Chapter 167 - Contract Wife Morning, My Darling CEO
Third Person POV
Chad gave her a measured, almost indifferent look. He didn’t want Jada to get emotionally agitated. His thin lips were pressed in disdain as he stared at her silently.
“Hey dear,” Cosmo soothed his daughter gently “Don’t try now, the surgery will be done soon, you should check with the doctor quickly. Remember, you’ve been waiting for this heart for so long,”.
Jada ignored her father as her gaze remained fixed on Chad. He was handsome and tall as ever. His back was blocking the sun, causing it to form a bright halo around him.
This was the love of her life, yet she felt so far away from him.
“I won’t do it,” she murmured slowly.
“Do what dear?” her dad asked gently.
“I won’t go through with the surgery,” she cried. “I think I was destined to be a damned soul many years ago,”.
Jennifer hit her in annoyance and she burst into tears.
“What nonsense are you saying?” she demanded. “You have to live and live well. I can’t live without you,”.
She hugged her tightly and sobbed bitterly. But Jada’s eyes held no emotion, her gaze was still fixed on Chad.
Somehow, she was waiting for him, waiting for his assurance, waiting for him to persuade her, to retract what he just said a few minutes ago.
Somewhere deep down in his heart, she believed he still had feelings for her and she trusted her intuition. This was Chad, the man who had once loved her endlessly.
In desperation, Jennifer turned to Chad, clutching at his arms.
“Chad, please talk to my daughter. She finally has a chance to live, she can’t throw it away. Please do something,”.
Chad arched a brow as his gaze turned cold.
“Who’s stopping her from doing the surgery? Her life is in her own hands. If she doesn’t want it, why should others beg her for it?”
Chad was being reasonable but he sounded as though he was talking to a stranger. He was indifferent.
Jada's body trembled, overwhelmed by pain and resentment. She bit her lower lip, trying to suppress the flood of emotions in her heart. She clenched her hands into a fist until her knuckles were white.
“You think it is my fault that you can’t live life the way you want?” Jada’s lips trembled.
“Please, Jada, I can’t do this with you now,” Chad replied with a sigh.
“If I hadn’t been in your life if we hadn’t met, would you have been with Cassidy and not feel guilty? You would have lived life to the fullest as you’ve always wanted, right?”
Tears were streaming down her face, her eyes full of accusations.
“Why are you doing this to me, Chad? Why are you acting like a stranger?” Jada wailed. “You told me several times that you love me and this? Did you always have an ulterior motive in your heart? If you didn’t love me all these years, why did you fucking stay?”
Disappointment crept into Chad’s face.
“I can’t believe you’re saying this. After all these years of being together, I thought you would understand the kind of person that I am. Whenever I want something, I don’t give up or get swayed by others,”.
“What?” Jada’s eyes widened in surprise. “This is the matter we’re talking about Chad. You can’t be rational with feelings at all. I know she’s not suitable for you. Just forget about her and let’s start over.”
“Jada…” Chad drummed quietly.
“It was the grief that pushed you into her arms. You missed me and you’ve not had any physical contact with any woman, so this is just temporal. Now that I am back, you’ll see that it’s me you love,” Jada was getting hysterical.
Her eyes were filled with deep affection and expectation as she stared at Chad. But his gaze was calm, devoid of any emotion.
At this point, Doctor Jesse entered the room. There was a slight frown on his face as he announced.
“Miss Patel, the window of opportunity for a live organ transplant won’t last long Please come with me quickly,”.
“No!” Jada swatted her mom’s arms away from hers as she attempted to pull her out.
“I won’t go,” she declared. “I said I wouldn’t have the surgery. Even if the surgery is successful, I will become like every normal person. What’s the point of surviving when the one I love won’t be with me?”
“Baby, please,” Jennifer implored. “You can’t have those thoughts. Have you thought about me, your mom? How do you expect me to live? Your father and your brother won’t be able to bear it either. So please, go in,”.
“What your mom said is the truth. We all love you and what we want more than anything is for you to come back home with us,” her dad said quietly.
