Chapter 168 - Contract Wife Morning, My Darling CEO
Third Person POV
Jada had made careful considerations before speaking.
More than anyone, she knew that Chad was not one to go back on his words when he makes you a promise. No matter how hard it would be to fulfil the promise, he’d always try to do it.
So, as long as she had his word, she was confident that she would finally get rid of Cassidy.
A sarcastic smirk settled on Chad’s lips as he chuckled. Even though his eyes were filled with amusement, he looked so beautiful at that moment. She rarely saw Chad smile around her, which made her hate Cassidy so much because Becca had shown her pictures of both of them together. Chad was always in a good mood.
“C-Chad, c-can you promise me that?” she asked cautiously, wishing she could read his blank expression.
Chad’s eyes grew cold until his amber pupils looked like an exquisite gem. It was beautiful yet it could pierce through someone.
“Jesse, cancel the operation and arrange for the heart to be given to a more suitable person,”.
He had spent the better part of his life and precious time searching for a suitable heart for her. He had gone to great lengths, even having to pretend that he slept with another woman just because he wanted her to be fine.
And when he finally finds it, he is being threatened and bullied into Jada’s absurdness.
There is a limit to every man’s patience and that includes someone like Chad.
Jada’s face turned white as she stared at him in disbelief. Was he going to let her die?
Her mom – Jennifer, cried out in anguish as she tried to stop Doctor Jesse, who was about to leave the room to go and carry Chad’s orders.
“Chad, please. You know Jada is just throwing a tantrum. You can’t do this to her, she needs this heart,”.
“Does she now?” he turned to her mom. “Because if she does, I haven’t sensed any desperation,”.
“Please,” Jennifer cried.
Ignoring her, he turned back to Doctor Jesse and yelled.
“What are you still doing here? Do as I have said, immediately. I’m sure a lot of people who truly need that rare kind of heart would line up and give anything to have it. Just choose the best candidate for it and arrange their surgery. I’ll cover all the medical expenses attached,”.
At this point, Doctor Jesse knew Chad was not bluffing. With one final look of regret towards Jada, he pushed her mother away and tried to leave to carry out Chad’s instructions.
Jada’s mom panicked. Her emotions were all over the place and her brain didn’t seem to be able to process anything. She grabbed Doctor Jesse by his limbs, holding onto him with all her strength, and then hurriedly turned to Jada.
“C’mon baby, apologize to Mr. West immediately. Tell him you want to live and will go through with the surgery,”.
Jada’s heart was pounding wildly in her chest, her face was red and it seemed she was short of breath too. So, Chad was willing to be cruel to her.
How could he do this? How could he care so little about her own life?
A surge of anger welled up within her, and her eyes gradually turned a fiery shade of red. At that moment, her heart was filled with hatred.
Chad looked coldly at Doctor Jesse.
“Can’t you break yourself from even a woman’s grasp? Is all the training by the West family now in vain?”
Doctor Jesse was scared of getting humiliated. Jennifer was an elderly woman so naturally; she couldn’t overpower him even if she used all of her strength. He was delayed because he wanted to show some sympathy to Jada, hoping she would realize she was wrong and apologize.
He grabbed Jennifer's shoulder, pulling her away easily, and soon she was free. She wailed, “Jada, don't be stubborn!”
Trembling, Jada finally cried out,
“I'll have the surgery! I'll have the surgery!”
As the words left her mouth, she collapsed in pain, tears streaming down her cheeks. Chad, his patience worn thin, turned away without looking back. He instructed Doctor Jesse to continue preparing for the surgery and left the commotion behind, walking away alone.
He didn't go far, but his heart felt heavy, suffocating him. He reached for a cigarette, even though he hadn't smoked in a long time. However, he realized he didn't have a lighter and reluctantly put the cigarette away.
“Here, I have a lighter,” a voice offered.
Chad turned his head and saw Caleb. He had a lit cigarette in his mouth, there was a mischievous smile on his face.
