him.
This whole thing is just a big misunderstanding, nothing more.
I smiled at him warmly about to tell him that I believe him when his phone rang ruining the moment.
He held the phone up to see who it was.
SHIRLEY!!!!
I was stunned.
He looked at me and then at the phone before he shoved it into his pocket.
‘What are you doing? Answer it’ I told him.
‘No’ he said.
‘Why? You don’t want to talk to her in my presence? I thought you said there is nothing going on’
‘Yes’
‘Then, answer the damn phone!!!’
‘I can see this conversation won’t go anywhere, I’m leaving’
