Chapter 93 Chapter 93
Chapter 93 Chapter 93
Brendan wheezed, trying to grasp any air he could, and failed. He gripped his brother’s wrist and tried to pull him away; his brows furrowed when he realised Hadeon’s strength suddenly exceeded his own.
“Well, well…” Hadeon’s arrogant smile grew tenfold. With ease, he hauled himself up and slammed Brendan against the wall. “Isn’t this something, aye, brother? Me… stronger than the prized son.” He eyed Brendan up and down.
“H-How…?” he coughed.
Loosening his grip slightly, he rolled his eyes. “How do you think?” He turned his head towards the supernatural beings unconscious on the ground. He snorted a laugh when Suki stood in front of them protectively. “Seems like humans don’t just destroy what they don’t understand; they can make wonderful things from it too.”
Snarling, Brendan dug his fingers into Hadeon’s flesh, but he didn’t even flinch. “You stole power from others so you could have your own? You of all people know the imbalance of nature that’ll cause.”
With his free hand, Hadeon mocked him, “Blah, blah, blah, nature – I couldn’t care less about Mother Nature or the Moon Goddess. This is my power and mine alone; it doesn’t stem from a deity, and I don’t serve a false god who doesn’t have equal faith in all her people.” He hissed, “I belong to no one.”
A soft whine emerged from Candace. Her eyes opened as she groaned, “Suki…?”
Suki wiped away her tears, bringing herself back to reality. She knelt beside Candace and hushed her, “Don’t move; you’re too weak.”
She reached out for her hand and gripped it weakly, crying, “I… I can’t feel my magic.”
“She’s still alive? Why is she still alive?” Hadeon spat.
Suki glared at him with fiery daggers.
Hadeon growled deeply and venomously. It was raw and animalistic and most of all, it was terrifying. “You naughty girl,” he purred, turning his body to face Suki but still keeping his brother pinned against the wall. “You stopped the procedure early.”
“Did you think I’d just stand by and watch?”
“No, that’s why I chained you up.” He gripped tighter on Brendan’s throat. His eyes shifted darker. “I suppose I’ll have to teach you a lesson, won’t I?”
She stepped back. Her eyes searched the room for something to protect herself.
Brendan rasped, “Leave her alone!”
“Ah, yes, how could I possibly forget? She’s your precious mate. Maybe we should see how much stronger my power is,” Hadeon taunted. His eyes glowed a bright yellow as he showed off his growing fangs.
“Don’t you fucking touch her,” Brendan snarled. He pushed the situation down the bond to reach for Reynard, sharing the urgency. ‘It’s worse than we thought.’
‘I’m almost there. Don’t provoke him.’
‘Oh, please. I’m gonna kick his ass when I’m out of his grasp.’
‘Brendan,’ Rey hissed down the bond.
‘Fine. Hurry up.’
Hadeon scoffed and threw Brendan across the room, denting a metal table and shattering all the glass beakers it held.
He groaned in pain, pulling out shards of glass that embedded into his skin, one of which impaled him in his stomach. Yanking it out, he knew he’d had to endure some blood loss to allow his healing to kick in.
“Stay back,” Suki screamed as Hadeon approached her, but she didn’t move; she stayed right by the witch and werewolves who needed protection, trying to shield them all with her body.
“Cute,” he huffed a half-laugh and pulled her up and forced her against the wall roughly.
She croaked in pain as her back met the wall.
Hadeon leaned in closer and ingested her scent. “Mmm…” He brushed his lips against her neck and whispered in her ear, “I see why they can’t get enough of you now. You smell irresistible.” He planted a kiss on her neck.
Suki wept, her body trembling.
“Do you think with my power I could break your mate bonds and make you mine?”
“Please… don’t.” Tears blurred her vision as she looked towards Brendan, struggling to stand, but a dark cloud grew behind him and covered half the room, edging towards the door.
“Let’s find out,” he purred and summoned his fangs again and dived to bite her.
She cried, “No!”
A great force tackled Hadeon off of Suki. She slipped to the ground on her rear, but caught sight of the force that brought him down – even in his wolf form, she would be able to tell her mate from a mile away. “Rey…”
His wolf was large, powerful, at least twice the size of a regular wolf, easily strong and big enough to pin down a human such as Hadeon.
He looked at Suki; his eyes softened, happy to see she was alive but saddened that he still couldn’t communicate with her through the bond. ‘Brendan, get her out.’
‘You need help–’
‘Get her out. That’s an order.’
Brendan used his shadow magic to cover his wound and slow down the bleeding, then rushed to Suki. “Come on, let’s go.”
“No, we can’t leave Rey or the others.”
“We’ll get them out, but you need to get somewhere safe. Now shut up before I carry you out of here.” He grabbed her arm and led her towards the door.
Even as a human, Hadeon was managing to hold his own against Rey in his wolf form. Holding his snout to stop him from biting, he then tucked his feet under his stomach and thrusted his legs up, hurling Reynard off of him.
He sped to the door, blocking the way. “Don’t leave yet.” He crossed his arms and chuckled, “You’ll miss the show.”
“Hadeon, brother, this is enough. You’ve made your point; you have power now. You don’t need to hurt Suki.”
Hadeon tilted his head. “Don’t I? She is the love of his life,” he gestured to Reynard. “And he is the son of the man who ruined my life. I think it would be rather fun taking her away from him. I took away his parents after all.”
Reynard snarled and barked at him, charging to stand in front of the two people he cares for.
“Or… I suppose I could kill him and hurt you both.”
Suki grimaced. “You may have gained power, but there’s no way you can beat all of us. We’ve trained our whole lives to master our abilities.”
“So have I, Suki, so have I,” he groaned as he hunched over slightly. His eyes turned entirely black, and his voice deepened to a monstrous rasp. “And now I have the wolf to match my wrath.”
Brendan pulled Suki behind him, and they all froze in place as they watched something demonic grow before them.