“If you don’t want to do it, then you can go ahead and die since that is what you desire,” Caleb, her brother, retorted.
“Caleb…” their mom screamed in agitation, but he continued.
“Even if you want to die, must you do it so publicly? Why are you trying to make so many people stop you? Go die if you want,”.
Caleb was too harsh.
Jada knew her brother had never liked her but she didn’t expect him to say such vile words to her. Suddenly, she threw. She broke down into fresh tears…
“Caleb is right,” she wailed “Mom, Dad, I have been nothing but a burden to all of you and I’m so sorry, I’ll be leaving now,”.
With that, she threw herself on the wall, trying to hurt herself. Her mom rushed towards her and held her waist, trying to restrain her before turning her angry eyes to Caleb.
“You rebellious son,” she lashed out, “This is your sister for Pete’s sake. You didn’t try to dissuade her for once, but you also wanted her to die. Do you have a conscience?”
Caleb snorted coldly. He had never liked this sister who had never been close to him. She had taken all of their mother's love and had inflicted suffering upon him and their family since childhood.
Jennifer's despair deepened as she saw her son's indifference. She couldn't control him, and she had little hope for him in the future, but Jada was her pride.
She gritted her teeth and knelt before her daughter, her voice trembling as she spoke.
“Baby, you can't do this. Your life is your mother's life. I beg you, my dear, please go through with the surgery,”.
Jada quickly pulled her mother back up, tears streaming down her face as she held her tightly in her arms. The hall was filled with the heartbreaking cries of mother and daughter, occasionally interrupted by Cosmos’s soothing and persuasive words.
At first, Chad observed the whole scene with amusement, which slowly gave way to a growing irritation. All the guilt and tenderness he had felt for her dissipated inch by inch.
She didn't truly love him; instead, she had used him to hurt those who cared for her. To her, he was just a pawn in a game, a bargaining chip for negotiation.
When she was a child, she was so kind and warm-hearted. What had happened to her? Why was she like this now?
Cosmos felt out of place as he watched both his wife and daughter crying. Embarrassed, he leaned closer to Chad.
“Chad, please... can you say a few comforting words to her? Saving a life is more important than building a seven-story building, and after all, she saved your life,”.
The last sentence struck a chord with Chad, bringing back memories of the winding alleys they had traveled together in the past. She took his hand and kept running, looking back at him with a radiant smile. Her eyes were bright and sparkling like the stars in the sky.
His expression softened as he walked towards the duo and gently lifted Jada away from her mother’s embrace. She was still crying.
He handed her a paper towel and gently said…
“Wipe your tears, Jada, and go in with the doctor for the surgery. As long as you stay alive, I will fulfill any request that is within my power,”.
Jada smiled triumphantly. She had purposely caused a fuss with every intention that he would eventually come to her and, with his words, joy filled her heart.
“Really?” she asked with a smile.
“Yeah, anything, and if I can do it, I’ll grant it,”.
“Then,” Jada paused, “I want you to break up with Cassidy. Can you promise me that?”
Disgust surged through Chad’s heart but he controlled it. He didn’t want to give her false hopes. After all, he had once loved her too.
So, he tried to give her what he felt was a soothing glance and then calmly said.
“I said that I will grant you your desire if your operation is successful and not before,”.
“What if you go back on your words after its success?” Jada stared at him anxiously.
She must make sure that everything works out in her favor.
Chad gave her a cold look.
“Are you trying to threaten me with your own life now? Are you even thinking clearly about your actions?”
Chad was tired.
He had been trying to put on a brave face for the last 24 hours, but he was already depressed and now he felt like he was being forced against his will.
With one look at his livid face, Jada knew he was truly angry. She had no other choice at this point, especially since it seemed like Cassidy had wholly captured his heart, so what she could grasp was his kindness.
This was the only opportunity she knew she would be getting to get whatever she wanted, so she must get it by all means and then go ahead with the surgery peacefully.
“Yes,” she finally nodded “I’ve thought about my actions and that’s what I want. Do you agree?”
