Chapter 65 So Annoying

The moment our eyes met, my heart skipped a beat. Eric was awake.

He looked a bit out of it, probably because he'd been out cold for so long.

I got lost in his eyes for a second. They were just so mesmerizing, making my heart race.

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my cool.

Jonathan had said it would take a while for Eric to wake up, but here he was, on day one.

I touched his forehead, and after making sure he wasn't burning up, I said, "Don't move. I'll get Jonathan to check on you."

I bolted to Jonathan's room. "Jonathan, Eric's awake! Hurry!"

Jonathan followed me back, circling the bed a few times.

He then raised Eric's arm and even lifted his shirt to examine the black lines.

When he didn't see any, his face got even more serious. "It's only been a day. You didn't start suppressing that curse again, did you? Eric, I told you, you can't do that anymore."

Eric appeared slightly pale and unsettled at Jonathan's words, but he swiftly concealed it. "Do you think I would do something so foolish?"

Jonathan gave us a half-smile, then sneered. "Only you can answer that. If you can't handle it, let's see who looks after your folks. Don't set yourself up for regret once more."

Eric clearly didn't agree. He coldly said, "Give me some of the previous medicine."

Jonathan didn't hesitate and handed him some pills.

I quickly stepped forward with a glass of warm water.

After taking the medicine, Eric's face relaxed a bit.

Jonathan held the empty bottle, looking stiff. "If this happens again, I won't help you."

Eric sat up slowly, looking annoyed. "You're so naggy."

Jonathan's hair stood on end, grabbing Eric's arm with a cold smile. "Hey, don't forget who's got your back. If I'm getting on your nerves, feel free to handle things on your own from now on."

He threw down the bottle and stormed out, slamming the door behind him. The loud bang made me shiver.

Seeing the tension in the room, I realized they had argued. Eric was really sharp-tongued. Even Jonathan couldn't take it anymore. But why did Eric wake up early? Was it for me?

I bit my lip, hesitating before speaking, "Eric, are you okay? Is there anything else bothering you?"

Eric gave me a hard look. "You want me dead or something?"

His retort made me angry too. "Do you have to talk like that? Everyone's worried about you. Jonathan said your health isn't great, and you need to rest for a few more days. Since you woke up early, will it have any repercussions?”

Eric paused, clearly not expecting me to talk back. He said, "I'm fine for now."

Eric added, "When I know how you handle things, if I don't wake up, will I watch my people get deceived?" His resentful gaze fell on me.

I clutched my chest, feeling my heart pound. He really did wake up for me. A sweet feeling washed over me, and I smiled brightly.

Taking advantage of the good vibes, I quickly said, "Actually, I can handle it myself. You should keep resting."

Eric gave me a deep look. "Really? Your way of handling things is to make promises without knowing anything and then get betrayed. Or maybe, recklessly follow others to track your friend to the villa."

He actually recounted everything I did that day.

I stared at him, shocked and a bit scared.

"Weren't you unconscious? How do you know all this?" I asked, wide-eyed.

Eric motioned for me to come closer.

As soon as I walked over, he pulled me to sit on the bed beside him.

His cold fingers effortlessly unbuttoned my clothes, and as I blushed and tried to halt him, he pointed to the mark on my chest. "This isn't just for looks," he said.

The images in my mind vanished instantly, and I saw the mark he pointed to. It was a small snake tattoo. Wasn't this real-time monitoring?

I fell silent but didn't feel guilty. Honestly, I was just solving problems and didn't have any inappropriate contact with them. But Eric's actions made me uncomfortable.

I mustered the courage to resist. "Anyway, I don't like this. I should have my own privacy. Being under constant surveillance by you is not acceptable."

Eric pinched my ear, his tone cold. "Is there anything I don't know about you? Talking about privacy now, does it make sense?"

He scanned me up and down; his attitude made me realize that it was impossible to communicate with him now.

My nose tingled, and tears fell instantly.

Eric swallowed his words, his voice strange. "Why are you crying?"

I thought, 'Why cry? Because I'm aggrieved! Who wants to be monitored all the time, with no freedom at all?'

Seeing me genuinely upset, Eric's body stiffened.

He let go of my ear, frowning and staring at me for a long time.

Finally, he sighed deeply, his tone filled with disappointment and helplessness. "Lately, you seem to cry a lot. I hate seeing you cry. You don't have the decisive look you used to have. Emily, this isn't like you."

Then my tears stopped suddenly. I immediately looked up and stared at Eric.

He said I didn't have the decisive look I used to have, but I didn't even know him.

I frowned, feeling that things were more off than I had imagined.

"What nonsense are you talking about? My mom said I've been a crybaby since I was little. Explain clearly, what are you hiding from me?" I grabbed his arm, getting agitated.

The feeling of being kept in the dark was unbearable. I wanted to know the answer.

Eric looked down in frustration, quickly averting his gaze.

Under my dissatisfied gaze, he raised his hand and knocked me out.

Before I closed my eyes, I couldn't help but curse him.

Unfortunately, I didn't see his livid face.

Just before I completely lost consciousness, I felt someone kiss my forehead a few times, and the voice was exceptionally gentle. "Sleep well. When you wake up, you won't remember anything."

When I woke up again, my neck was sore.

Thinking about Eric's condition, I quickly went downstairs and saw Eric leisurely drinking tea in the living room. I exclaimed, "Eric, why are you up so early?"
