Chapter 109 Chapter: 109

ANDREA

Hours later I stared into the vanity mirror, my body encased in a dark green dress that emphasized my eye color and somehow managed to hide the fact I was pregnant.

The dress clung to my mid waist and flowed from there downwards, the dress was one of three dresses that actually fit me. I'd curled my hair into thick curls, my face was all made up.

Dark red lipstick, straightened eyelashes, foundation, and all. I looked gorgeous but that didn't hide the sadness and hopelessness I felt.

The time is finally here, in less than an hour. Alessandro would get married to Valentina, the knock to my bedroom startled me, making me whip around. Giulia stood at the door in a sky blue dress that clung to her beautiful body.

“Giulia, you look absolutely gorgeous!” I said masking my feelings, Giulia blushed smiling.

“Thank you, not as gorgeous as you. You're literally glowing,” she replied.

“That's just pregnancy. It won't last though in a few more weeks I will probably look like a fat penguin.”

“No, I don't think so. You'll always look beautiful even if you're a little fat, can't help that,” she said as we both laughed.

“Yeah, there's no escaping that. Thank you, Giulia for the compliments. Is there something you want?”

“No, I actually came to check up on you. I didn't think you were going?”

“I am, you know, as well as I do. He's not going to let me hide in my room,” I replied without elaborating which he was talking about.

Giulia knew I was talking about Don Marchetti. I put on the new diamond earrings Alessandro had bought for me when he took me on that boat trip. Those two days felt like a lifetime ago when it's only a few weeks.

The earrings are the only thing I'm taking from the things he'd bought me. I even have a receipt. I intend to sell it and use the money for my plane ticket and to support myself before I go to the bank and sort out my account.

“I'm sorry that you're going through this Andrea,I wish there's a way I could help you. I hate that bitch, living in villa Marchetti is going to be hard for all of us but especially you,” she said sincerely, her face somber.

“Hey,it's okay, everything will be fine. No frowning on this beautiful face,” I said with a little smile. Hoping like hell that I succeed. Just thinking of leaving under the same roof with that bitch is making me nauseous. I quickly wipe her thoughts from my head, focusing on the here and now.

“By the way I love your dress, the shoes not so much. I've got a pair that would go perfect with your dress,” I said walking towards the closet, a few minutes later I strutted back with two pairs of high heels and two dresses.

“Here, you can have these. They are all small for me. But they will fit you. Try on the shoes let's see,” I said, then bite my lips as I wait for her to put them on. Just as I thought, we wear the same shoe sizes. It also matches the dress.

“I can't take all these Andrea, only these shoes. They are pretty,” she argued when I insisted on her taking the other shoes and the dresses.

“Just take them, they are too small for me anyway.” She finally accepts them and thanks me. Before leaving me to finish getting ready like I asked. In truth I was only going to carry the grocery bag. I hide all of my things so I can hide it in a more accessible place.

My flat shoes were silent on the carpeted floor as I walked through the almost empty hallways. I know most of the guards, soldiers or rather enforcers as everyone likes to call them, and staff of the Marchetti famiglia are at the wedding venue near the grapevine outside. Alessandro would probably be there too.

There are still a few soldiers around though, fortunately Patrizio was nowhere in sight. My heart pounded so loudly it was a wonder they didn't hear it as I walked past them. I was extremely nervous and kept imagining them stopping me and demanding to search me or tell them where I was going. Somehow I managed not to panic and run, giving myself away in the process.

I try not to make eye contact with any of them as I walk calmly downstairs and towards the staff kitchen my hand holding an innocent looking burlap sack which Zetta used to buy groceries and I'd later borrowed…ok stole not that she needed it. I could have carried my bag from Alessandro's room but that would be dumb.

There are people in the kitchen, busy cooking for the after-party. I said hi to some of them telling them I was looking for Giulia which was a lie. None of them were suspicious of him, why would they. I've walked through the kitchen towards the backdoor several times with Giulia throughout my stay here.

