Chapter 110 Chapter: 110
ALESSANDRO

After I left Andrea's room, I went back to my room. I needed a drink, something strong to tamp down the rage inside me. I opened the bottle of Macallan 1926 and poured a generous amount into my glass.

Three glasses later, and I still needed more. I've never been impatient to end someone like I do Don Marchetti.

Andrea's words came back to me. She said she didn't blame me for her situation, but I do. I knew if it weren't for my relationship with her, she wouldn't have been kidnapped and brought here. I wasn't angry at Andrea or at everything she said, because she was right.

She needs the truth from me, not a bunch of reassurances and platitudes. I wish I could tell her everything, but I didn't want to risk anyone accidentally finding out my plans. It would ruin everything, which is something I couldn't afford.

The anger and rage I'd been suppressing for months were close to a boiling point. My control had never been tested like this. I was angry at myself, at Don Marco, and at the fact that I'd had to wait this long to take care of him. But I couldn't hasten things up and risk the chance of Don Marchetti catching wind of what I'm doing.

Everything has to go according to plan; there's no room for mistakes. Now that the time is almost upon us, I know there's a tiny part of me that's hesitant to end him, which is galling as fuck, I hate the man more than anyone in this world. I loathe him for more than a hundred reasons.

Though he'd raised me and was the only father figure I had growing up, he'd never once acted like a father. I know without a doubt I would have done a lot better without him in my life. It's true he'd taught me everything I know, everything he knows.

He was the one who had molded me into the perfect killer I am today; he'd put a gun in my hand at the age of seven and taught me to kill.

As twisted as that sounds, he was in his own way teaching me to survive, knowing fully the kind of world we are. But he never loved me, just as I never loved him. We might have been blood-related, but we weren't close.

He was my Capo, and I was his enforcer. I've always done what he wants, obey without questions, I was a shadow not his grandson and I let him believe it that I was under his thumb, while I grow up became a man of my own. Forging my own part in life, but allowing him a little control over me so as not to notice that I've long been free of his influence over me.

After I got out of jail, I never wanted to go back to my old life. I never intended to come; I wanted him to forget me with the thought that I was still in jail in his mind. But I threw all that away months ago, and I knew what asking a favor from an old acquaintance would bring back into my life.

And I did it anyway, for Meredith. It was that phone call that had set things in motion. My Intel had betrayed me; he'd revealed my truth to Don Marco, which gave my dear grandfather an opportunity to try to entrap me once again into this life.

Now, he'd push me too hard and too far to ignore what I already know was inevitable. I always wonder what my Nonna would think of the kind of man I've become. She was a kind woman, too soft and kind for this world. I'm sure without her words of guidance and her soft smiles, I would have been forever lost in the mire of hate, violence, and hopelessness.

Though she couldn't stop the abuse and mistreatment, she'd been there for me, taking care of my injuries, keeping me company whenever Nonno wasn't around, and feeding me with her delicious food. Nonno Maria was my light growing up, and when she died.

I felt like my whole life had a blackout, now that I think about it. I get it; my hesitation stems from what she thinks about what I'm about to do. Would she think I'm the monster my grandfather had sought to turn me into? Or would she understand that I have to do this?

Because it's a question of Andrea's survival and the child inside her. My child! Then she will win every time; it's a no-brainer. There's absolutely nothing I wouldn't do for her. And I'm pretty sure Don Marco's death will benefit a lot of good people; the man was a scumbag who deserves the worst.

And I intend to serve it to him, I've got a couple of aces up my sleeve that he would never believe, it's a game-changer. I'm waiting on some news, which is the first step before I execute my plans. After that, everything will go back to its rightful place except for Don Marco.

Ever since I found out the truth about my parents, I'd sworn that if I ever came back. I will obliterate everything he holds dear until his whole world crumbles around him like a house of cards. I also keep my word.

Earlier, when I saw Andrea with Valentina, I wanted to say fuck it all and take her away from here. But to do that means we'll forever keep running and hiding and watching over our backs. I don't want that life for her or our baby. Which was why I hadn't, but I couldn't control the urge to see her.

I've missed her so fucking much it hurts. What I feel for Andrea cannot be translated into words; it is dark and light, hard and soft. She was my light in a world filled with darkness. Since I met her, she'd filled my life with color, and I'm starting to sound like a fucking poet right now.

Fuck! The point is to protect her. I'll even let her hate me and believe whatever as long as it keeps her safe.

I know she's sick and tired of her situation, especially in her condition. Tomorrow, however, I will prove to her that, with me by her side, she needn't fear anything or anyone because I will do anything to keep her safe.

I downed my half-full glass of scotch, feeling the familiar burn as it slid down my throat and warmed my stomach. Then I went to the corner chair and sat down. I just needed a couple of hours of sleep, and it's counting down.

A couple of hours later.

“Boss, I've looked everywhere, and I still haven't found her,” Casio said over the phone. I pause from loading the bullets inside my last gun and wonder where Andrea could have gone.

Shit!

I knew she was lying to me last night. I'd seen a glimpse of hard determination in her eyes, but thought it was just her closing me off. Fuck it, my Vixen needed to be safe so I could carry on with the plan. I needed to find her asap.

“That's impossible, she can't have gone far. Do it again, search every-fucking-where. We need to find her fast. I'll search in the east wing, you go to the south,” I said, tucking two guns in my waistband and another in an ankle holster. Then I spoke through the general line.

“Guys, stand by and wait for my signal. Stick to the plan, do you understand?”

“Understood, we're all in position,” they each answer. There was only one who didn't answer, and we both knew why he couldn't.

“Good.”

It is time!

ANDREA

As I hurried inside the house, I kept glancing behind me to see if anyone had noticed me leaving. Fortunately, no one did. Tears kept falling from my eyes, as if the dam had been broken, even as my heart pounded with excitement.

Just like Giulia has said, the house was empty of all its occupants and staff. Hopefully, it is also true for the people guarding the back door.

I went straight into the storage room, closing the door behind me, and went to the place where I hid my burlap bag behind the boxes, praying it was still there.

Fortunately, it was exactly where I left it. I carried it, dropped it in front of the old piano, and began to strip out of the green dress. It wouldn't do for someone to recognize me because of my dress and stop me during my escape.

It took only a few seconds for me to change into the yoga pants I'd saved for this day. The big dark gray sweater would help conceal my pregnancy from prying eyes.

I also don't want anyone to recognize me just because of my pregnancy. I could imagine how the men who would inevitably be sent to chase me would describe me.

White, American, and pregnant. Yeah, that wouldn't do at all. It terribly sucks to be dragged back because of my baby bump. So it is best to prevent that scenario from happening.

I straighten up after tying my black sneakers. And carry the back. I need to call Alice and Beth, but I don't have the time right now.

I made a mental note to call them when I'm as far away from Villa Marchetti as possible. I opened the door, checked to my right, and then left…my breath froze in my throat as I stared down the length of a gun pointed right into my face.

I was shocked, and the bag in my h and slipped to the ground, when my eyes collided with Patrizio's dark, menacing eyes.
