Chapter 92 Chapter 92

Chapter 92 Chapter 92
The doctor ran out of the room, panicking and refusing to look back.

“Brendan…?”

“Suki!” he called out panickedly. “Thank the Goddess we found you.” As he pulled her to sit upright, he noticed her trembling. “What are they doing to you?”

With slow and weak movements, she raised her hand and pointed to the device. “Th-the r-remote.”

He shielded his eyes from the bright flashing lights and grabbed the remote, clicking the button to turn off her electrocution, and then rushed back to her, ripping the shackle off her ankle. “Hold still, I need to get that thing off your neck.”

She whimpered in pain. “No,” she coughed. “S-Stop the… the machine.”

“What?”

“The machine,” she groaned.

He looked up and finally noticed the cages and, more importantly, the innocent supernatural beings trapped within. His eyes rounded as he spoke breathlessly. “What the fuck…”

Suki raised her voice, “Brendan. Turn it off. NOW.”

Hearing the concern in her voice, he rushed over to the computer and typed away frantically. “I need a password,” he called out as he tried everything he could to bypass it.

She pushed herself to her feet and dragged herself to the machine, tugging at the wires and ripping out the little ones.

“Suki, please, help!” Candace and the werewolves cried out, gripping onto the cage bars, trying to hold themselves up. Their strength was deteriorating.

Panic overwhelmed Suki when nothing happened, pulling the wires out. Suki’s eyes shot to a much larger, tube-like wire. This had to be the power source, she thought. Wrapping her arms around it, she pulled with all the might she could muster. “B-Brendan,” she yelped.

He sped over and wrapped his arms around the tube, summoning his shadows to aid and strengthen him. Together, they finally pulled it out of the machine, and both fell to the ground from their force. The sound of electricity in the room vanished.

Suki raised her head. The room was no longer lit by the electricity flickering and shooting around the room. A soft light touched the cages, lighting them up enough for her to see all the supernatural beings knocked out. “No!” She hurried over to them and gripped the bars. “Candace, wake up. CANDACE.” She shook the bars of the other cages. “Hey, wake up, please!”

Brendan summoned his shadows and manipulated them to emulate keys to unlock each cage one by one. He then helped Suki pull them all out.

“Candace?” Suki said, pulling her onto her lap and placing a hand on her cheek. “Wake up.” She pressed two fingers to the side of her neck and sobbed, “She has a pulse, but it’s barely there.”

Placing a hand on the chests of the werewolves as he listened out for their heart rates, Brendan sighed, “Same with all these werewolves. They need medical attention.”

“We have to get them out of here right now.”

“There’s a small team outside helping Reynard; they can help them.”

Suki’s eyes met his, glistening with hopeful tears, knowing Reynard was there too.

Brendan offered her a soft smile and moved her hair out of her face. “When we managed to get away from the fight in Moonstone, we got here as fast as we could and found other werewolves captured while we were looking for you.”

“Where is he now?”

Focusing for a moment down the bond, Brendan spoke calmly, “He’s helping the last wolf out, then he’s going to make his way to us. He stayed behind to help them and made me go ahead to find you, well, because…” he trailed off, taking her hand with the shadow markings and dragging his thumb over the design.

“You could find me,” she whispered. “Thank you.” She looked down at Candace and at all the werewolves. “I don’t have enough strength to help you carry them out.”

“We shouldn’t move them; they’re all too hurt, and we might make them worse if we exert them,” he exhaled.

A sluggish but loud thud came from inside the machine.

“What the hell was that?”

Another thud.

This time it was louder.

Intentional.

She swallowed thickly, staring at the vessel. Her breathing felt shallow as she wondered whether they stopped the machine on time. “We can’t stay here…” she shuddered, pushing herself to her feet and reaching out for Brendan for help.

He grabbed her arm and supported her to stand. “Why? What is in there? What has been going on in here?” A thousand questions stirred in Brendan’s mind, worry growing more and more as he watched his mate’s fearful face.

The door of the chamber flung open, shattering at the hinges and crashing to the ground.

Taking a single step out of the vessel, smoke emitted from Hadeon’s heated body. His breathing was unsteady, and sweat dripped down his body, further defining the sharpness of his muscles.

Fear of the unknown left Suki stunned with silence. Did they stop the machine in time or not?

The world stilled around Brendan, the air escaping his lungs as he faintly whispered, “Hadeon…?”

His knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground.

“Hadeon!” Brendan sped over to him, dropping to his knees and helping him up. “Hadeon? Brother? Wake up. It’s me, Bren.” His head whipped round to meet Suki’s terrified eyes. “What happened? What did they do to him?”

She shook her head slowly, tears streaming down her face. “No…”

“No? No what, Suki?” Brendan yelled in a panic. “What did they do to my brother?”

“They didn’t do anything,” she whispered. “He did this to himself.”

The colour drained from Brendan’s face. “No.” He shook his head.

Tears streamed down Suki’s face as she shook her head. “I’m sorry, Brendan. He told me everything – he’s the reason Reynard’s parents are dead, not you.”

Brendan’s chest heaved in and out. “Rey was suspicious, and the council agreed. It all made sense but… He’s my brother. He was always there for me. He’s always been good.” There was a filter over Brendan’s eyes. He wasn’t seeing the angry wolfless man before him; he was seeing his brother – the person he looked up to growing up, the person who made him into the man he was now.

“Please,” Suki wept. “We have to go.”

“Alright,” he sniffled, choking down his tears and nodding. “Rey’s on his way over with help–” He inhaled sharply as a firm hand clasped around his throat, blocking his airway. He looked down, slowly and struggling, to meet the eyes of the man he no longer recognised.

Though faint, the conceited tone the brothers both shared radiated from Hadeon’s voice. “Hello, brother.”
