Chapter 114 114
Chapter 114 114
Maddy's POV
The last fantasy was of us in a living room close to the fire, with his finger banging on me while kissing me as I moaned out loudly and uncontrollably.
Opening my eyes, I felt defeated. Why was I only seeing Jason in my mind? I needed to avoid him and push him away from my thoughts. I got up from the swing, ready to leave the garden, when I saw him.
Jason was coming towards me, a smile playing on his lips as he stared off into the distance. Panicking, I searched for a place to hide, finally finding a corner to crouch in. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn't notice me.
But just when I thought he had passed, I stepped out of my hiding place and... bam! I bumped right into his solid, rock-hard chest. My heart raced, and I could feel my cheeks turning a shade of crimson.
"Hey, Maddy! I didn't expect to find you here," Jason said, his voice laced with amusement. I crossed my arms and glared at him, my short temper rising to the surface.
"Well, I didn't expect to find you either! What are you doing here?" I said, remembering how upset I was at him. He just left without even thanking me for taking care of him in his intoxicated state.
Jason's teasing smile faded, replaced by a more understanding and kind expression. "I came looking for you, actually. We need to talk." I huffed, trying to brush off the impact he had on me.
"Talk about what? I have nothing to say to you." Jason's eyes softened, and he took a step closer.
“Maddy, I've noticed something different between us. And it's not just me. I feel that you've noticed it too. I can't ignore it anymore because... um... I..." I shook my head, my frustration mounting.
"There's nothing different, Jason! You're just imagining things. We're friends, and that's it." He sighed, his voice tinged with disappointment.
"I wish you would just admit what you're feeling, Maddy. It's okay to be scared or confused. But pretending these feelings don't exist won't make them go away. It would only make you hallucinate until you turn rogue."
I clenched my fists, my annoyance growing with each passing second. "I don't want to talk about this anymore, Jason. Just leave me alone! And what are you saying? Turn rogue?”
“Who do you think you are, my mate?" Jason's face fell, hurt evident in his eyes. "Fine, Maddy. If you still want to ignore it, then you can do that all you want. But I won't do that game anymore.”
“Whenever you're ready to face the truth, I'll be waiting." As he walked away, my heart wavered between relief and frustration. Why did he have to be so understanding right now and so kind?
It annoyed me. He is usually annoying, so why would he be nice? Yet a part of me secretly longed for him as I fully understood what he was getting at.
I turned to leave, but suddenly a burning sensation ignited in my throat. It began spreading like wildfire through my entire body. The heat coursed through my veins, and my heart pounded as if trying to escape my chest.
My body was on fire, aching with an intensity I'd never felt before. My claws began to elongate, digging into the soft flesh of my palms. I felt my blood trickling down as I tried to control my transformation, but it was like trying to hold back a tidal wave.
It felt just like shifting for the first time ever on my 18th birthday. Only this time on a whole new level of pain. "Jason," a voice whispered in the back of my mind. My wolf.
She was always there, but she had never been this insistent. This... emotional. It was as if she was desperately trying to reach out to me to make me understand something vital.
The only times she forced her way out was whenever I felt wronged or when she's mad about something. I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. It couldn't be true.
Jason couldn't be my mate. I loved Zac. I had always loved Zac. But my wolf didn't care about Zac. She was yearning for Jason with a desperate need that made my breath hitch.
Another wave of pain hit me, doubling me over. My knees gave out, and I hit the ground hard. "No," I whispered, clutching my chest. This couldn't be happening. It just can't be.
My wolf whimpered inside me, her sorrow and anger echoing in my ears and residing in my heart. I wondered why she was this adamant, but then I remembered that I had rejected Jason, and now... I was faced with a choice.
A choice no werewolf liked to make. Either I denounce him under the full moon or I face the unthinkable—becoming a rogue. “No," I said again, louder this time. There had to be another way. This couldn't be my reality.
But even as I thought it, my wolf howled in my mind, a mournful sound that chilled me to my core. She knew the truth, even if I couldn't face it.
"Jason," she whispered again, her voice full of longing and anger. "Our mate."
"Stop!" I yelled, pressing my hands to my ears as if that could block out the voice in my head. "He's not my mate. Zac is the one I love."
But my words rang hollow, even to me. I knew the truth. I could feel it burning in my throat and in the aching of my heart. I had rejected my mate, and now I was paying the price. I had two options.
Denounce Jason under the full moon, or turn into a rogue. Both options felt like a death sentence. Suddenly I heard someone approach me. Jason was there, extending his hand to help me up. I tried to push him away, but my body betrayed me.
"Get away." I managed to choke out, but my voice was weak and my body was trembling. "Are you okay, Maddy?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
But I couldn't respond. His touch ignited a fire in me, making my body burn with a desire I didn't want to feel. I knew I needed to get away from him, but my knees buckled, and I fell into his arms. "No," I tried to say, but my voice was a mere whisper.
I felt my consciousness slipping away, and after a while of holding on to it, I let it go. Anything was better than feeling this overwhelming lust mixed with this terrible pain.
By the time I woke up, I was back in my room. I looked around, taking a while to remember what had happened. I turned to my side to find Hazelthere, knitting something in the corner. She looked up when she noticed I was awake.
"Maddy, you're finally awake." She said this as she came to my bed. "Are you okay now, Maddy?" she asked, her eyes filled with worry. I was about to tell her I was fine when I noticed something on my wrist.
Black veins twisted around my wrist like a bracelet, or rather a chain. My heart dropped. I knew what it meant. The process of turning rogue has just begun, and the effects are irreversible. We'll have those options though.
I fell back onto the bed with a sigh. "I'm not okay, Hazel," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm far from okay." She put down her knitting on the table and sat by me.
"What is it, Maddy?" she asked, taking my hand in hers. "What's wrong?" I showed her my wrist, the black veins standing out starkly against my pale skin. "I'm turning rogue, Hazel," I said, my voice shaking.
"I rejected Jason. And now... now I'm paying the price." I said it with a small smile. Hazel gasped , her hand flying to her mouth.
"But... but you can't turn rogue. You're too strong for that." I shook my head, tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. "Even the strongest of us can fall, Hazel. It's just the rule of our nature.
The only one that could help now is the moon goddess ' miracle."But you know there's something you can do that will reverse it all," Hazelwhispered, her hand tightening around mine.
"We can't just let this happen." I knew what she was getting at but didn’t want to listen, so I turned away and faced the ceiling, closing my eyes.
"Are you going to denounce Jason?" Hazelasked, her voice hesitant. "I don't have a choice, Hazel," I replied, my voice heavy with resignation. "You're lying, Maddy," she shot back. I opened my eyes and met her.
Her eyes were flashing with determination and anger. "I know you have feelings for Jason. You're just too stubborn to admit it." She was accused.
"I don't..." I began, but Hazel cut me off.
