Chapter 122 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO
Chapter 122 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-TWO
SHIRLEY
My mind hasn’t settled down after speaking to Aiden yesterday.
I was very worried about him; he hung up the call unexpectedly without telling me he would call me back or anything.
I tried reaching him; I dialed his number about four times. It rang and then went to voicemail.
I also dropped several text messages just to know what was going on with him.
I have never heard him sound so vulnerable. Normally, he was sweet, funny, interesting, and quite tough, but when I spoke to him over the phone, I heard something that scared me.
I heard pain and fear in his voice.
He was panicking so badly, talking about a guy that got unconscious.
I just hope the guy recovers.
I hope Aiden heals from this as well.
I hissed as I walked down the sidewalk; taking a long walk most times helps me to clear my head.
The road was quite busy, cars honking, people coming from different directions.
A young guy was playing a sweet melody on his guitar, and a small crowd had already gathered to listen. Those who liked what they heard dropped some money for him while others cheered him loudly.
I smiled as I listened to the song he was singing.
It was Sia’s song, ‘Unstoppable’
I hummed the song as I continued my walk.
I’m unstoppable
I’m a Porsche with no brakes.
I’m invincible…
Occasionally, I looked back at the guy playing the song for his audience. I was really enjoying the song, so much that I didn’t look where I was going, and before I knew it, I collided with someone, and I stumbled backwards because of the impact.
I swerved for a few seconds before I finally got myself.
‘I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to…..I wasn’t looking. It’s my fault,’ I started rambling.
I lifted my eyes and froze on the spot because standing before me was no one other than my sweet doting ex fiancé who I caught in bed with another man.
‘Jack?’ I blurted out.
‘Shirley….’ He replied, rubbing his chest, which was where I hit him.
No words were said after that. We just stood there, staring at ourselves, remembering sad memories that shouldn’t be remembered.
People always talk about their first love and how difficult it is to get over them. Most times, I claim not to believe it.
Tess would always say a first love doesn’t mean anything, especially when they hurt you.
‘You can always forget about them and move forward’
That’s what Tess would always say.
Well, I’m not as strong-minded as Tess or as fearless as she is.
Maybe that’s why I stood here remembering everything that happened between us.
Remembering the bitter/sweet moments we shared.
Remembering how he humiliated me.
Remembering how I walked in on him smashing his dick into another man’s butt.
In my own little innocent mind, I had already imagined how our first night together would be.
I wanted to give my virginity that I have saved to him because I believed he was the right man, only to discover that he had just been messing with me all this while.
No, I’m not going to think about him again.
He is ancient history, and that’s how he must remain in my head.
I rolled my eyes at him, turned the other way, and started walking away from him.
‘Shirley….Shirley, wait,’ I heard him say behind me.
I ignored him and increased my pace.
He followed me and tried to catch up.
‘Shirley please…..Shirley, I need to talk to you’
No response.
He really thinks I’m going to entertain whatever load of lies he wants to tell me?
He must really think I’m a fool.
I continued walking.
He continued following me. ‘Shirley, please….can we just have an honest conversation like adults?’
That got my attention; I turned and looked at him from head to toe.
‘Oh now, you want to be an adult?’ I asked, angrily.
‘That’s not what I’m trying to say….I’m trying to apologize,’ he said.
I laughed bitterly. ‘Well, congratulations. You apologized, I hope you feel less guilty now?’
A pause.
‘Exactly, cat got your tongue now, right?’
He lowered his eyes to the ground, unable to look at me properly in the eye.
‘Fucking bastard,’ I muttered as I turned away from him again.
He ran after me, grabbed my hand, and I yanked it off repulsively.
‘Don’t you fucking touch me again in your wretched life’
‘Please, Shirley?’
‘Please what? What in God’s name do you want from me now?’
He exhaled, ‘I just….can we talk?’
I rolled my eyes at him. ‘Hell no, I would rather talk to a baboon than to engage in any conversation with you.’
‘Come on, Shirley, don’t do this. Please just give me five minutes, just listen to what I have to say’
I scoffed, ‘I should give you five minutes of my time? You must be nuts’
I tried to walk away again, but he stopped me.
‘Okay, three minutes…just give me three minutes. If after three minutes of talking to you, you still don’t want to talk to me, then I will leave you be. I promise’
‘When have your promises ever meant anything?’
