Chapter 60 Human Nature
After hearing what Jonathan said, I felt even worse.
Seeing Eric like this was the last thing I wanted. I'd rather he be his usual snarky self than be this sick and worrying.
"How long will this last, and when will he regain consciousness?" I couldn't help but ask with concern.
Jonathan held up five fingers.
I glanced at the wound on my arm, and my mood hit rock bottom.
I had intended to address the poison issue right away, but now Eric was also in trouble. Why did all the misfortunes always seem to happen to me?
"Are you worried about the poison?" Jonathan asked, looking at me thoughtfully.
I didn't hide it and nodded. "You said this medicine only buys me a little time."
If I couldn't find the antidote, I was still a goner.
"With Eric out cold, your problem might be a bit tricky." Jonathan looked at me with a half-smile, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.
I got his point, but I couldn't help but worry.
"Don't worry. I won't let him risk himself for me in his current state. I'll handle this myself."
Since Roy said he knew about the poison, he must have had a hand in it.
In the worst-case scenario, I would find Willie first to assist in removing the mark on my back. I believed I could manage the poison issue on my own.
"You don't have to be so tough. It's okay to ask him for help; he's willing." Jonathan gave me a deep look and finally shook his head helplessly.
I didn't get his point and didn't think much about it. I just sat quietly in the living room, sipping tea.
"Forget it, this is between you two. I shouldn't say much. Just figure it out yourselves." Jonathan didn't continue and turned to leave.
I drank a few sips of tea. After calming down, I went back to the room.
The black lines on Eric's body were still spreading, but he seemed less uncomfortable after taking the medicine.
The cold sweat on his forehead was decreasing, and his body was shaking less.
I stood quietly by his side, moved the sofa, and watched him silently.
He was undeniably the most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on, but it was a shame about his personality. Observing Eric at that moment, he truly embodied the essence of a pretty boy.
I couldn't help but touch the black lines on his body. At my touch, his body shook violently and then calmed down.
Jonathan said this was a curse and a punishment.
I couldn't imagine what kind of mistake Eric made to deserve such severe punishment.
My thoughts were in disarray. I could only lean against him and doze off briefly.
Before I knew it, it was dawn. I forced my groggy body to get up and wash.
After enduring for two days, I was utterly exhausted. It felt as though if someone were to punch me at that moment, I'd die on the spot.
Willie's message came right after I finished breakfast.
As agreed, Willie would help me remove the mark before noon today.
For convenience, I threw on a backless dress with a jacket over it and rushed to the park for the appointment.
Willie's casual and sunny outfit today caught my eye.
We found a quiet spot to sit, and without a word, he placed the little white snake on my lap.
"Go ahead, let it bite you," he said, pointing to the mark on my back.
The little white snake seemed to understand and crawled into my collar, biting hard at the spot from yesterday.
It hurt even more. I pinched the flesh on my leg to keep from screaming.
When the little white snake left, I could feel the discomfort in my body lessen a bit.
Even without looking in the mirror, I could tell the mark had faded significantly.
After dealing with this, I cautiously looked at Willie. "I've always wanted to ask, who exactly are you?"
He had inexplicably said my mom knew his mom and that we were engaged, but I had no memory of him.
Willie wasn't surprised by the question, as if he had expected it.
"You saw the little white snake can help with your mark. I always carry various herbs and ancient insects, so I'm from Whispering Meadows Village."
When he revealed his fantastical identity, I was a bit stunned.
After processing it, I suddenly thought of those horror scenes from TV shows, "So you're from Whispering Meadows Village, and you know how to use Gu, right? You wouldn't..."
I didn't dare finish the thought because I saw Willie's serious expression.
In my terrified gaze, he leaned in and whispered, "The high priest in the village once told me that if you can't win someone's heart, you could use a Love Gu. Once it's planted, you'll never be able to leave the person who planted it."
The eerie voice and atmosphere made me cover my neck and stand up immediately.
Willie laughed so hard at my reaction that his face turned red. "You're too easy to fool. Even if I'm from Whispering Meadows Village, such methods aren't used lightly. If something goes wrong, it would be a disaster."
He waved his hand, looking innocent.
I resisted the urge to punch his handsome face and forced a smile. "You've helped me a lot. Let me treat you to a meal."
Willie glanced at a message on his phone and became serious, "I'd love to have lunch with my fiancée, but I have something important to do now."
Willie looked even more anxious than I was. Then he turned around and rode off on his bike.
I checked the location and took a cab back to the villa.
Halfway there, I received a message from that psycho Roy.
[Meet at the agreed location tonight, or you'll face dire consequences.]
Looking at the final threatening sentence, I fell silent.
He wasn't wrong. If I didn't detoxify soon, I would die.
I might not even live to see Eric wake up because I may die before him.
I resisted the urge to block and delete Roy.
Eric was suffering, my mark was almost gone, and the only big problem left was the poison.
If I could solve it myself, it would be one less problem when he woke up. In any case, I had to give it a try.
