Chapter 120 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY
Chapter 120 ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY
AIDEN
My heart kept pounding as the fear of the unknown filled my gut.
What if she doesn’t make it?
What if I lose both of them?
My hands, my clothes, and my pants were all stained with blood.
With her blood.
I didn’t allow anybody to touch her; I carried her myself to the car.
‘Just drive,’ I told my driver, and he stepped on it at once.
I held her hand and started muttering words, ‘Please be okay. Please, don’t leave me.’
I have never believed in God’s existence.
I’m one of the people who think the people who call on him have nothing better to do with their time.
I mean, how will God exist, and people will get away with the atrocities they have committed?
If there were truly a maker, then people like Lucien and me would be rotting away in an abandoned forest, our eyes plucked by vultures and our rotten bodies, a playing ground for animals.
And yet, I found myself looking up to heaven and muttering words I never thought I would ever say.
Now, I guess it’s true when people say that people only turn to God for help when they need something.
‘God please, if you are truly up there, please save Chloe. She is important to me; I’m sure you understand. I’m sorry I doubted your existence in the past, but just ignore all my past and please just keep Chloe safe,’ I begged, tears almost coming to my eyes.
He heard me, right?
He will keep Chloe safe, right?
He is a forgiving God, so he will forgive all the murders I have committed, the evil lifestyle I live. He will surely do something; I’m sure of it.
I waited for a sign from God to assure me that he heard me.
I didn’t hear God’s deep voice talking to me like he spoke to Moses in the bible.
Maybe he was sleeping for now, but God doesn’t sleep, right?
The ride to the hospital felt like the longest ride of my life; my driver was definitely speeding, but it still felt like he wasn’t.
‘Hurry up!!!’ I yelled at him.
‘We are almost there, Boss, ’ he said quickly.
‘It doesn’t feel like it,’ I murmured.
A few minutes later, our car rolled into the hospital.
Doctors and nurses rushed out, and they took her limp body from me and rushed to the emergency room.
My body was still shaking.
‘Will she be alright?’ I asked one of the doctors.
He looked at me with pity. ‘We will do everything in our power to take care of her.’
That wasn’t the answer I wanted; I wanted an assurance that she would be okay.
Hours have passed, and I haven’t heard anything yet.
The few doctors who rushed out of the emergency room were so much in a hurry that they didn't even glance at me.
I was tired.
I was impatient, and I was deeply troubled.
What if the baby doesn’t make it?
What if she bleeds too much and becomes brain-dead?
You won’t blame me for spiraling. Try being in this kind of situation first, and then you will understand how it feels.
This thing happened because of that bastard Lucien; even his name brings disaster.
Everywhere I look, there he is, everything I do, he will always be there destroying everything I have built.
Now, this one thing I thought I could finally keep him away from, he has managed to once again invade and infect it.
I continued pacing around, panicking and scared, until I finally told myself the bitter truth.
Pacing around all day isn’t going to solve shit.
I slumped on one of the long hospital chairs; a few people stared at me, and some of them shook their heads with pitiful looks on their faces but didn’t say anything to me.
My head was full; it felt like it was going to explode.
I need a distraction; maybe speaking to someone will make things better.
I brought out my phone from my pocket and scrolled through the contacts saved in my phone.
It was then that I realized that I had no one.
All I had in my phone was the phone number of my business partners, my men, killers, associates, etc.
They are not people I can call for a pep talk.
It hurts when the truth is staring right in your face.
The only number there that brought some form of relief to me was Shirley’s.
She was the only one I could talk to.
She has this ability to calm me down even when my heart is a raging mess.
Before I could stop myself, I quickly dialed her number and waited for her to answer.
It rang a few times and then the line clicked, and her sweet, soothing voice came to the phone.
‘Hello,’ she said.
‘Hello,’ I responded, noticing the coldness in her voice.
‘I’m surprised you still have my number,’ she stated.
‘I’m sorry Shirley, I have just been….’
‘Busy….I know,’ she said sarcastically.
I didn’t speak again; I was only breathing heavily.
‘Aiden? What’s wrong with you?’ she asked, genuine concern in her voice.
I sighed.
Where do I even start from?
