Childhood Wishes

Childhood Wishes

I was very surprised when we arrived at the amusement park's front gate.

“You…” Tears welled in my eyes as I turned my head to Vagamound.

“What's wrong?” Vagamound moved closer, his hand stretching over my face as he wiped away the tears streaming across my cheeks. “Why are you crying?” His tone was full of disquietude. “If you don't like this place, we can go somewhere else.”

He was ready to pull me away, but I immediately drew him backward.

“No. I never said I don't like this place.” A warm smile appeared on my lips as I stepped closer, wrapping my arms around his waist. His body was warm, and I subconsciously rested my hand against his chest, feeling the rhythmic thump of his heart.

“Actually, this is the first time I have ever come to an amusement park. Because Mom was always busy, she rarely had any time to bring me to the amusement park. Every holiday resumption, my classmates would recount how they spent their holidays doing something fun while I could watch in envy. So, thank you so much, Vagamound. Thank you for fulfilling one of my biggest childhood wishes.”

‘Pat’

I felt a gentle touch on my head, caressing my hair. I drew backward, looking into those beautiful eyes, and then tiptoed, planting my lips on that soft mouth.

Vagamound didn't have the seconds to feel the warm touch on his lips when it was suddenly broken away.

A teasing smile appeared on my lips when I saw the dumbstruck look on his face. “Let's go in.” I turned around, skipping happily as I walked towards the park’s entrance.

Vagamound lifted his hand, touching his lips as if trying to recall the soft sensation that was there before.

“Why are you still standing there? Come on, let's go in.”

The call from the distance jerked him back to reality, and he found himself moving towards the girl.

…

Seeing his dim-witted expression, I almost rolled my eyes at him.

Why is he acting like a greenhorn now? Who was it who was constantly going at it last night after so many rounds?

“There are plenty of people here today? Let's go and try the fun stuff first before we go eat.”

“Alright.”

The two of us walked forward, disappearing into the wave of the crowd.

There were many activities to try at the amusement park. The first one we tried was fairy wheel riding.

It was so fun that I went on to ride it ten times before feeling satisfied. The feeling of the air brushing against your face is just so exciting.

The next thing we tried was the King Kong statue throw. It was so terrifying that I screamed my lungs out.

“Are you okay?” Vagamound held me on my right arm as I got down from the lift.

“I'm fine.” I forced out a smile, which looked out of place from my pale expression. “Let's go see other activities.”

…

“Ah!”

Is it too late to take back my words?

My legs buckled as I stared at the cracked glass under me. Under it was a vast green forest, the giant mountain around it looking so tiny.

The glass bridge was encased with thick glass from all sides, preventing the people inside from being blown away by the wind.

The crack under the glass continued to stretch forward as if it was about to shatter at any moment.

I immediately grabbed onto Vagamound's shirt and buried my face in his embrace.

“It's so scary.”

Although I knew that the cracking glass under the bridge was just an illusion, I still found it very scary.

Who would have thought that I'm really afraid of heights?

Luckily, Vagamound assisted me to the other end of the bridge, and we were able to get down from the mountain using the lift.

“Crybaby.” He teased me as we walked out of the exit door.

“Don't tease me.” I pouted, feeling annoyed that all of my embarassing moment have been witnessed by a certain person.

“I've never seen someone scream as you did today. Who would have thought that my wife is such a scaredy-cat?” He poked my cheek lightly, smiling when he saw my chagrined expression.

“It's because I went there on an empty stomach.” I defended, trying to save my reputation. “Hunger does have a way of bringing the worst in you, you know. I'm so famished. Let's go check the food courts and see what delicacies they have there.” I ran forward, not wanting to continue the previous conversation.
