Chapter 121 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE
Chapter 121 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE
AIDEN
I exhaled and leaned against a wall close by. ‘Nothing happened’
‘You sound troubled, Aiden. What’s going on? Just talk to me, please’
I sighed. ‘I will be fine, Shirley. I just want to talk to you now. Don’t worry about how I sound.’
She hissed, ‘How can I not worry about it? You don’t sound good; where are you? I can come to you.’
‘No!!’ I said quickly, thinking about the drama that will take place if she eventually comes and sees there is someone else in my life who is also carrying my child.
For now, I have to keep this secret from her; I might even take it to the grave.
It even worries me that Lucien hasn’t told her anything till now; this would give him the satisfaction he has always wanted, which is leaving her alone for good.
I still wonder what his plan is.
‘You don’t want to see me?’ she asked, sadness so evident in her voice.
I shook my head. ‘No, that’s not what I meant’
‘Then, what do you mean? You shouted no as if coming to see you is such a terrible idea’
Silence.
I coughed. ‘It is not like that, baby girl, I’m just not around right now. I’m out of town,’ I lied.
‘Oh’
A pause.
‘Okay, so tell me what’s bothering you then and don’t give me that cock and bull story of how you are fine’
I sighed and thought of a way to tell her what’s going on without actually telling her the full story.
‘Someone I really care about had an accident, and I’m just worried about it’
‘Someone you care about? A girl?’ she asked.
I pinched myself. ‘No, not a girl. It’s a guy; I have known him for a long time.’
‘What happened?’ she asked.
I sat down. ‘We were arguing, I said some nasty things to her….and’
‘Her?’
I hissed, ‘I mean him, I’m sorry my head is all messed up now’
‘I understand’
The guilt came again.
‘I think it’s all my fault. Maybe if I didn’t talk to him that way, maybe he would have been okay. He wouldn’t be in the emergency room right now fighting for his life’
She sighed. ‘Come on, Aiden. Stop blaming yourself, it is not your fault’
‘How do you know that? You were not there; he fell during our heated argument. Her….his blood was everywhere. I have never been so scared in my life’
‘That still doesn’t make it your fault; people argue, and accidents happen. I’m sure he will be fine’
I groaned, ‘You don’t know that’
‘My spirit told me and my spirit is never wrong’
It’s been hours now, and I haven’t heard anything from the doctor. That can’t be good; maybe she didn’t make it after all.
I ran my hand through my hair and blew an exasperated breath.
I kept tapping my feet against the floor restlessly, praying in my heart that nothing happens to her.
‘Aiden,’ she said.
Her voice jolted me back to reality; I totally forgot that I was on the phone with her.
‘Huh?’
‘Just take a deep breath. Imagine the good times you guys had before this argument; that should be the memory you should hold on to,’ she told me.
I closed my eyes and thought about Chloe, about her smile, about our romantic time in New York, about the little glances I steal each time she walks past me, about our little angel she was carrying.
I thought about the time I felt the baby kick. Tears fell from my eyes as I thought of the whole thing.
‘I just want he…him to be okay. I’m so scared’
She chuckled. ‘I know this is a bad time, but you are whining like a small puppy’
I sniffed. ‘Are you calling me a dog now?’
‘Not an ugly dog, just a cute little puppy’
I smiled, ‘Stop playing with me, Shirley’
‘I just want you to be happy. I believe your friend is as tough as you are. He will be fine’
I took a deep breath and felt a sense of peace wash all over me.
As if on cue, the door of the emergency room opened. I dropped the call, stood up, and made my way to the doctor who was walking towards me.
My heart started racing, my palms felt sweaty.
All I could do was mutter a prayer in my heart, ‘God, please let nothing happen to her’
‘Doctor, is she okay? She is not dead, right? Is the baby fine?’ I asked all at once, panting as if I just ran 200 miles.
The doctor offered me a warm smile. ‘They are both okay?’
I exhaled. ‘You mean both mother and baby are doing well?’
He nodded. ‘Yes. She has a concussion from hitting her head; thankfully, there was no major damage’
I sighed in relief.
Jesus, I can kiss you right now.
‘And the baby?’
‘She is alive and kicking. You have nothing to worry about’
Tears of gratitude filled my eyes.
‘Thank you so much, Doctor’