He tossed the lighter to Chad, who accepted and lit his cigarette.
“Who is that woman?”
Caleb didn't mention her by name, but there was no doubt he was referring to Cassidy.
“If you’re truly curious, I believe you've already checked her out. What else do you want to know?”
Caleb looked at him with a sly smile and said maliciously,
“Today's entertainment news is quite entertaining. It seems she’s involved with a male artist, are you aware?”
Chad's entire demeanour turned icy in an instant. His eyes, sharp and piercing, stared into the distance as if he were transported to darker days. He took a deep drag from his cigarette, then exhaled slowly.
“Are you trying to defend your sister?”
“Never,” Caleb scoffed. “I would never do that. To me, she doesn’t exist. So, I don’t care if she’s dead or alive,”.
“So, why are you asking so many questions?”
“I just want to know who could have made you leave your comfort zone,”.
Chad thought it was funny to compare one’s sister to a comfort zone, but he didn’t say anything.
Rather, he took another long drag of his cigarette before turning to him.
“You’ve always hated, Jada. Why?”
Caleb rolled up his sleeves, revealing a series of vicious wounds on his arms and upper limbs.
“Why are you showing me this?” Chad arched a brow at him. “Didn’t you say that you fell from a tree when you were a child and was scratched by branches while you were falling,”?
“Jada told you so” He pointed to a scar about two inches long. “She threatened me with scissors when she was just ten years old and then cut my skin with them.”.
Fear crept into his eyes as he continued bitterly.
“So, I saw and experienced how black and malicious Jada could be. Her innocent looks make her look blameless, but believe me, I know better. You’ve always pitied and treasured her,”.
Chad still didn’t say anything, he continued watching him.
“Chad, you shouldn’t save her,”.
Caleb's words were earnest, his expression solemn and grave as if he were warning a lost soul.
Chad smiled gently and flicked away the ash from his burnt cigarette.
“I don’t care if everything you’ve told me here is true or false but I want to thank you first. As for Jada, I don’t want to speculate on her with any vicious thoughts. For the sake of family harmony, you should get along with her,”.
Caleb didn't expect Chad to remain unconvinced. His face turned white with anger, and he threw away his cigarette butt.
“You know what, forget about everything I’ve said. Jada will come for you in the future, don’t say I didn’t warn you though,”.
As he left, a thought crossed his mind.
Did Chad truly not care or was he pretending not to care about his woman?

The West Villa (Chad and Cassidy’s house).
Cassidy finally returned home after another heated argument with Adrian. She was hoping to find Chad at home and explain what had truly happened but when she got home, he was not around.
She reached out to someone in the company to inquire if he was at work but she was told he wasn’t there and coincidentally; his phone number was not connecting. She couldn’t determine if something was truly wrong or if he was deliberately trying to ignore her.
The latter seemed like a more possible scenario.
“Did he at least mention where he was going?” she asked their butler, Gerald.
“No ma’am,” Gerald shook his head “Mr West never shares his itinerary with mere servants like me,”.
Cassidy’s shoulders slumped in defeat as her anxiety and loneliness deepened.
Her eyes flitted to the TV in the living room. A journalist was giving a detailed breakdown of her relationship with Adrian. It seemed like this time around, the news was more outrageous than in previous times.
With a frustrated sigh, she turned off the TV, slamming the remote control on the coffee table. Snippets of what had happened earlier in the day came back to her and, for the first time, she had felt so lost in a crowd.
In particular, the part where she had spotted Chad would forever remain a painful memory for her.
Then again, if Chad truly loved her as he claimed, why would he be happy with another woman? Especially barely 48 hours after they got into a fight.
She massaged her temples, trying to relieve the splitting headache that had begun to form. Until her phone rang. Immediately, she picked it up hoping it would be from Chad, but the caller ID said it was Jasmine.
“Hello,”
“Cass, I think I am in love,” Jasmine cried.