Even though that door was guarded from the outside,it's also the door I intend to escape through. It would lead me to the part of the parking lot, where sometimes the soldiers park their cars. My plans solely depended on the guards manning that backdoor also attending the wedding ceremony.

Which Giulia had assured me they would. When I conspicuously asked her if everyone is expected to attend the wedding. She'd told me that all soldiers and staff are to attend the ceremony and the after party.

This particular door is to the west part of the villa, there's a storage room in this part of the villa, where I intend to hide my sack for later. There was no one in the narrow hallway, the storage was also empty, I quickly hid the sack behind some boxes stacked high at the back of an old piano.

When I came out of the storage room, my eyes stared longingly at the end of the hallway, knowing just a few steps away lies my freedom. Though I wanted so badly to try my luck right now, I forced myself to go back especially when I heard the loud voices of men speaking in Italian.

The only reason I'm going back is because Don Marchetti would have men chasing after me in less than a minute, if he didn't see me at the wedding grounds. I needed to go sate his sadistic side that always wants to watch me suffer,so as to not raise any suspicion. Though I have no plan to watch Alessandro exchange vows with Valentina.

The grapevine area has been turned into a gorgeous garden, with beautiful greenery and flowers elegantly decorated, rows and rows of chairs were placed on both sides of the isle, the wedding arch where the couples would soon take their vows were decorated with vines, leaves, flowers and colorful strips of clothes.

It was a fairytale wedding without it being tacky. Add to that the weather is beautiful though it was said to expect rain later in the afternoon. Which was why the reception would take place in the living room which had also undergone a total change. The living room has been stripped of every furniture so as to decorate and make sure it accommodates everyone.

Everything had been planned beforehand and to perfection. I was honestly surprised at the amount of people already sitting here, there were others who didn't get a seat, which was where I was at the very back, not wanting Giulia or Zetta to see me and call me to join them.

There are more men than women, almost three quarters of the people there were women. All armed men I'm sure, they're from both the Marchetti famiglia and the Moretti's, though I couldn't see anyone openly holding a gun probably because marriage is a sacred ceremony and all. Not ideal to be wielding a gun in what was supposed to be the beginning of a new era for not just the couple but also the famiglias.

My heartbeat tripled, my stomach churned as Alessandro walked down the aisle with Lorenzo, Don Marchetti who had decided it was time he abandoned his wheelchair and probably stopped feigning weakness now that he's finally getting what he wants. Patrizio and Beneditto followed closely behind them.

Alessandro was dressed in a black suit, as always since he came to this country, the only exception is his white crisp shirt. He looks so fucking gorgeous, my heart ache, I blink back the tears wanting to escape. Like this he reminded me of the ruthless businessman I met months ago.

His face is clean-shaven of his beard. I have grown partial to his beard but now he'd shaved it all for his new life with Valentina. It was sad and silly to be upset that he'd shaved because he's getting married, but I am upset nonetheless, the tears I fought so hard were suddenly sliding down my face, fortunately no one noticed me.

I raise my hand to wipe away the tears before anyone does, just then my eyes clash into the evil eyes of Don Marchetti, who stares at me with triumph shining in his dark eyes. Bastard! I quickly looked away. I wish I could leave in that instant, but I know it wasn't the right time.

So, I stayed right there, fortunately for me he was happy with how utterly miserable and defeated I looked and had lost interest in watching me. A soulful Italian song accompanied by piano music pierce through the morning, announcing to all the arrival of the bride. I helplessly watched as Matteo Moretti, the Capo of the Moretti Famiglia, also Valentina's brother, walked her down the aisle where Alessandro waited for her in the front under the arch.

I took a step back, then another the closer Valentina got to Alessandro the further I got away from them, when she finally stopped beside him, her brother kissed her head then placed her hand in Alessandro's much larger one.

Everyone was watching in awe as Alessandro lifted her veil before they both turned to the officiant. She looks utterly beautiful, they are such a perfect couple. I thought begrudgingly. I glanced at Alessandro for the last time, then whirled and walked away. This is the right time, while everyone is here, distracted. I would make my escape.
