Chapter 315: It Was Him

Abigail

Something told me that this crash wasn't an accident, whoever was behind this just expected me to believe his car forward in the middle of the road, alone with no other car involved? This was a message, a warning. It had nothing to do with Rodrigo and all to with me, it is why he is on the brink of death somewhere and I am not. And I know exactly who is responsible for it.

“Let's go.” I muttered while passing by the living room where Nicolas had joined everyone, filling the gun in my hand with bullets before tucking it into the back of my pants and his footsteps followed shortly after.

Another set of footsteps joined him, I guessed that was Capo and I was right. Both of them stood on each side of me as we walked towards the foyer. The closer we got to the front door, the more unbearable the sting in my eyes became and I got a single tear fall out of each eye, causing my lips to slightly quiver. I let out a quiet and shaky breath and their hands found mine. The held them tight, Nicolas caressed the back of my hand with this thing while Capo’s pointing fingers anxiously tapped my knuckles, unable to control himself. As always, Nicolas still managed to stay calm. I envy but pity him, his emotional strength to get through every single obstacle in life with thought and Caitlin is something no one else could do, not consistently anyway. I pity him because I understand how hard that must be, how heavy that responsibility he puts unto himself feels. It is a weight on his shoulders that no one else could take and for that, I feel guilt. While Capo headed over to the driver's seat, Nicolas helped me into the passenger seat, insisting that I sit in the front with Capo beside me. I agreed and we drove out of the driveway, I looked over at the window beside the front door where someone stood, tears fell out of her eyes as she brought her hand up and kissed the tip of her fingers before pressing that against the glass. I did the same jy before the car turned. The ride was silent and eerie, the thumping of my heart overpowering the heavy rainfall surrounding us, it became heavier and heavier as we drove closer to the forest where the cat Rodrigo had used was tracked down by Capo's men.

My head was leaning against the cold window, watching as a drop of water trickled down the glass before disappearing and allowing me to move onto the next one. There wasn't a thought behind my eyes, nor any feeling of emotion in my heart or mind, I couldn't feel a thing and yet somehow it hurt more than it did when I was crying and screaming. Feeling numb rather than sad is the most unpleasant emotion one could feel. It leaves us confused, scattered and sacred. It is unknown, something we can't come to terms with. Humans hate that feeling vec we despise not knowing something. We need to understand in order to be satisfied or else we go insane. When we realized we were on the threshold of becoming numb throughout the period of great pain, our stomach turned in worry because we know after this stage, the worst is to come. This numbness, although frightening and stomach-churning, is peaceful. It ended just as quickly as it came when I felt a hand on my shoulder, shaking me back to reality. I slightly jumped, turning to look at Capo who removed his hand and stared at me. A strong gust of wind and slight rain hit my other side when Nicolas opened the door.

“We are here.” He bunches up a large hoodie in his hands.

“Arms up,” I took my seatbelt off and raised my arms, allowing him to pull it over my head. My eyes avoided what was in front of the car, just a few meters away until he helped me out of the car and guided me a few feet forward.

I looked up through my hood and examined the sight in front of me, stepping out of his hold to get a good look. The closer I got, the more broken parts of the car I had to walk around, pieces of the windows shattered and the windshield wipers broken. The rain stopped the fire that had been burning, so I could get closer than I thought. The car was flipped over, completely totaled and I circled around it until I went to the driver's seat, spotting blood around the dented open door. A crushed cellphone lay inside on the roof of the car where there was blood.

“So much blood," I whispered, my hands shaking at my sides. I fisted them, closed my eyes for a moment and composed myself before getting closer and kneeling to get a better look. I am not here to cry, I am not here to grieve. I am here to find out what happened because I know damn well that Rodrigo, no matter how emotional, wouldn't be so stupid as to get himself killed in a car crash.

I looked around but didn't spot anything, not a clue was left behind to give me something to start off with. Not from Rodrigo or whoever was responsible for this, I stood up to find Nicolas and Capo looking at me like I had gone insane as I circled the car one more time, this time kneeling beside the passenger side where I sorted through the broken glass which looks odd as I found different pieces of metal inside it.

“Hey, Abigail.” Nicolas said as they both approached me.

“You are going to hurt yourself. We will get all this cleaned up to search through at home.”

“No,” I ignored him, shrugging their hands off my shoulders as the beating of my heart quickened with each piece I had found. Most of it was now in my hands but there was one last piece to the puzzle.

“Where the fuck it? Where is it?”

“Where is what, Abigail?” Capo asked, sounding frustrated.

“We need to get you home, you are going to get fucking sick.”

“It is not here, so he probably put it over there.” I murmured to myself and stood up to rush back to the driver's side. I kneeled down again, ignoring the glass digging through my skin as I sorted through it.

“He put it over here, I know he did.”

I froze as I caught the sight of it, tears threatening to spill from my eyes as I picked it up and set it on top of the pile of chains.

“Abigail, seriously, we need to get going before the police get word and show up here.” Nicolas insisted.

I turned towards them, breathing heavily as my lip quivered and hands opened up, revealing the familiar piece of jewellery, a certain collar that hadn't been seen by any of us since all those months ago.

“Oh my goodness,” Nicolas breathed as he looked down at it and stepped closer, followed by Capo who as expected was clueless. Nicolas stared into my eye intensely, his jaw clenching.

“Your collar,” He muttered.

“M..master!” I cried.

“It was him!”
